Sanders, Patricia Ann

Patricia Ann Sanders, age 60, of Dardanelle died Monday at Dardanelle Hospital. She was born November 30, 1941 in Russellville. She was the daughter of William R. and Barbara Ellen Linton Mitchell. She was a homemaker, a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Girl Scouts of America.

Survivors include her mother, Barbara Mitchell of Pottsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Sanders of Dardanelle, Keith and Kristy Sanders of Danville; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbie Ann and Todd Davis of Clinton; two brothers, Billy Mitchell of Hector, and Tim Mitchell of Russellville; a sister, Cecilia Cody of Russellville; seven grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were Thursday, December 20, at 2:00 p. m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Franklin Piercey and Rev. Mark Lashley officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Russellville by Cornwell Funeral Service of Dardanelle. Visitation was Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Pallbearers were Benny Robinson, Terry Dunn, Chester Carrier, Jeff Walker, Roy Bull, and Steve Garner. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Vernon, Cynthia Hines, M. D. Sanders, Reba Lois (Phillips)

Reba Lois Sanders, age 83, of Danville passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013. Reba was born December 26, 1929 in Waltreak, AR. to the late Thomas Jefferson & Ola Mae Hudson Phillips. She was a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Luster C. Sanders; and sister Betty Gangluff.

Survivors include son Doug & wife Kris Sanders of Greenwood; daughter Gwen Delois Harris of Mayflower; step-daughter Wanda Jean Campbell of Mesquite TX.; sister Mary Millard of Chickalah Mountain; aunt Anna Lea Horn of Danville; several grandchildren &great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Chalybeate Springs Cemetery with Elder Dennis Horn officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday, November 30, at the funeral home. Sanders, Roy L.

Roy L. Sanders, age 72, of Dardanelle, AR died Wednesday at Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born January 17, 1931 at Ward, AR the son of the late Norman and Mable Parker Sanders. He was a retired paint contractor.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Billy Sanders and sisters, Ruby Green and Mildred O'Neal.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Willie Mae Sanders of Dardanelle; sons, Kenneth Sanders of Springdale and Mitchell and David Sanders of Ft. Worth, TX and a brother, Ray Sanders of Pine Bluff, AR.

Ronnie Lee Sanderson, age 57, of Plainview, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born January 9, 1950 in Brownfield, Texas to Eugene and Vivian Holmes Sanderson. He was a Navy/Marine Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Sanderson; sister Sue Bolen; step-father John Bolen.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Hale Sanderson; mother Vivian Bolen of Kingsland, Texas; one brother; four sisters; mother-in-law, Louise Hale of Plainview; sister-in-law Sandra Smith of Birmingham, Alabama.

Sandfort, Vivian G.

Vivian G. Sandfort, age 92 of Dardanelle, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at her home in Dardanelle. She was born August 21, 1911 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to the late Albert and Myrtle Hamm Furner. She was a retired employee for the Arkansas State Revenue Department, member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Russellville and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Sandfort; two brothers, Ken and Walter Furner and one sister, Cora Hamilton.

Survivors are two nieces and husband, Mary Ann and Tim Ahrens of Tucson, Arizona, Sally Ladage of Ft. Smith; nephew, Dr. Sandford Ladage of Henderson, Texas; sister-in-law, Felicitas Sandford Ladage of Ft. Smith.

Sandfort, Weldon Weigand

DARDANELLE - Weldon Weigand Sandfort, age 72, of Dardanelle died Monday, March 18, 1985, at Dardanelle Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired foreign service officer for the U. S. State Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vivian Furner Sandfort, and a sister, Felicitas Ladage of Fort Smith.

Funeral will be at 10 a. m. Thursday at Cornwell Chapel. Graveside service will be at 3 p. m. Thursday at Roselawn Cemetery at Fort Smith. Burial will be by Cornwell Funeral Service. Sandlin, George Dewey

George Dewey Sandlin, age 88, died December 17, 1986 at a Hot Springs Hospital where he was a long time resident. He was a native of Ola, a retired machinist, and a Baptist. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the AEF in France and in World War II in the Naval Ground Forces in Sicily, a Mason, and member of Eastern Star where he was past Worthy Patron.

Survivors include his wife, Connie C. Sandlin of Hot Springs; one son, George D. Sandlin, Jr. of Bismark; one brother, James Walter Sandlin of East Falmont, Mass.; one sister-in-law, Ruby Sandlin of Ola and 5 grandchildren.

James Luke Sandlin, 67, who was born at Ola, February 22, 1873 and lived there all of his life, died June 20, 1940.

He is survived by his widow Mrs. Lola Sandlin, 4 sons, Dewey of Camp Petit Jean, Morrilton and Tom and Walter of Ola and Jack of Seminole, Okla. and three daughters, Mrs. Jess Mott Ola, Miss Ruth Sandlin of Dardanelle and Mrs. Frank Sherwood of Long Beach, Calif., 2 brothers, Rod and Duke Sandlin, Ola and three sisters, Mrs. Julia Foster and Mrs. Zora Reeves both of Paris, Texas, and eleven grand-children. James Roy Sandlin, age 88, of Ola, died Monday, June 4, 1984 at the V. A. Hospital in Little Rock. Sandlin was a native of Yell County, the son of the late Mark and Delola Tedder Asaudlin, a Baptist, a Mason, a Veteran of WW I, and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josie Anderson Sandlin of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ester Ivey of Ola; one grandson, Eddie C. Ivey; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth Ivey of East Lausing, Michigan; and one sister, Mrs. Miriam Gateley of Ola.

Josie Sandlin, age 98, of Kingston community, AR, died Thursday, August 16, 2001 at Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Avant, AR on May 18, 1903, daughter of the late Robertson C. and Esther C. Meek Anderson. She was a homemaker, a 50 year member of the Easter Star and a 60 year member of the EH Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Sandlin and two brothers, Gaston and H. L. Anderson.

Mack Duke Sandlin died in the Yell County Hospital April 30, 1960 at the age of 92. He was the son of the late J. J. Sandlin and Esther Jane Harper. He was born at Hartsell, Ala. and came to Yell County at an early age. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and belonged to the Petit Jean Masonic Lodge for 71 years. He was a retired farmer.

Ruby M. Sandlin, age 97, a resident of Ola, AR died Thursday, November 1, 2001 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville, AR. She was born on August 16, 1904, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Tennie Orlena Howard Partin. She was a member of the Ola First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Sandlin; a son, Jim T. Sandlin; and two sisters, Margaret Benefield and Maerue Hudlow.

Survivors are a brother, William Partin of Arizona; a sister, Thelma Yearwood of Santa Anna, CA; four grandchildren, Cheryl Koelling, David and Jeff Sandlin all of Cincinnati, Ohio and Greg Sandlin of Tennessee; caretakers, Jewell Hampton and Billie Sharp both of Ola, AR and other relatives and friends.

Sandstrom, Reba Merle (Skinner)

Born to Jesse Skinner and Delsie Frame Skinner on Jun 20, 1922 in Havana, Yell County, Arkansas, Reba died March 13, 2013 in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon. ... Obituary She was one of ten children. She graduated from Morgan High School in Morgan, Utah in 1940. She entered the U.S. Navy in April, 1943 and served as a WAVE on Treasure Island in San Francisco, California.

On June 20, 1945, she married Robert William Sandstrom in Berkeley, California who preceded her in death. In 1945 the two of them moved to Portland, Oregon and then to Salem, Oregon in 1946. Reba moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 2004. She lived at Riverview Terrace Retirement and Assisted Living.

Reba leaves behind two sons, Gary Sandstrom and wife, Shirley; Ron Sandstrom and wife, Susan, and two daughters, Carol Newell and husband, Clint; and Susan Madison and husband, Rodney. She had nine grandchildren: Jenny Browning and husband, Spencer, Scott Sandstrom and wife, Lori, Elliott Hyden and wife, Tiffany, Kyle Sandstrom, Jocelyn Jackson and husband, Wade, Shelby Sandstrom, Eric Sandstrom, Cameron Newell, and Connor Newell; and seven great-grandchildren: Katie Sandstrom, Bailey Browning, Andrew Sandstrom, McKenzie Jackson, Tatym Browning, Roman Jackson, and Ellie Hyden. Reba was a homemaker and worked for a few years at the State Marine Board in Salem. She was also active in numerous community events. She was a member of the Salem-Keizer Zenith Woman's Club, the 20-30 Club, a Cub Scout leader, a Room Mother and Camp Fire leader. She played bridge and pinochle and enjoyed swimming and golf. She also loved to cook, sew, garden, and have family dinners. She also made sure all four of her children graduated from college. Reba will be laid to rest next to Robert William Sandstrom at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem, Oregon. A private celebration of her life will be held in Salem, Oregon in March. Richard Wilburn Sanford, age 77 of Delaware died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the River Medical Center in Dardanelle. He was born March 24, 1932 in Laplanto, AR to the late Benjamin Franklin Sanford and Gertie Estell Branman Sanford. He retired after 30 years from Travis Air Force Base in California as a heavy equipment operator and EMT.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Viola McPike.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret Olson Sanford; a son, Richard Dwayne Sanford of Cottonwood, CA; four daughters, Brenda Starks of Delaware, Carolyn Chappell of Vacaville, CA, Peggy Sanford of Cottonwood, CA, Karen Geske of Hattiesburg, MS; grandchildren, Shaun Sanford, Carrie Sanford, Todd Sanford, Ashley MCVay, Billy Chappell, Eric Chappell, Becky Sanford, Angie Smith, Richard Hill and 7 great-grandchildren.

Virginia Fern "Springer" Sanford, age 74, of Dardanelle died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at River Valley Medical Center. She was born February 8, 1938 at Booneville to the late Rev. Harrison and Ona Lillian Reed Springer. She was a member of the Faith Church in Dardanelle, she loved to play the piano, sing and write music. Most of all she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant sister, Ona Marie Springer; two brothers, Jim Springer, Geral Springer.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Larry Sanford of Dardanelle; one daughter, Carrie Eviline Chambers and husband Larry of Dardanelle; two step sons, Danny Sanford and wife Starla, Billy Sanford and wife Teresa all of Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary Barnard of Booneville, Betty Lowery and husband W.C. of Havana; four brothers, Rev. Sanner, Ernest E.

Ernest E. Sanner, died October 19, 1998 at his home in Monte Vista, CO surrounded by his entire family. He had celebrated his 91st birthday on October 10. He was born October 10, 1907 in Briggsville, AR to James Joseph and Lucretia Jane Sanner. He married Ruby Nelle Cathey on August 23, 1941. They moved to Monte Vista in 1957 where he established Sanner Brothers Salvage with his brother, Leo. He loved life and all it had to offer. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was famous for his jokes and funny stories. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and was the number one Bronco fan. He was a member of Plainview, AR Masonic Lodge No 641 and received his 50-year pin September 9, 1997 in Monte Vista.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, two brothers and one son-in-law.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Nelle; a son, Michael Sanner; two daughter, June Richard) Brumfield of Monte Vista and Glenda (Frank) Bedoka of Chino Hills, CA; four grandchildren; two sisters, Armenda Mathis of Danville, Ar and Erma Nations of Briggsville, AR and 10 nieces and nephews. Sanner, Ruby Nelle

Ruby Nelle Sanner died April 14, 1999 in Monte Vista, CA after a short illness. She was born November 10, 1919 in Briggsville, AR to Tom and Alice Cathey and was married to Ernest E. Sanner August 23, 1941.

She was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate of 57 years, Ernest E. Sanner, her parents; one brother, Glen and son-in-law, Frank Bedoka.

Along with her family, she moved to Monte Vista from Arkansas and helped to establish Sanner Brothers Salvage, keeping their books for 40 years. Actively involved in the lives of her children, she served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts and as Mother Advisor, Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was a Past Matron of Bethlehem Chapter 56 Order of Easter Star. A member of First Baptist Church of Monte Vista, she actively participated in the American Baptist Women's Missionary Society. Always the caretaker, she was deeply devoted to her family and always gave freely of her time to those with needs she could help to fill. She was ever young at heart but felt a special bond with older people and gave them many hours of her time. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her home was always open and the coffee pot was always on. She will be missed.

She is survived by her son, Michael Sanner of Monte Vista; two daughters, June (Richard) Brumfield of Monte Vista and Glenda (Frank) Bedoka of Chino Hills, CA; four grandchildren, Scott Brumfield of Monte Vista, Greg Brumfield of Grand Junction, Stephanie and Christopher Bedoka of Chino Hills as well as one nephew.

DARDANELLE - Franklin Dee Sapp Sr., 69, of Pottsville died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1943, at Dardanelle, to the late John and Dovie Moore Sapp. He was employed by Hindsman Tire in Russellville for 26 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, G.C. McElroy; and a brother, William Sapp.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Ramey Sapp of Pottsville; two sons, Dee Sapp and wife, Raquel, of Dardanelle, Mitchell Sapp of Pottsville; four grandchildren, Shane Sapp, Jessica Sapp Miller, Brandi Sapp-Collins and Presley Sapp; and six great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Sarkiewiez, age 85 of Ola, died Friday, June 7, 2002 at the Yell County Nursing home in Ola. Mrs. Sarkiewiez was born July 19, 1916 in Ohio. She was a nurses aid.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Sarkiewiez.

Survivors include a step-son, Edward Surman of Olmsted, Ohio and a niece, Silvia Roob of Tucson, Arizona.

He was born September 19, 1914, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Q. L. and Ida Tacy Moore Sauls. During WWII he worked on special projects in Oakridge, TN, then later worked as a manufacturer's representative. He was a 32nd Degree Mason; a member of the Shriner's in Oklahoma City; a member of the National Association of Manufacturer's Representatives; and attended the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Russellville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Sauls; a brother, Joe Sauls; and 2 sisters, Helen Shelton and Ruth Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene K. Sauls of Russellville; 3 sons daughters-in-law, Ronald Dean Sauls of Dardanelle, Dr. C. Dan and Cheryl C. Sauls of Houston, TX and John Henry and Vicki Sauls of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Elyse and Mark Meaney of Liberty, MO; a brother, Douglas Sauls of Norman, OK; a sister, Lucille Gable of Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral will be 10 a. m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Shinn Chapel with Rev. Don Erwin officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service, Russellville, AR. Active pallbearers will be Austin, Andy, John H. Ron, Ron Jr. and John Sauls. Ed Saunders, 80 year old resident of Steve, died at his home on Monday, June 30, 1952. He had lived in the Steve community 50years and was a farmer.

Saunders, George James

George James Saunders, age 83, a lifelong resident of Dardanelle, AR, died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at the Dardanelle Hospital. He was born May 10, 1916 in Dardanelle, AR to the late Thomas Edward and Martha Eugenia Aiken Saunders. He graduated salutatorian from Dardanelle High School in 1934 and immediately began working for Cornwell Funeral Home. He was a funeral director and bookkeeper for the funeral home, Yell County Burial Association and Wonder State Insurance Company. In the early years, he not only directed funerals and took care of the families, but he dug the graves, made the tent set-ups, drove the hearse, arranged the flowers for the services but in general did every job that was needed to make things easier for each family, most of whom he knew personally. He retired after 62 years sharing his vast knowledge of the business and working closely with three generations, including Lloyd and Violet Cornwell, Violet and Glen Bailey, Mike Cornwell and Rush Cornwell. He was a 32 degree mason, member of Order of Eastern Star, receiving his 50 year pin from Bright Star Lodge 213 in 1994. He was also a member of the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association and the First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle. On November 5, 1989 the City of Dardanelle honored him with George Saunders Day.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Hancock Saunders; three sons, William Saunders, Thomas Saunders and infant Saunders; step-father, Y. W. Broadhurst; a brother, Charles Saunders and a sister, Edna Saunders.

Survivors are two sons, George E. Saunders of La Habra, CA and Jerry Saunders of Van Buren, AR; two sister, Agnes Broadhurst of Dardanelle, AR and Grace Karley of Erie, PA.

Services were June 9, 1999 at the Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with Rev. Bennie Harmon and Rev. James Lowe officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle, AR. Saunders, Gladys Kelly

Mrs. Gladys Kelly Saunders, age 79, of Albuquerque, N. M. died April 9th in Albuquerque. She was a native of Yell County, a housewife and homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Saunders of Albuquerque.

Saunders, R. G.

R. G. Saunders, a former resident of Yell County was born at Belleville, February 1914 and was killed in a car wreck October 7, 1949 at Gravesprings, near Lebanon, Mo. A 1933 Model pickup, which he was driving went out of control and overturned on Highway 5, five miles south of the city. He was raised and lived most of his life at Steve and Plainview. He also was a Veteran of WWII.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. R. G. Saunders, Lebanon, Mo. He was the son of Mrs. Minnie Hawthorne, Hot Springs and the late George Saunders; three brothers, Wesley of Russellville, Wilbur and Kermit of Texas and G. B. Saunders, Ruby Nell (White)

Ruby Nell White Saunders, 93, of Dardanelle, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. The daughter of John and Dora White, she was born March 23, 1920 in Plainview. She was an employee of the International Shoe Company and a member and treasurer of the Order of the Eastern Star, Arkansas Valley Chapter 606 for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her home and animals and participating with the members of the Eastern Stars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Saunders; her parents; two brothers, Huey White and Jack White; and her nephew, Tom White.

Survivors include her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral Service was held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Plainview First Baptist Church in Plainview. Rev David Bishop and Rev Joe Yates will officiated. Burial was at New Bethel Cemetery in Plainview by Humphrey Funeral Service. Pallbearers are Mike Saunders, Kenneth Crawford, Ronnie Crawford, Don Pelt, Jerry Pelt and Tommy Pelt. William Allen "Shawn" Saunders; age 54, of Dardanelle, AR died Tuesday, December 22, 1998 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born May 14, 1944 at Dardanelle, AR. He was a retired employee of the Dardanelle Post Office, a Navy Veteran and a member of the American Postal Workers Union and First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Hancock Saunders and a brother, Thomas Henry Saunders.

Savage, Corey

Corey Savage, 20, of Belleville died Saturday, November 6, 2004, at his home. He was born August 16, 1984, in Little Rock. He was a 2003 graduate of Dardanelle High School and was attending Arkansas Tech University. He wanted to become a doctor and had worked for the past several years at Dardanelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include his mother, Cathi Savage of Belleville; two brothers, Christopher Savage of Dover, K. C. Savage of Dardanelle; two sisters, Kelli Savage of Dardanelle, Keri Ramirez of Russellville; maternal grandmother, Violet Savage of Rogers; a special friend, Robin McClure of New Blaine and her daughter, Ashlyn; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Humphrey Chapel. Burial will be in North New Hope Cemetery at Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service. Pallbearers include Gabe Brown, Clayton Blood saw, Josh Crawford, Robert Morgan, Osmin Ramirez and Timothy Sellers. Gail Eugene Sawin, age 52 of Russellville, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at his sister's home in Russellville where he resided. He was born December 28, 1955 at Belleville, KS to the late Leo and Twila LaPlante Sawin.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister, Terrance and Tamara Sawin; nephew, Jake Heredia.

Survivors include his brother, Leo Sawin Jr. of the Happy Valley Community; sisters, Linda Sawin LaPlante and Debbra Sawin Chadwick both of Anderson, Missouri, Pamela Sawin Saldana of Russellville, Sandra Sawin Myers of California; ten nephews and nieces; sixteen great nephews and nieces and one great-great niece.
