Tanner, Dona Jane

Mrs. Dona Jane Tanner, age 91, of Casa died Saturday, November 8, 1986 at Yell County Nursing Home at Ola. She was the daughter of the late Seth and Emma Fitch Smith, and was a member of Casa Church of Christ.

Survivors include five sons, Delbert Whitfield of Perryville, Oscar Whitfield, Paul Whitfield and Jack Tanner of North Little Rock, and Justin Tanner of Concord; two daughters, Charlene Womble of Independence, Mo. and Loletta Rainey of Perryville; two brothers, Oscar Smith of California and Elmer Smith of Morrilton; two sisters, Bevie McGhee and Bytha Mizyaka of Arizona; 34 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Casa Church of Christ by Bob Fallon. Burial will be in Fitch Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service. Tanner, Dovie (Hamilton)

Dovie Hamilton Tanner, age 94, of Russellville died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home. She was born October 9, 1920 at Deeberry, AR to the late Felix Hamilton and Nancy Aleen "Brown" Hamilton. She married C.B. Tanner on July 22, 1937 and they lived in Dardanelle. She was a member of the Dardanelle Calvery Baptist Church. She loved sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, C.B. Tanner; step mother, Ollie Cole Hamilton; one brother, Clarence Hamilton Sr.; sisters, Bonnie Daggs, Ola Mae Humphres, Lou Ella Bull and a son-in-law, Bill Bird.

Survivors include nine children, Jean Bird of Lonedell, MO, Terl Tanner and wife Lisa of Auroa, IL, Johnnie Tanner and wife Ann of Boerne, TX, Odis (Chuck) Tanner and wife Sara of Russellville, AR, Steve Tanner and wife Mary of Mexico, MO, Brenda Taylor and husband Pat of Carrollton, MS, Debbie Oswalt and husband Elmer of Daphne, AL, Donna Jenkins and husband David Galveston, TX, Gary Tanner and wife Brenda of Carrollton, MS, one adopted son, Bill Owens and wife Dee of Mission, TX; twenty six grandchildren; fifty one great grand children; four great great grandchildren and one great great grandson due in January 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00A.M., Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Calvery Baptist Church in Dardanelle. Visitation will be held Monday, 5:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Casa Cemetery. Granddaughters will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Tanner, James

James Tanner, age 79, of Casa, AR died Friday, November 17, 2000 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, AR. He was born April 2, 1921 in Neely, AR to the late Jack and Annie Nelson Tanner. He was a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the Casa Baptist Church and a retired custodian for the Perry-Casa Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by, his wife, Lena Rainey Tanner; three brothers, George, John and James McGhee and a sister, Ann Cope.

Survivors include, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Peggy Tanner of Casa, AR and Jim and Vicki Tanner of No. Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Ruth Storment of Ola, AR and Lillie Mae Riley of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Tanner, Michelle

Michelle Tanner, age 20, of Ola, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007. She was the daughter of Andy and Tami Tanner of Ola, Michelle was a student and of the Baptist faith.

Other than her parents, survivors include her brother, Aaron Tanner of Ola; paternal grandparents, Jackie and Peggy Tanner of Clinton; great-grand-, mother, Virginia Cruse of Casa; maternal grandparents, Tommy and Lexy Edwards of Adona; and grandmother, Pam Byrd of Perryville.

Lois Aliene Shade Taphorn passed away April 13th, 2006 in Carlyle, IL. She was born in Havana, AR to Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Shade and graduated from school in Havana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Taphorn; one son, Paul; two sisters, Virvian Apple and Virginia Meuler and one brother, Lloyd Lee Shade.

She is survived by four daughters, Pat Taphorn and Anna Marie both of Denver, CO, Stedon Kohrman and Virginia Huesko both of Carlyle, IL; two sisters, Mary Pike of Long Beach, CA, Jacque Briggs of Russellville, AR; one brother, Lytle Shade of Oxnard, CA; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews and friends. Taphorn, Paul Barnard

Paul Barnard Taphorn, age 54, of Beckmeyer, Ill passed away on February 25, 2002 in a Florida Hospital after 9 series of heart attacks from which he failed to recover. He was in Florida to visit his son and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, and infant sister and grandparents, L. J. and Mrs. Shade, formerly of Havana.

Survivors include his mother, Aileen Shade Taphorn of Beckmeyer, formerly of Havana, AR; one son, one grandson and four sisters, Helen, Virginia, Patricia and Ann Marie. C. E. "Gene" Tapp, age 90, a resident of Alma and formerly of Russellville, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home. He was born June 7, 1923, at Havana to Millard Fillmore and Mollie Davis Tapp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Johnnie Tapp; a son, Ronald Dean Tapp; two brothers; and one sister. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII and Korea.

Tapp, James Edwin, Sr.

James Edwin Tapp, Sr., of Del City, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord on Monday, October 26, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on September 8, 1920 in Cedar Creek West, Arkansas to Millard Fillmore and Mollie (Davis) Tapp. James was the oldest son in a family of eight children, and grew up in a farming area in Arkansas. He attended school at Havana, Arkansas and graduated in 1939. He also taught school for a year. At a party in 1942, James went for a walk with the young lady that became the love of his life. He married Gracie Estelle Walker on August 22, 1942. He and Gracie were together for 67 years.

James served with honor in the Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Besides several locations in the U. S., he served tours in North Africa, France, Italy, Germany and South Korea during his Army career. He retired from the Army after 20 years of service to his country as a Sergeant Major in 1962. After retiring from the Army, James joined the workforce of Tinker Air Force Base as a civil service employee and worked his way up to a supervisory position before retiring for the second time in 1982. For 21 years, James was a member of the Del View Baptist Church in Del City, Oklahoma. Members of the Del View Baptist Church were like a second family to James, and he was very active in the church, serving faithfully as Sunday school teacher, usher, and a member of the Prime Timers group. Church members joined other friends and family in competing with James at a variety of games. He was a great competitor and loved playing a variety of games. James often won, but whether he won or lost, he made you feel like he had won. James was an intelligent, talented, hardworking man who supported his friends and family. A wonderful sense of humor, and a very special love and concern for others made James unique. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family. James was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Mollie; sister Mildred Karnes and brother, Pete.

He is survived by his sons, James Tapp, Jr. and wife Virginia of Del City, OK. and Charles Tapp and wife Janie of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kimberly Taylor and family of Havana, AR.; James Tapp III and family of Pampa, TX.; Jason Tapp and family of Oklahoma City, OK.; Stephanie Tapp of San Joes, CA., John Paul Tapp and family of Gonzalez, LA., and Charles Tapp and family of Oklahoma City, OK., and nine great-grandchildren.

Johnnie M. Chappell Tapp, age 84, a resident of Russellville, died Monday, September 7, 2009, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born December 23, 1924, at Havana to James Henry and Ruth Robbins Chappell.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Dean Tapp; three borthers; and a sister.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Gene Tapp of Russellville; a son, Eugene Tapp of Russellville; a daughter-in-law; four sisters; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Loyce Lawrence Tapp, age 83, of Havana passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born April 11, 1930 in Waveland, AR. to the late Millard Filmore and Mollie Davis Tapp. He was a Navy Korea Veteran and a bookkeeper for Petit Jean Poultry. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gene, Pete, and James Tapp; sister, Mildred Karnes; great-grandson, Noah Ollin Terrell.

Oda Lee Tapp age 81 of Havana passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. She was born April 13, 1931 in Amity, AR. to the late William Marion & Nora Belle Avirett Lowery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Gloria Lee Tapp and brother J.W. Lowery.

She was preceded in death by, her husband, Carl Tarkington; five sons, Carl Tarkington, Jr. James Tarkington, William Tarkington, Coy Tarkington and Timmy Tarkington; a brother, Chesley Millard; a grandson, Brian Tarkington and a great-granddaughter, Cassie Moore.

Tarkinton, Jearldean (Potter)

Jearldean Tarkinton passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7th, 2018 with her children and sister, Nadean Jones, at her side. Jearldean was born July 30th, 1947 in Aly, Arkansas to Otto and Verl Potter. She was a wonderful mother to her children, Danny & Christina, and loving wife to her husband, Elvin, of 31 years before he passed in 2002. They loved living in the country and enjoyed fishing and camping together with family and friends. She was very close to her mother and father, whom she lived next to and looked after until they passed. Quiet, unassuming and down-to-earth, she never wanted to be the center of attention. She was a compassionate, caring and empathetic person who would do whatever she could to help her family and friends. What you saw is what you got with her - no pretenses. She was genuine. Jearldean spent 40+ years of her life working at Munro & Company (Mt. Ida Footwear) where she loved her job and co-workers. They were her 2nd family.

Jearldean is survived by her children Danny Tarkinton of Mt. Ida; Christina Watson and her husband Randy of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren - Kinsey Tarkinton of Bella Vista, AR; Kirsten and Christopher Watson of DeRidder, LA; siblings - Vanita Spears, Nadean Jones, and Carney Potter; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family members - Janice Potter (cousin) and Sue Lowe (aunt).

She was preceded in death by her parents Otto & Verl Potter and siblings - Doris Clemmons, Jerry Whitworth and James Potter. The family wishes to recognize the outstanding care and support that Jearldean received from the Montgomery County Nursing Home staff during her battle with lung cancer.

Flora Ophelia Pemberton Manes Tarlton June 13, 1921 - September 11, 2006. Flora Ophelia Pemberton Manes Tarlton, age 85, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Gould, died Monday. She was born June 13, 1921, in Yell County, a daughter of the late Port Pemberton and Myrtle Belle Yancy Pemberton. She was a member of the Garrett Bridge Assembly of God. She was a retired seamstress for Bassett.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Tarlton; five sons, Clyde Curt, Garland Manes and three infant sons; one sister, Margaret Jones; one grandchild; and two great grandchildren.

Tate, Betty Cobb

Betty Cobb Tate, age 73 of Danville, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville. She was born February 22, 1935 in Magazine to the late Walter and Eula Mae Vinzant. She was a retired clerk for Western Auto in Danville and a member of the Wilson Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Jake Cobb.

Survivors include her husband of thirty years, Rupert Tate; three sons, Randy Cobb of Roland, Oklahoma, Mike Cobb of Pottsville and Mitch Tate of Danville; two daughters, J. W. Vinzant of Alabama; three sisters, Margie Kellar of Belleville, Janie Robb of New Mexico and Jerrie Wells of Texas; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, June 3 at the Wilson Freewill Baptist Church in Belleville with Brother Jeff Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Earl Ladd cemetery. Tate, Charles Rex

Charles Rex Tate, age 89, of Booneville, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at his home. He was born February 22, 1928, in Blair, Oklahoma to the late Charles and Ina Powers Tate. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired professional truck driver, and owner operator for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and mother of his children Marilyn; brother, John Tate.

Survivors include his wife Twilah June; daughters, Stacie Roddy (Wally) of Montana, Sharlene "Bubba" Woodard (Mike) of Danville, step son, Dr. Lance Phillips (Dr. Ann Roland) of Missouri; sister, Betty Parrish of Dardanelle; brother, Fred Tate (Valera) of Conway; grandchildren; Brittany Blankenship (Todd), Zach Tate (Krista), Callie Kimball (Daniel); step grandchildren, Elaine Phillips and Dr. Kevin Phillips (Sarah); six great grandchildren; A special great nephew, Rock Joseph Burrows and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the Cornwell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Courtney officiating. Tate, James Eldon

James Eldon, 2 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Tate, Moss Creek, died at the home of his Uncle Chas Tate, Monday, August 10, after a few hours illness.

He is survived by his parents, a sister Lavoy, and grandparents.

Tate, John Thomas "J.T."

John Thomas "J.T." Tate, age 73, of Russellville, AR died Friday, July 4, 2003 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was a son of the late Charles Henry and Ina Powers Tate and was born October 17, 1929 at Blair, OK. He was retired from the U. S. Navy as a chief petty officer, serving 20 years, during which he was a member of Operation Deep Freeze in 1967, which built McMurdo Base in Antarctica. He retired from Bechtel Corporation after 18 years of service both overseas and at Arkansas Nuclear One. He was a Baptist, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 3141 in Dardanelle, AR.

He is survived by his wife, Anita J. Tate; a step-son, Eric Pinkston of Arcadia, CA; a step-daughter, Bobbie Coleman of Tulsa, OK; two brothers, Charles Rex Tate of Booneville, AR and Fred Lynn Tate of Conway; a sister, Betty Sue Parrish of Dardanelle and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was July 7, 2003 at Shin Chapel in Russellville, officiated by Rev. Todd Davis. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park by Shinn Funeral Service. Johnnie L. Tate, age 73 of Waldron, AR died Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at the Waldron Hospital. He was a retired painter and operated the Lion Station in Waldron for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waldron.

He is survived by two daughters, Johnnie Sue Brown of Havana and Ann Hunt of Waldron, AR; three sons, Gary Tate of Waldron, Larry Tate of Havana and Bill Tate of Panama, OK; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Tate, Mary A.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary A. Tate, 76, who died at 10:40 a. m. Sunday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Walter Padgett were held Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Danville Baptist Church. Officiating at the last rites were Rev. Jack Hull, pastor. Burial was in Danville Cemetery beside her husband, Thomas Tate, who died in May, 1945. Mrs. Tate was born February 14, 1876 in Scott County and had been a lifelong resident of Arkansas. Before moving to Perry County in 1954, she had resided in Rover, Danville, Plainview, Belleville and various other Yell county communities. She had also lived in Hot Springs and Benton.

Besides Mrs. Padgett, she is survived by five other daughters, Mrs. Ida Albright, Oakland, Calif, Mrs. Martha Willard, Harlingen, Tex. Mrs. Susan Brown, Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Katherine Elmer, New Orleans, La. and Mrs. Betty Ann Chronister, Cleveland, Ohio; three sons, Jacob Carey of Seattle, Wash., John R of Little Rock and Richard of San Bernardino, Calif, 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Tatum, Buford

Mr. Buford Tatum, aged 54 years, died suddenly at his home in Danville Sunday afternoon, death being due to a heart attack. He is survived his wife; one daughter, Miss Katherine Tatum, who is a student in Knoxville, Tenn.; and four sons, B. L. Tatum, a student in Arkansas Tech, Russellville, and William, Walker and Tommy Tatum, of the home. Mr. Tatum, a veteran of World War I, was a respected and a useful citizen. He served two terms as Circuit Clerk of Yell County, and during his tenure of office established an outstanding record for efficiency and attention to duty. Millard "Al" Tatum, age 77 of Havana, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith. He was born September 9, 1931 in Stillwell, Oklahoma to the late Luke and Beulah Smith Tatum. He was a U. S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War and was a retired heavy equipment operator.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Billie Jo Tatum, one son, Donnie Ray Tatum, and one sister, Viola Divine.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Catlett and Robin Tatum both of Belleville, Terresa and Kenneth Purcell, and Jeannie and Mike Purcell all of Eastanollee, GA; three sons, Steve Tatum of Denver, CO, Dustin Tatum of Havana, Bobby Tatum of Lawrence, KS; one brother, Pete Tatum of Houma, LA; one sister, Juanitta Hendrix of Eugene, OR; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
