Sawin, Twila May

Twila May Sawin, age 74, of Dardanelle, AR, widow of Leo Sawin, died Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. She was born March 14, 1926 in Concordia, KS to the late George and Edith Lewis Laplant. She was a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by a son and daughter, Terrence and Tammara Sawin, one brother, George Laplant and a grandson, Jake Herebia.

She is survived by two sons, Leo Sawin, Sr. and Gail Sawin both of Russellville, AR; four daughters, Pamela Saldana of Dardanelle, AR, Linda Laplant of Anderson, MO, Sandra Myers of Torrence, CA and Debra Chad wick of Hesperia, CA; two sisters, Bonnie Mapes of Grove, OK and Margaret Brown of Manhattan, KS; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Sawrie, Charles Melvin

Charles Melvin Sawrie, age 72, of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in Russellville. He was born February 1, 1942 in Wild Cat Hollow to the late Richard Luther and Thelma Imogene Wood Sawrie. He was a computer programmer and a United States Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard A. Sawrie.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Cathy Sawrie of Russellville; daughter, Cynthia Walker and her husband Lloyd of Russellville; son, Brett Edward Sawrie of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother, Jerry Sawrie and wife Teresa of Russellville; three sisters, Bettye Platt and husband Michael of Rogers, Barbara Thalheimer and husband Bruce of Little Rock, Martha Stephenson and husband Warren of Little Rock; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Sawrie, Jewell Lillie (Tucker)

Jewell Lillie Tucker Bowie Sawrie, 88, of Greenbrier died today [Jan. 22, 1996] at Conway Regional Medical Center. Born February 4, 1907, in Faulkner County, a daughter of John Wesley and Luvicia Craig Tucker, she was the widow of Barnaby L. Bowie and Orville S. Sawrie. She was a homemaker and foster grandparent at Conway Human Development Center and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Gerald F. Bowie and Billy L. Bowie, both of Conway, and Daniel Jett Bowie of Greenbrier; three daughters, Deloris Hardin of Vilonia, Betty V. Sawrie of Greenbrier and Bonnie J. Younger of Cordellaine [Coeur d'Alene], Idaho; one stepson, Clifford E. Sawrie of Hot Springs; two sisters, Virgie McDonald of North Little Rock and Mary Blair of Scott [Pulaski County]; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Elroy Bowie, and a daughter, Patricia Diane Bowie.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Troutman and the Rev. Sidney Sawrie officiating. Burial will be at Marcus Hill Cemetary at Enola. Pallbearers will be Wayne Bowie, Jeff Hardin, Tim Bowie, Scott Bailey, David Singleton and Kenneth Childers. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Ronald Thomas Sawrie, age 59 of New Blaine died Friday, September 2, 2005 at his home. He was born August 10, 1946 at Russellville to Glen-don Thomas and Pauline Ann Browning Sawrie.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane Sawrie of New Blaine two daughters, Tammy Talbot and Crystal Rogers both of Lake Charles, LA two brothers, Gary Sawrie of West Memphis, and Sonny Lane of Dardanelles two sisters, Kathleen Parker of West Memphis and Ann Marie Thompson of Kensett grandmother, Marion Browning of Concord, NH grandchildren, Darrell Talbot, Erin Rogers, Lisa Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Cody Rogers, Ethyn Rogers, all of Lake Charles, LA and one expecting great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Delaware First Baptist Church with Rev. Wylie Jones officiating. Interment was at Durvin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Johnny Norris, James Talbot, Jerome Whitby, Pat Ward, Marvin Wiggins, and Kenneth Rogers. Honorary pallbearers included John Rogerson, Robert Dixon, and Bob Henderson. Sawyer, Michael Daryl

Michael Daryl Sawyer, age 22, of Plainview, AR, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville, AR. He was born February 23, 1985 in Blytheville, AR, to Mike and Melanie Sawyer. He was a member of the Rover Baptist Church, a 2003 Plainview/Rover High School graduate; he was very active in FFA. He worked at Tyson Truck Service Center.

He was preceded in death by his girlfriend, Melissa Spears Sherrill.

He is survived by his parents, Mike and Melinda Sawyer; brother and sister-in-law, Matthew Carl and Tatiana Sawyer of London; a sister, Mindy Dawn Sawyer of DeFuniak Springs, FL; his grandmother, Virginia Sawyer of Brentwood, TN; two nieces, Callista Fern Wright and Alana Grace Sawyer; a nephew, Rowen Michael Sawyer; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral service was June 15, 2007 at the Rover Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Shipley and Rev. Elvin McDill officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Linda Mae Sayre, 65, of Shawnee, KS, formally of Gravelly passed away on August 18, 2016. Linda was born January 21, 1951, in Waldron, Arkansas to Bruee & Nella Hunnicutt.

Linda is survived by her husband, Ron, children; Stephen Sayre and Michael (Shandi) Sayre, brother, Billy Hunnicutt, six grandsons.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Elijah Sayre.

Sbisa, Tracy Leigh (Stewart)

Tracy Leigh Stewart Sbisa of SIidell, LA, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012 at her home at the age of 41. She was the beloved wife of Jamie Sbisa, a life long resident of Slidell, LA.

Tracy is also survived by her parents, Lee and Marty Stewart; two sisters, Deborah Carlson married to Steve, and Mary McGill married to Oliver; three nieces, Jessica Carlson, Reagan Carlson, and Sarah McGill; one nephew, Trey McGill, all residents of Slidell, LA. Tracy was born on August 25, 1970 at the Naval Air Station Memphis, MilIington,TN. She is a graduate of Northshore High School in Slidell, and the University of New Orleans, graduating with a Masters degree in Education. She taught high school English at her alma mater, Northshore High School, from 1992 until 1998. She then went to work for the Ochsner Medical Center in the Human Resources Department rising to the position of Director, Human Resources, which she held until her death. Tracy lived a fulfilling life, in spite of having Cystic Fibrosis. She was very instrumental in organizing local fund raising activities to support finding a cure.

Scantling, Meagan Alyssa

Meagan Alyssa Scantling, age 15, of Dardanelle died Monday, July 19, 2010 at River Valley Medical Center in Dardanelle. She was born December 20, 1994 at Fort Smith, Arkansas to Todd Scantling and LaDonna Essman Whitten. She was a member of the Dardanelle First Baptist Church, Dardanelle Lady Sand Lizards basketball, softball and track teams. This past year she won the district cross country championship meet and set a new district record. During the summer she played on the Dardanelle Rockers softball team and the Lady Force basketball team of the MAYB.

She is survived by her mother, LaDonna Essman Whitten of Dardanelle; father, Todd Scantling of Waldron; grandparents, Hoyt and Audrey Scantling of Mansfield, Landon and Alice Ridenoure of Chester and Gerald and Joni Essman of Waldron; one brother, Ryan Scantling of Dardanelle; one sister, Jessie Whitten of Dardanelle; special friends, Dave, Paige, Allie and Cameron Evans all of Dardanelle; many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were July 22, 2010, at the Dardanelle First Baptist Church with Brother Mike Smith officiating. Burial was in Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle. Mrs. Ollie P. Scarborough, age 97, of Danville, AR died Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. She was born September 17, 1900 in Jena, Louisiana to the late Jake and Sally Huffman Paul. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. She competed in the District 11 Annual Queen Pageant in Ft. Smith two years ago. In that pageant she won Ms. Friendly. She enjoyed listening to music and all kinds of crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Ray Scarborough and three sons, Bruce, Huey and Joe Scarborough.

Survivors are three sons, Randolph and AC Scarborough both of Abilene, TX and David Scarborough of Russellville; five daughters, Marie Allen of Winfield, Louisiana, Lucille Tolbert of Jonesville, Louisiana, Evelyn Ballew of Abilene, TX, Annie Fowler and Mamie Fowler both of Danville, AR; 43 grandchildren; several greats grandchildren and great-great-grand children.

Schlarbaum, Doris Jean

Doris Jean Schlarbaum, age 62, of Dardanelle, AR, formerly of Phoenix, AZ died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Baptist Medical Center. She was born December 6, 1944 at Las Vegas, NM to the late Ned V. and Ana Velma Gibson Shanks.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Martin Shanks and a granddaughter Krista Wagner.

She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Ballinger of Queen Creek, AZ, Candy Potter of Gilbert, AZ, Penni Etheredge of Centerville, AR and Heahter Baugh of Dardanelle, AR; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.

Okla Elizabeth (Betty) Howsley Schlattmann, age 82, went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2012 in the home of her daughter, Sandra in Greenbrier, AR. She was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on January 12, 1930. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Okla Howsley and father, Joseph G. Howsley and five brothers and one sister, Herschel Howsley, Harold Howsley, Johnnie Howsley, Donald Howsley, J. W. Howsley, and Jo Anne Curran.

She is survived by one sister, Doris Osborn (husband, Richard); four daughters, Sandra Aslakson (husband, Richard), Carol Armstrong, Barbara Tovar, and Patricia Duncan (husband, Bobby), two sons, Paul Schlattman (wife, Sandra) and Larry Schlattmann (wife, Sandra), sixteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Betty was a faithful member of 18th Street Free Will Baptist Church for many years and in later years attended and was a member of Levy Baptist Church in NLR, AR. Betty loved quilting, gardening, and reading. She also enjoyed her travels and staying at the occasional B&B.

Schloh, Wanda Katherine Kirkendall

Mrs. Wanda Katherine Kirkendall Schloh, age 91, a resident of DeQueen, AR, and former resident of Wickes, AR died Thursday, February 14, 2008 in the DeQueen Medical Center. She was born to Harrison Runyan and Lydia Burd Kirkendall at Natoma, KS on November 3, 1916. She was a member of the Wickes First United Methodist Church and the DeQueen First United Methodist Church, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching, and working.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Jean Callahan of Danville, AR and Shelia and James Morris of DeQueen; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; a special friend, Barbara DeMarce; and a special caregiver, Monica Thompson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wanda Schloh were Saturday in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Schmelzla, Dolphus "Junior"

Dolphus "Junior" Schmelzla, 47 of Russellville, Arkansas, departed this life Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born January 6, 1966 in Arizona to Dolphus Schmelzla Sr., and Frieda Schmelzla.

He was preceded in death by his father. Dolphus left this world doing what he loved to do, riding his motorcycle and on his way to work as a proud police officer. He was a graduate of Ola High School and the Camden Police Academy and the National truck driving School. He truly loved his 20 plus years of law enforcement and also held his Scuba Diving Certification.

Survivors include his wife and best friend of 7 years, Dusty Dean Schmelzla as they were inseparable; his mother Frieda Schmelzla of Danville, Arkansas; one sister, Denise and his niece Cimalene; Junior will also be missed by his dog Maddie.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Restoration Church in Russellville with the Rev. James Findley officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard Funeral Home of Russellville. Celia Ellen Schmitt, age 85 of Danville, AR formally of Roseville, CA, passed away Friday, August 8, 1997 at St. Edward's Hospital in Fort Smith, Ar. She was born in Roseville, CA November 30, 1910 daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Falconer Cirby. She was a retired licensed vocational nurse, and served with the Peace Corp for a year at the age of 69. She was a member of the Lady Eagles and the Sigma Phi Sorority and the First Southern Baptist Church of Roseville, CA. She was the widow of Charles Carlos) Ralph Schmitt.

Survivors include a daughter, Mignonette Kelley of Laharpe, KS; two sons, Lauren Schmitt and Kirby Schmitt both of Roseville, CA; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

Schoonover, Claude Burton

Claude Burton Schoonover, Jr. age 68, of Denton, NC, formerly of Centerville, AR. died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro after a brief illness. He was born November 15, 1930 in York, Indiana to Claude B. Schoonover. Sr. and Clella O'Connor Schoonover. He worked as a farmer and in trucking and was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Eloise Borton Schoonover of the home; three sons, Michael Alan, Mark Randall and Kent James Schoonover all of Denton, NC; a daughter, Kristine Ann Sanders of Greenwood, AR; four grandchildren; a brother, Larry Schoonover of Garrett, Indiana; four sisters, Madaline Freese of Bryan, Ohio, Margaret Everetts and Sharon Blalock both of Edgerton, Ohio and Sue Walter of Hamilton, Indiana.

Schuemann, Alvin William

Alvin William Schuemann, age 87, of Dardanelle, AR died Sunday, May 13, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville, AR. He was born January 15, 1914 in Blue Island, Illinois to the late Herman and Emma Schroeder Schuemann. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Blue Island, IL and after his retirement as a meat cutter he and his wife moved to Dardanelle and joined St. John's Lutheran church in Russellville where he served as an elder. He was a member of the Bay Ridge Boat and Golf Club, a life time member of the Elks Club, the German and American Club for over 30 years, member and past president of the Russellville AARP and was a numismatist for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Martin and Lester Schuemann and two sisters, Stella Tagge and Alice Swafford.

Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Andres Schuemann; one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Ray Benck of Binghamton, NY; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Madelen Schuemann of Squaw Lake, Minnesota and Garry and Virginia Schuemann of Darlen, IL; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Service will be today, Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at 1:00 p. m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Russellville with Rev. Darrell C. Kobs officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery, Dardanelle, AR by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle.
