Infant Betty Stroud - 2 lb. 4 oz. Infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Stroud Jr. died six and one-half hours after birth at the Paris hospital Sunday, November26.
Services were held at Mt Salem Monday by Rev. Fritz E. Goodbar.

James Wesley" Stroud, Jr. age 84 of Danville, died Thursday, February 7, 2002 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born in Scott County, Arkansas on April 1, 1917 to the late James Wesley and Mary Evelyn Cockrall Stroud Sr. He was a retired farmer, a WWII Army Veteran, a Deacon and a member of the Ranger Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Myrtle Elizabeth Stroud and two brothers, Robert C. Stroud, and John David Stroud.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred S. Hancock of Danville, and Evelyn S. Clifton of Memphis, Tennessee. Also several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 9, 2002 at 2:00 p. m. at the Ranger Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Newton and Reverend Henry Martin officiating. Burial was in Upper Spring Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Douglas, James Hancock, Michael Clifton, Michael Stroud, Charles Carr, and Corkey McConnell. John David Stroud, age 77, of Tulsa, OK passed away, Wednesday, September 1, 1999. He was born on October 9, 1921 in Huntington, AR to James Wesley and Mary Evelyn Stroud. He was a route salesman for the Wonder Bread Co. for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Rebecca Stroud and a brother, Robert Stroud.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of the home; two daughters, Judy Evans of Tulsa, OK and Becky Hubbard of Chelsea, OK; three stepdaughters, Lynda Little of Broken Arrow, OK, Martha Cox of Dallas, TX and Joy Lee Haught of Nowata, OK and a step-son, Tim Hooper of Austin, TX; two sisters, Mildred Hancock of Danville, AR and Evelyn Clifton of Memphis, TN; one brother, James Wesley Stroud Jr. of Danville, AR; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth Stroud, age 77, of Belleville, AR, died Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at St. Edwards Hospital in Ft. Smith, AR. She was born July 10, 1922 on Mt. Magazine, AR to the late Monroe and Elizabeth Bregger Hignight. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ranger Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wesley Stroud; one brother, Claude Hignight of Shreveport, LA; two nieces, Kathy Pulfoy of Los Angeles, CA and Claudia Ann Mortin of Shreveport, LA.

Ted Lewis Stroud, 58, formerly of Morrilton, entered into eternal rest on July 11, 2010 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 19, 1951 to Wylie and Minnie Stroud in Morrilton, AR.
He is preceded in death by his parents; half brothers, Audie and Dale Stroud; half sister, Marie Branch.
He is survived by his loving family wife, Brenda Stroud; son, Aaron Stroud; daughter, Alisha Stroud; grandson, Aaron Michael Stroud; brother, Max Stroud; sister, Patricia Kirtley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Col. Henry Stroupe, 82, for many years one of the picturesque figures of Arkansas, born in Atlanta, Ga., for many years a resident of Paris died last week in a hospital at Siloam Springs after an illness of about a year. The body was taken to Ft.

Miss Bessie May Struthers, age 49, of Belleville, died Wednesday, October 8, 1986 at Mitchell Nursing Home of Danville. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the daughter of the late Lee and Bertha Jones Struthers.
She is survived by four sisters, Jessie Moore of Belleville, Beulah Pruitt and Marieta Baragona of Wichita, Kansas, and Lela Grimes of Houston, TX, one brother, Allen Struthers of Collins, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Friday, October 10 at Cornwell Chapel at Dardanelle with Grover Martin officiating. Interment was in Blue Mountain Cemetery at Blue Mountain, AR.

Donnagean Dutton Stubbs, born December 27, 1919, widow of James L. Stubbs and a native of Missouri, passed from this life Thursday. March 25, 2010.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lowell, Milton and John Dutton; one grandson, Matthew Hicks.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Bates; sister-in-law, Virginia Stubbs of Ft. Smith; three grandchildren, Bridgette, Reagon, and Heath Hicks; five great-grandchildren, Nick, Cole, Christina, Haden and Haley; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

James Lee Stubbs, age 87, of Dardanelle, AR died Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at Dardanelle Hospital. He was born June 11, 1913 in Dardanelle, AR, the son of the late James Dalton and Mary Ellen Hames Stubbs. He was an Air Force Veteran of WWII, owner of Dardanelle Insurance Agency, a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Dardanelle First Baptist Church, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a Yell County Justice of the Peace for over 25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Donnagean Dutton Stubbs; a daughter, Patricia Bates of Oklahoma City, OK; a nephew, Jack Stubbs, Jr. of Dallas, TX; a niece, Ellen Stubbs, Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Heath Hicks, Columbus, OH, Reagon Hicks, Tulsa, OK and Bridgette Hicks of Hollywood Beach, FL; five great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Virginia Stubbs of Ft. Mr. G. W. Sturdavant died here this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Haney. He was the oldest man in this section, perhaps in Yell County, being 93 years, one month and 14 days of age.
The remains were conveyed to Chickalah Village and interred in the family burial ground. Mr.
Sturdivant is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Haney, of Havana, and Mrs. Mollie Hames, of Ranger, and two sons, Dr. John Sturdavant, of Oklahoma, and Thos. V. Sturdavant, of Sulphur Springs. Mr. Sturdavant was an upright man and a splendid citizen, and the entire County mourns his loss. Bob Sturdivant, 70, of OKC, passed away July 11, 1996. Born May 16, 1926 in Belleville, Ark. to Elbert and Ethel Sturdivant. Bob was a retired real estate agent and a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, serving in both the Army & the Air Force. He graduated from OSU with an Agronomy degree where he was listed on the Deans Honor Roll. He was a member of the DAV & VFW.

Elbert E. "Pete" Sturdivant, of Oklahoma City, passed away October 24, 1991, in Tulsa, at the age of 86, following a brief illness. Pete was born February 2, 1905 in Yell County, AR, the son of Thomas V. and Elvia Sturdivant. He was a longtime Tinker Air Force Base employee. Pete was active in Capitol Hill baseball and softball until 1986. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; 2 sons, Bobby Joe and Tom, both of OKC; grandchildren, Tom, Paul, David and Cindy Sturdivant; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Maude and Bessie Sturdivant of Dardanelle, AR.
Pete was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Claudia.

Mrs. Elvie Sturdivant, 82, wife of T. V. Sturdivant, died at the family home here Friday night, following an illness of 15 months, which rendered her speechless and bedfast since that time. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include, her husband, three sons, C. C. and H. H. Sturdivant of Kansas City; and E. E. of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Mrs. Seth Murdock, and Mrs. Bessie Green, both of Dardahelle; five brothers, I. L. George, Muskogee; Dr. L. J. George, Stewart, Okla.; Tom George, Stewart; Albert George, Tyler, Texas and Hiram George, Corpus Christy, Texas; one sister, Mrs. L. W. Thompson, Tyler, Texas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Ethel Sturdivant went to be with the Lord on December 1, 1995 in Oklahoma City at the age of 90. She was born March 18, 1905 in Bellville, Ar. on December 5, 1924. She married Pete Sturdivant. She came to Oklahoma in 1930 from Arkansas. Ethel was a longtime practical nurse and also a member of the Oakcrest Church of Christ. The Christmas Season was her favorite time of the year.
She was preceded in death by her husband and granddaughter, Claudia.
Ethel is survived by her sons, Bobby Joe and Tom, both of OKC, her grandchildren, Tom, Paul, David, Cindy, Jeff, Amy and 12 great grandchildren.

Tom Sturdivant, who pitched the New York Yankees to victory in Game 4 of the 1956 World Series on the day before Don Larsen's famed perfect game, died Saturday in his native Oklahoma City. He was 78. Sturdivant threw a complete game in a 6-2 win against the Brooklyn Dodgers on October 7, 1956, to even the best-of-seven series at 2-2 and set the stage for the only perfect game in World Series history. Whitey Ford, Sturdivant, Larsen, Bob Turley and Johnny Kucks threw five straight complete games in that series - a feat that hasn't been matched. Sturdivant was a member of the Yankees teams that played in the World Series in three straight years, beginning in 1955. He went 16-8 in 1956 and 16-6 in 1957, when he led the American League in won-lost percentage. He hurt his arm the following year and spent the rest of his career pitching with six different teams - Kansas City, Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh, Detroit and the New York Mets. Thomas Virgil Sturdivant II, 78, passed away on February 28, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born April 28, 1930 in Gordon, Kansas to Pete and Ethel (Moudy) Sturdivant. Tom was raised in Oklahoma City and attended Capitol Hill High School, where he said, "We worked at winning?" After high school he went to the minors as a pitcher and made steady progress on the mound before donning the pinstripes. Tom, nicknamed "Snake" for his excellent curveball, debuted on April 14, 1955 for the New York Yankees, where he played in the World Series in 1956 and 1957. During his career, he played with the Kansas City Athletics, the Boston Red Sox, the Washington Senators, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Detroit Tigers, and the New York Mets. After his career in baseball, Tom worked as a freight manager for several trucking companies. Later he joined the Board of Directors for Metro Tech in Oklahoma City and for Integris Hospice of Oklahoma County. He loved playing golf and visiting with friends at Gerald's Doughnut Shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Tommy and Paul; and brother, Bob Sturdivant.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; son; Jeff Cohlmia; daughter, Amy Greco and husband Forest; grandchildren, Tommy Sturdivant, IV, Nathan Sturdivant, Jeremey Sturdivant, Joe Sturdivant, Marshall Sturdivant, Thomas Reynolds, and Joshua Reynolds.

Tom Sturdivant III, 52, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2006 in Carrollton, Texas. He was born June 6, 1953 in Birmingham, AL to Thomas and Paula (Frech) Sturdivant, II. Tom was in sales for more than 30 years. His father played for the NY Yankees, so naturally Tom grew to love baseball. He was an actor in the series "The Young Riders" and also a golf professional.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pat Smylie; his parents, Thomas Sturdivant and wife Elaine and Paula "Reba" Frech and husband Carl; four sons, Tommy Sturdivant, IV of Norman, OK, Nathan Sturdivant of OKC, Jeremy Sturdivant of Moore, OK, and Steve Smylie of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Dominique Disiere of Houston, TX, Kathy Stephenson and husband Greg of Keller, TX, and Kristin Taylor and husband Ron of Carrollton, TX; three grandchildren, Jayda Disiere, Travis Stephenson, Sydnie Taylor; sister-in-law, Mary Sturdivant; nephews, Marshall Sturdivant and Joe Sturdivant; nieces, Kelly Corrigan and husband Mike and Kristy Campbell and husband Matt; and a host of other family and friends.

Miss Vera Lee Sturdivant, aged 22 years, 9 months, and four days, who was instantly killed in an automobile wreck Sunday morning, November 9, 1941, on highway 22 near the city limits, was laid to rest in the Chickalah Cemetery Monday afternoon. Rev. George Housley, Pastor of the Church of Christ, conducted the services. Miss Sturdivant was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sturdivant, of the Sulphur Springs community. She was born February 5, 1919. She finished high school in Dardanelle in 1938. The following year she completed a business course in Oklahoma City, Okla. Returning to Dardanelle in the fall of 1939, she was employed at Camp Travis Cafe for several months. At the time of her death she was employed at the White Castle Cafe in Dardanelle, having been with this firm for over a year. The passing of this fine Christian, young lady is indeed tragic and will be a sad shock to all who knew her. Possessed of a lovely character, a cheery smile and friendliness for everyone she numbered her friends by her acquaintances. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent and brought by her host of friends and relatives who mourn her passing.
Surviving besides the parents are two sisters, Mrs. Seth Murdock and Mrs. Hazel Green, of Dardanelle; three brothers, Claude C. Sturdivant, Kansas City, Mo., H. H. Over-turning of an automobile occupied by young people at the junction of North Second St. and highway 12, about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, resulted in the almost instant death of one, death of another an hour later, and injury to three others, two of whom were sent to the Russellville hospital. Miss Vera Lee Sturdivant, 22, died almost immediately. Pvt. Denver Mesienheimer, 24, Camp Robinson, resident of Russellville, reported to have been driving the car, died after he was taken to the Russellville hospital. The injured were Vernon Anderson, 30, Russellville, in the hospital there with a compound fracture of one leg and possible internal injuries. Miss Ruby Hodges, 16, Dardanelle, who received a scalp wound and bruises, believed not serious. The five in the ear were returning to Dardanelle after witnessing a picture preview at Russellville theater. Pvt. Mesienheimer was the son of D.M. Mesienhiemer of the District Farm Security Administration. He was a member of the 35th Engineers stationed at Camp Robinson. Logan L. Sturgis, Jr. 79 of Havana, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 20, 1927 to Logan L. and Lonnie Florence Surber Sturgis. He served in the United States Army, was a retired nurse anesthetist, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. A member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist, a former member of the Danville Lions Club and the Western Yell County Ruritan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Louis Sturgis, and a sister Frances Ann Duett.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carol Potter Sturgis; three sons, Leslie Sturgis of Hillsboro, OR, Leland Rex Sturgis of Lyman, SC and Peter Allyn Sturgis of Varaboo, WI; and grandchildren.

DARDANELLE - Winfred Lyle Sturtevant, former editor and publisher of the Dardanelle Post Dispatch, died Thursday, February 13, 1986 at his home on Bay Ridge Drive near Dardanelle. Sturtevant was born in July 1, 1907, in Garden City, Kan. He graduated from high school in Garden City. He attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. and graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D. C. He was a five-sport college letterman football, baseball, track, basketball and tennis. He excelled in football and track and after graduation he played football three seasons for what is now the Washington Redskins. He did post-graduate studies at Eastern Law School and American University in Washington, D. C. He was employed for 15 years as district manager and program director with the Rural Electrification Administration in Washington and in Alabama. He played a major role in introducing the REA program traveling around the country showing farm families the benefits of electricity. For nine years he was mid-west district sales manager for Kaiser Aluminum in Kansas City and Chicago. He and his wife, Alice E. "Suzie, bought the Dardanelle Post Dispatch in 1960. They owned and operated the newspaper until 1976, when it was sold to family members. He owned the Grant City, Mo. Times Tribune from 1964 until 1981. While at Dardanelle he was a co-founder of KCAB Radio Station and helped form the Bay. Ridge Boat and Golf Club. He served terms on the board of the Dardanelle Chamber of Commerce and the Dardanelle Rotary Club. He was the first recipient of the Chamber's Pillar of Progress Award in 1980. In 1978, after his retirement, he lent his services to the city of Dardanelle as administrative assistant to Mayor Dana Merritt. He had charge of application for and administration of federal grants for the city including the city's downtown park, in which he took a particular interest.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James H, Sturtevant of Dardanelle; two daughters, Jane S. Freeman and Judith L. Stocks, both of Dardanelle, and seven grandchildren, Linda J. Freeman of Dallas, Lt. James D. Freeman, of the U. S. Army in Alabama, Joey Stocks of Little Rock, Jill Stocks of Dardanelle, Ann, Kelly and Michael Sturtevant of Dardanelle.
Funeral will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at Cornwell Chapel. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery ay Cornwell Funeral Service. November 24, 1918 - September 23, 2014 Clara Eunice Stutsman, 95, of Kountze, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014. She was born on November 24, 1918, in Gravelly, Arkansas, to Emily Ann May Smallwood and Sam Smallwood. Eunice started S.C.A.T. (Senior Citizens All Together), which was her life. She enjoyed cooking, jelly making, and baking cakes, but mostly doing for everyone else.
Survivors include her brother, Otis Smallwood of Dumas, Arkansas; and special nieces and nephews, Violet Brown and her husband, Roy Gene; David Smallwood and his wife, Missy; Leighann Lawrence and her husband, Eric; and Beverly Williamson, all of Kountze; and Betty and her husband, Bill Perdue, of Iowa, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her parents; fifteen brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of Mrs. Stutsman's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.

Margaret LeAnna Stutzman, infant daughter of Denver and Ada Stutzman, was born September 30, 2012 and lived 3 and one half days. She quietly left to be with Jesus early Thursday morning, October 4, 2012. She is loved and missed by her parents, two brothers, Keith Lamar and Micah Denver and one sister, Heidi Lois all of the home. Grandparents, Daniel and Lois Stutzman, and Dennis and LeAnna Miller, all of Belleville. AR; great-grandparents, Jerry and Irene Stutzman, Carl and Martha Brenneman, and Mrs. Erma Miller; nine uncles, eight aunts and 31 cousins.

Alfred Roscoe Sugg, aged 67, died in Ada, Okla. He had lived in Ada since 1925.

Ernestine Sugg, 98, of Sheridan passed away March 23, 2006. She was a member of Levy United Methodist Church and a retired house parent for the Arkansas School for the Deaf.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Sugg and two sons, Carroll and Kenneth Sugg.

Hoyt Sugg, age 65, of Danville, formerly of Dardanelle, died Thursday morning, October 23, 1980 at the Yell County Hospital. He was a native of the Chickalah Community and the son of the late P. M. and Percilla Gates Sugg.
Survivors include one brother, Glenn Sugg of Pine Bluff and one sister, Mrs. Rex Burris of McGehee, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lano Denton Sugg, 72, of Ada, Okla., died December 23 in Valley View Hospital at Ada. She was the widow of the late Dr. A.R. Sugg, a native of Moss Creek community near Danville and a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College and formerly taught in Yell County schools.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Ramsey of Ada and Mrs. Joy Spanberry of San Antonio, Tex.; one son, Alfred Denton Sugg of Oxford, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Lundia A. Sugg, age 85, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roxy Dooly, Belleville, Thursday, October 27, 1949.
She was the widow of the late J. S. Sugg and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dooly of Belleville and Mrs. Thedia Joiner of Checotah, Oklahoma; and a son, L. M. Sugg, Little Rock.

Priest M. Sugg, aged 88, a life long resident of Yell County, died Sunday in a Danville nursing home. He was born in Chickalah, was a retired farmer and a Baptist.

Vernon V Sugg, of St. Petersburg, Fla, died in St. Anthony's Hospital in that city on April 17, 1956 from cancer. Mr. Sugg was born and raised in Dardanelle.
