Clayton Carroll Spears, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arl Spears of Dumas, drowned Saturday, June 17, in the Saline River near Rison. Spears was wading in about three feet of water while five companions were swimming nearby. Authorities said he stepped off into 20 feet of water. His body was recovered early Sunday by a civil defense diver.
Survivors in addition to his parents include two brothers, Arlie and Dennis of Dumas; three sisters, Mrs. Shirley Chapman of Monticello, Mrs. Lela Hall and Patricia Ann Spears of Dumas; and grandfather, Marvin Spears of Dumas. Clifford "Bud" Spears, age 71 of Russellville, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home. He was born January 24, 1936 at Storm Lake, Iowa to the late Leonard and Alma Beck Spears. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the First United Methodist Church at Dardanelle.
He is preceded in death by his father; brother, Richard Spears.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Spears of Russellville; daughters, Kim Spears of Tulsa, OK, Kelley Cromwell of Springtown, TX; sons, Kurt Spears of Dardanelle, Keith Spears of Russellville; mother, Alma Spears of Spencer, Iowa; sisters, Myra Coover of Spencer, Iowa, Linda Edward-son of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Friday, December 28, 2007 at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle with Ed Anderson officiating. Interment was held at Brearley Cemetery. Mr. Clifford K. Spears, age 66 of Briggsville died Saturday, December 12, 1992 at his home in Briggsville. He was a retired fanner, a native of Briggsville, son of the late William Issac and Minnie Keys Spears, a WWII Army Tank Gunner, Member of the VFW.
Survivors are his wife, Jean Nichols Spears; four sons, Billy Hill, Jerry Spears, Tony Spears and Randy Spears all of Briggsville; two sisters, Marie Lawson of Waldron and Betty Willis of Briggsville; mother-in-law, Bertha Nichols of Briggsville; two uncles, Bill Spears of Briggsville and Loy Spears of Rover; two aunts, Jewel Melton of Briggsville and Unice Scott of Hot Springs and nine grandchildren.

BLUFFTON - Clyde Henry Spears, age 68, of Bluffton, a retired farmer, died Tuesday.

Donald Eugene Spears, age 71, of Dardanelle died Friday, June 3 at his home. He was born January 27, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late William David and Ruby Hill Spears. He was an infantry paratrooper who served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the DAV in California and Russellville, serving as past Commander in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill Spears and sister, Kay Spears.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Vinita Potter Spears, children and spouses, Donnie and Sue Spears of Dardanelle; Debbie and Kevin Souza of Ripon, California; Teresa and Jeff Webb of Austin, Indiana; Carol Spears of Dardanelle; 12 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Homer Lee "Buck" Spears, a resident of Porterville, CA passed away in Visalia, CA on Thursday, March 22, 2007. He was born in Steve, AR in 1916 to the late John and Maude Cox Spears. He moved to Porterville with his wife and first child in 1943. He coached Porterville Bobby Sox baseball for 10 years. He was a member of the Democrats of California.

Johnnie R. Spears, 96, of Ola, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at Chambers Memorial in Danville. She was born December 5, 1919 at Briggsville to the late Van and Ruby McBride Dawson. She retired from working in medical records. She was a member of the Briggsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Spears loved to fish, sew, cook, and play the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Bill" Spears; son, Billy Keith Spears; grandson, Mike Spears; four sisters, Merle McCall, Macie Dischard, Irene Click, Sammie Montgomery; and one brother, Robert Dawson.

Michael K. Spears, 44, of Ola, was killed last Sunday afternoon near Centerville in a motorcycle accident. According to Trooper Shane Bewley, Spears was southbound on Highway 7 in Centerville, riding a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. The report stated that Spears was passing several vehicles at a high rate of speed, when he met on-coming traffic. Spears pulled back into his lane, striking the front of a south-bound pickup, losing control, crossing a ditch on the right side of Highway 7. He then struck a small tree, hit a trampoline and a swing set, coming to rest in the front yard of a house next to the Centerville Post Office. Spears was pronounced dead on scene by Deputy Coroner John McCourt. Trooper Bewley was assisted by Yell County deputies Eugene Keeling, Charlie Smith, and Larry Chambers.

Owen William Spears, 87 passed away peacefully in Porterville, CA. October 11, 2011. Owen was born March 11, 1924 in Yell County, Arkansas to John and Maude Spears. Owen met and married Marie (Pate) Spears in 1946. Owen lived a long life and worked many jobs to support his family. He became a sub-foreman at the former Lindsay Ripe Olive plant, in Lindsay, CA. where he retired after 20 years. He loved baseball, his team was the SF Giants and when they were out of season he loved his SF 49'ers. He was an avid Pool player and won many tournaments. Owen made many friends in his 87 years. Owen will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Owen is survived by his wife, Marie (Pate) Spears of 65 years. His children include two daughters, Maudine (Spears) Grenfell, of Porterville, CA., Kathleen (Spears) Dodd of MO., two sons Jody Spears of Porterville, CA., and Donald Spears and wife Kathie Spears of Stockton CA. He had six grandchildren Mark and Lupe Wells of Porterville, CA., Jeremy and Yelena Hogan of Bloomington, IN, Loraine (Hogan) and Jake Pipkin of Porterville, CA, Melissa Grenfell and Adina Feemster of Porterville, CA, Shannon (Spears) and Jason Gustaveson of San Diego, CA., and Mathew Spears of San Diego, CA. Nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

He retired from Deltic Lumber Company and Wayne Farms. He was baptized at the Chalybeate Springs Missionary Baptist church and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melissa Spears Sherrill; son-in-law, Mark Meirndorf; infant grandson, Bradley Meirndorf and a sister, Juanita Spears Alvey.

Beverly Sue Spencer, age 66, of Dardanelle, AR did Saturday, December 20, 2008 at her home. She was born at Cathage, IL to the late Vincent and Eva Mae LeClare Brown. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Russellville.

Eldriche Ray Spencer, age 67, of Dardanelle, AR died Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, AR. He was born September 19, 1939 at Pemiscot County, MO to the late Jesse Wayne and Carrie Thomas Spencer. He was an Army Veteran and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Russellville. He retired from Tyson Foods in Dardanelle after 17 years of employment.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

HOT SPRINGS Mrs. Mae Spencer, age 60, a teacher in Hot Springs public school system, died Wednesday. (August 23) She was a native of Rover (Yell County), had taught at Greenwood Elementary School for 11 years and at Eastside Elementary School for a year and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
