Johny Joseph Thone, age 86 of Dardanelle, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at River Valley Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1924 at Jacksonville, FL to the late Henry John and Clyde Pope Thone.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Thone; brothers, Henry and Leslie Thone; step brother, Milton Miller; stepsister, Evelyn Bernard.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Doug Frank, Wanda Jean and Jerry Cross, Johnny Fay and Robert Pesterfield, Kathy and Dennis Mullen; one brother, James; sister, Mary Hunt; a stepbrother, Joe Miller; stepsister, Jackie Weeks; seven grandchildren and six great-grand- children; several nieces, nephews and three special cousins, Carl and Gary Pope and Louise Minemyer.

Leslie Frank "Les" Thone, age 79, of Dardanelle died Monday, March 4, 2002 at his home. He was born October 7, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Henry and Clyde Pope Thone. He was a retired farmer and Director of the Yell County Emergency Services. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U. S. Navy and retired from the U. S. Naval Reserves.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Thone & a stepbrother, Milton Miller.
He was past State Commander of the VFW and a member of the National Legislative Committee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was on the Medal of Honor Commission for the state of Arkansas. He was past chairman of the Yell County election Commission, a member of the Tri-County Water Board, past director of the First Arkansas Valley Bank, a 32nd Degree Mason of Bright Star Lodge 213, and past chairman of the Board of Directors of The Area Agency on Aging for West Central Arkansas, and a member of the Yell County Wildlife Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dardanelle and of the Sr. Men's Sunday School class.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Reba Hickey Thone; three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Mary Thone of Conway, Rick and Harriet Thone of Russellville, Mark and Terry Thone of Dardanelle; brothers, Johnny Thone of Dardanelle, James Thone of Bakersfield, CA; a sister, Mary Thone Hunt of Sacramento, CA; a step-brother, Joe Miller of Dardanelle; stepsisters, Evelyn Bernard of Tulsa, OK, Jackie Weeks of Lady Lake, FL; six grandchildren, Scott, Tammy, Ryan, Brandon, Cory, and Adam Thone; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and three special cousins, Carl and Gary Pope and Louise Minnimyer.
Funeral services will be today, Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. at the First Baptist Church, Dardanelle with Rev. Milton Cowling and Rev. Floyd Ervin officiating. Reba Fay Hickey Thone, age 81, of Dardanelle died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at St. Vincents Medical Infirmary. She was born January 22, 1927 at Carden Bottoms to the late Chester Lee Dude and Vada Harkey Hickey. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Dardanelle VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a 21 Year Board Member of the Yell County Special Services Center.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie Les Thone; brother, William Lee Hickey; step father, Homer Smith.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Mary Thone of Conway, Rick and Harriett Thone of Russellville, Mark and Terry Thone of Dardanelle; grandchildren, Scott Thone, Tammy Thone, Ryan Thone, Brandon Thone, Cory Thone, Adam Thone; great grandchildren, Tanner Thone, Grace Ann Thone both of Conway, Hadlee Thone of Damascus, Rayne Thone of Russellville and sister-in-law, Doris Hickey of Dardanelle.

Wanda Lee Thone, age 75 of Dardanelle, died Monday, September 30, 2002 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was born October 14, 1926 in Liberty Hall Community, Yell County, Arkansas to the late Roger Mashburn and Zola Crow Mashburn Farmer. She was a homemaker and mother, and attended the First Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi Johnson and Virginia Kinser.
Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Johny Thone; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lue and Doug Frank of Little Rock, Jeannie and Jerry Cross of Slaty Crossing, Johnny Fay and Robert Pesterfield of Ozark, Kathy and Dennis Mullen of Russellville; one sister, Reba Alexander of Dardanelle; five brothers, Wade Mashburn, Gilbert Mashburn and Gilroy Mashburn, all of CA; Russell Mashburn of Mt. Faye Eva Thorington, age 86, of Dardanelle died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Dardanelle. She was born September 26, 1916, at Stahl, MO; she was the daughter of the late Harry Floyd and Flavia Irene Keller Ellsworth, and a former employee of Arkansas Tech University.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jess Thorington; a brother and four sisters.
Survivors include a son, George F. Thorington of Gastonia, N. C. a daughter, Judy A. Fulton of Dardanelle; five grandsons, Perry Thorington of Cumberland Furnace, TN, Scott Thorington of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Russell Thorington of Bessemer City, N. C. Jess H. Thorington, age 89, of Dardanelle, AR died October 22, 1998 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born February 19, 1909 in Missouri, a son of the late George Riley and Amelia Elvira Lovejoy Thorington. He was a mechanic and a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Faye E. Ellsworth Thorington; a son, George E. Thorington of Gastonia, NC; a daughter, Judy A. Fulton of Dardanelle; a brother, Cecil Thorington of Powell, WY; two half brothers, Phillip Darner of Empire, CA and Frank Darner of Boone, IA; five grandchildren, Wayne Fulton of Austin, TX, Gracy Fulton of Paris, Perry Thorington of Fort Campbell, KY, Scott Thorington of Oceanside, CA and Russell Thorington of Bessemer City, NC and six great-grandchildren.

I.E. "Gene" Thornhill, 73, of Russellville, AR passed away January 15, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, AR. He was born April 10, 1937, in Mineral Wells, TX. He was a member of the Delaware Baptist Church, was retired from the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George Thornhill and Ruth Bates; and a sister Mary Ruth Thornhill.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Wurst Thornhill, of Russellville; children, Rhonda Fouse of Marietta, TX and Saundra Money of Hico, TX, Sherri Chenowith of Pottsville, Gregg Barnett of Dardanelle; stepmother, Lola Boyd; sister Linda Winsett, both of Ft. CISCO - J. L. (Punk) Thornton, 69, well-known Cisco businessman, died at 9:20 am Thursday in the Graham Hospital after an illness of a month.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Rust - Martin- Rhyne Funeral Home in Cisco. He was born November 7, 1900, in Lingleville and grew up in the Masonic Home in Fort Worth. After graduating from high school, he became a professional baseball player. His career included playing with Omaha in the Western Assn. and Corsicana in the old Texas League. Later he was manager of a Big Spring team in the West Texas League. He was married in 1924 at Corsicana to Melissa Sides. He came to Cisco in the late 1920's as an employee of the Sweetwater Cotton Oil Mill, which owned a gin in Cisco. With the decline of cotton in the area, Thornton bought the gin and converted it into a livestock feed mill. Over the years he developed his mill to one of the largest in West Central Texas and distributed feed under his own brand, Circle T. He was active in the management of business until a heart attack last month. For many years Thornton was among this region's top golfers, playing in numerous area tournaments. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and all Masonic bodies, including Moslah Temple Shrine in Fort Worth and the Dallas Consistory, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Lynnette Wilson Thorp, age 76, of Washington formerly of Danville, AR, died May 15, 2001 of congestive heart failure after a lengthy illness. She was born to Maude and Lynn Wilson, lifetime Danville, AR residents. She attended Danville High School from 1-12 grades, graduating as valedictorian. She joined her old brother, Jack at Ouachita Baptist University, but then transferred to the University of Arkansas, where she edited the Arkansas Traveler college newspaper and was selected for Pi Beta Phi in her junior year. Scholastically she was named to Phi Beta Kappa in her senior year, which placed her in the top 10 of graduating seniors. She came to Washington after graduating in 1945. From 1947-1950 she was a writer, producer and Program Director of radio station WINX while it was owned by the Washington Post and under subsequent owners. From 1953-55, she was President of Story-A-Day, a magazine encouraging parents to read to their children daily. In 1955, she formed Wilson-Wadley Enterprises with close friend and fellow University of Arkansas graduate Ellen Wadley. Among their contracts was assisting CBS News with the launch of "Face the Nation". Through the 1960's and 1970's, she combined family and career, raising two daughters while working from home on consumer, health and education issues. Among her consultant activities were speeches for officials of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and production and writing of "The Doctor Reports, television program on federal medical initiatives.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Matthew Burke Thorp of Washington; daughter Lynn W. Thorp of Mt. Rainier, MD; grandchildren, Nicole Lynn Mariotte and Richard Matthew Mariotte of Mt. Rainier, MD and brother, Jack Wilson of Danville, AR. Her daughter, Maude Lewis Thorp died in 1989. An advocate of organ donation and medical education, she asked that her body be released to Georgetown School of Medicine. Dewey A. Thurman, age 60, of Hot Springs, died Friday, August 7, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born May 24, 1949 in Hot Springs to Dewey Hampton and Dorothy Ellene Kelley Thurman. He retired from the Corps of Engineer after 28 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army. Alan was a hard-working, dedicated man who loved his family deeply through his actions and was loved by all his friends and family in return. He was a special son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great friend, who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gibson Thurman of Hot Springs Village; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Alan and Deidre Thurman of Plainview, Arkansas; one daughter, Staci Lea Thurman of Little Rock; mother, Dorothy Ellene Thurman of Hot Springs; three sisters, Sherry Ann Beavers and husband Lanny of Hot Spring Village, Judy Daniels and husband Herbie and Pam Echols; two brothers, David Thurman and Mike Thurman, all of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Adrianna Nicole Thurman and Christopher Alan Thurman II also of Plainview, Arkansas.

Taylor Breann Thurman, age 25 of Russellville, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was born January 18, 1980 at Chickasha, OK. She was a graduate of Danville High School and attended Arkansas Tech University.
She is preceded by a brother, Shannon Ratliff.

LaRay Lee Tidmore was born on December 17, 1967 in Idabel, the son of Jimmy Lee Tidmore and Carol White. LaRay grew up in the Forest Grove Community where he attended Elementary school. He had many ups and downs in life but had completely turned his life around. He learned a trade in welding and worked in construction. He was living and working in Hereford, Texas at the time of his death.
He was a very big hearted person who tried to help many of his friends and family. He never met a stranger and was a very hard worker. He truly loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Not a day went by that he would not call and talk to his mother. He would always tell her that he loved her and to take care of herself.
He worked as a truck driver in his twenties and during that time he fathered two children and just lately married a very wonderful lady. On Thursday morning, February 22, 2007, an angel came down from heaven to take him to his eternal resting place.
Preceding him in death were his brother, Jimmy Dwain Tidmore in 1994, nephew, Coty Dwain Tidmore in 2005, and grandparents, A. S. Tidmore in 1994 and Juanita Tidmore in 1996, and Mary Nell Jamison in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Suzie, whom he married Sept. 24, 2006; a son, Zachary Lewis Lee George; daughter, Heaven Destinye Renee McCary; step-children, Zackary and Zanna McCune, Ashley and T. J. Beulah Nancy Mary Varnell Tidwell, age 91 years and 12 days, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Oak Manor Nursing & Rehab in Booneville, AR. She was born March 5, 1921 at Paris, AR to Eddie and Lila Forelines Varnell. She was a member of Ranger Free Will Baptist Church. She had been a cook for Danville Public Schools for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fonzo Tidwell of 67 years; 1 son, Lloyd Tidwell; 2 great grandchildren, Rebecca and Jessie Forgay; 4 brothers, Elbert, Delbert, Albert and Frank Varnell; 5 sisters, Olivia Stewart, Nadine Frye, Sudie Mae Cook, Grace Law and Velta Varnell.

Christopher Mark Tidwell, 52, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Baptist Health Center in Conway. He was born April 15, 1965, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, son of William R. and Jimmie Nell Clement Tidwell. He was a loving father, husband, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his mother; 2 brothers, William Rodney Tidwell and David Tidwell; and a sister, Barbara Nell Tidwell Bennett.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Tidwell; 2 sons, William "Will" Tidwell and Zachary Tidwell; an adopted daughter, Justice Lynn Cole; his father; brother, Terry W. Tidwell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

David Lee Tidwell was born November 29, 1879 at Buford, Ga. and died July 31, 1956 at a Little Rock hospital at the age of 76. He was a retired farmer and had lived most of his life in Yell County.

Seven former Yell County Residents Killed by Tornado - Mr. and Mrs. E.U. Tidwell and five children, who formerly lived in the Chalybeate community, were among 35 persons who lost their lives in a tornado that struck Union and Star City communities near Pine Bluff last Sunday.
Bodies of the seven members of the Tidwell family were sent to Danville Tuesday and services were held at the Chalybeate cemetery.

Gary Lynn Tidwell, age 43 of Havana, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at his home, Mr. Tidwell was born February 10, 1959 in Andrews, Texas to the late Pat Wright and Erma Dale Sanders Tidwell. He was a poultry farmer for Wayne Farms in Danville.

Rites Held for Yell's First Returned War DeadFuneral services were conducted at Chalybeate Friday, December 12,1947 for Pvt. Jesse F. A. Tidwell, Yell County's first heroic war dead to be returned from overseas for burial.
Pvt. Tidwell, who was 36 years of age at the time of his death, was born near Danville and lived here until joining the army February 26, 1942. He was reported killed in action June 7, 1944, while crossing the English Channel during the Normandy invasion and was serving in the 533 Ordinance Division. His body was returned from the St. Laurent Cemetery, Baveux, France and arrived in Danville Thursday, December 11, at 3:46 a.m.
Full military rites were performed by the Danville American Legion Post and services were conducted by Rev. John Freeman, pastor of the Danville Baptist Church. Commander Lewis Nelson reported that approximately 45 men were in uniform at the funeral, with 21 actively participating. At the close of the services, Pvt. Tidwell's father, Henry Tidwell, was presented the flag which had draped the casket.

Lloyd Eugene Tidwell, age 68, went to be with our Lord, Thursday, April 26, 2007 at his home in Centerville, AR. He was born January 29, 1939 in Yell County at the community of Riley Creek, near Danville, AR. He was the son of the late Fonzo Elisha Eugene Tidwell and Beulah Nancy Varnell Tidwell of Danville. He was a member o the Centerville Free Will Baptist Church and had a deep passion for stock car racing, riding 4-wheelers, camping and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Pauline Tidwell; his father, Fonzo Tidwell and two grandchildren, Rebekah and Jesse Forgay.
