Pool, Helen Margaret (Crow)

Helen Margaret (Crow) Pool was a native of Yell County, born December 11, 1916 to Arthur and Goly (Dean) Crow. Following completion of high school in Ola, she graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College then she returned to Ola to teach. With husband Henry Hays Pool she resided in Richardson, Texas the past five decades. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Richardson, she served as President of Women's Society of Christian Service, was awarded the Lifetime WSCS Membership, and functioned in staff as well as volunteer capacities with the church.

Survivors include her Hays, husband of 67 years daughter, Janice of Heath, TX and a large family including the many children she considered most precious.

Graveside service will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Harris Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle. Memorial may be made to the Harris Cemetery Fund, 709 Hamilton Cove, Russellville, AR, 72801. Henry Hays Pool of Richardson, TX, formerly of Ola, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011. He was born June 4, 1916 to Dr. Thomas J. Pool and Katy Daman Pool. A graduate of Ola High School and Arkansas Tech, he applied his extraordinary electncal engineering talents as he served in the Army Air Force training radar and radio communications mechanics, stationed in the US and Germany during World War II.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice of Heath, TX.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Harris Cemetery with arrangements by Cornwell Funeral Home. Pool, Henry Hays

Henry Hays Pool of Richardson, Texas, formerly of Ola, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011. He was born June 4, 1916, to Dr. Thomas J. Pool and Katy Daman Pool. A graduate of Ola High School and Arkansas Tech University, he applied his extraordinary electrical engineering talents as he served in the Army Air Force training radar and radio communications mechanics, stationed in the U.S. and Germany during World War II. He was a lifelong learner, curious, creative, patient, gentle and thoughtful, who loved music, storytellers (and storytelling!) and was in awe of nature. Henry and Helen (Crow) married July 24, 1938, at the Methodist Church in Dardanelle. They resided in Richardson in excess of five decades and belonged to First United Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by Helen in 2005, Henry is survived by daughter Janice of Heath, Texas. He loved being "Uncle Hays" to a large (and growing!) family including "brothers" and "sisters," nieces and nephews, and appreciated the friends who were his neighbors and those who cared for him at Arbor House.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Harris Cemetery, with arrangements by Cornwell Funeral Home. Pool, James R

James R Pool, age 62, passed away on July 17, 1991, at the V. A. Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana.

He is survived by three sisters. Helen Negri, Hemet CA, Anna Sanders, Cathedral City, CA and Phyllis Fair, Carlsbad, NM; and one brother, G. W. Pool, of Monterey Park CA. James was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pool of Danville.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville. He spent six years in the U. S. Navy aboard the battleship John S. Boles during the Korean War and saw combat on both land and sea.

DANVILLE - James R. Pool, age 52, of Harrisonburg, La. formerly of Danville, died Wednesday. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a Baptist.

Pool, Joe Edward

Joe Edward Pool, age 68, passed away at the Terrace West Nursing Home, in Midland, TX on November 22 1982. He had lived in Carlsbad, NM for 40 years his recent illness. He was born on May 25 1914 at Waltreak and raised in the Danville/Belleville area. He attended the Upper Spring School in his early years and later the Danville Schools.

He was preceded in death just over two months ago by his wife, Bernice Burruss Pool.

He is survived by two daughters, Nina Johnston, Midland, TX and Edwina Bishop, Fritch, TX; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pool, Yell County Nursing Home, Ola; three sisters, Helen Negri, Helment, CA, Anne Sander, Cathedral City, CA and Phyliss Fair, Carlsbad, NM; two brothers, G. W. Pool, Monterery Park, CA and James Pool, Little Rock. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad and the Elks Lodge, No. 1558 of Carlsbad.

Funeral services were arrange by Denton Funeral Home of Carlsbad and interment was in Carlsbad Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Northcut, Aulton Hefner, Rex Phillippi, Shorty Frier, Bud Rosprim and Clarke Marlow. Pool, Joseph R. Dick

Joseph R. Dick Pool, age 94, of Danville, died Thursday, June 16, at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola, Arkansas. He was a lifelong resident of Yell County. He was the son of the late George and Lou Johnston Pool. He was a Methodist, a retired insurance and monument salesman, and a Mason.

Survivors include two sons, G. W. Pool of Monterey Park, Ca. and James R. Pool of Little Rock; three daughters, Ann Sanders of Palm Springs, California, Helen Negri of Hemet, California, and Phyllis Fair of Carlsbad, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 20, at the Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Danville, with the Rev. Bob Pool officiating. Interment was in the Old Danville Cemetery, at Danville. Leon Bill Pool, age 91 of Danville, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Mitchell's Nursing Home. He was born September 1, 1918 in Chalybeate to the late Starlin and Maggie Rogers Pool. Preceded in death by his daughter, Fonda Lee Cline; granddaughters, Barbra Ann and Jackie Lee Cline; brothers, Ernest, Tom, Clyde Pool; sisters, Lessie Reynolds, Arbie Walker, Annie Pollard; son-in-law, John Babe Corbin.

DANVILLE - Mrs. Mayme Page Pool, age 91, of Danville died Thursday, February 13, 1986 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. She was a native and lifelong resident of Yell County, the daughter of the late Dick and Annie Page. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and of the United Methodist Church, and was the last survivor of the 1905 Sunday School Class at the Danville United Methodist Church.

Pool, Mr. Starling

Mr. Starling Pool, born February 17, 1875, died July 29. He has lived his entire life in Yell Co. He was married to Maggie Rogers at Union Hill. To this union eight children were born of which five survive as does the widow. The children are Earnest and Tom Pool, Chalybeate, Leon Pool, Macedonia, two daughters; Mrs. Lessie Reynolds, Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Arfia Walker, Dutch Creek, and two brothers. Dr. Tom Pool, Ola, and Wittin Pool, Washington State, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Woodard, Macedonia, and Mrs. Anna Price, Washington state, and 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His death occurred after an illness of only two days. The widow and all his children were at his bedside.

He was a retired cattle farmer and Real Estate Broker and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Beatrice Standridge Pool; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Kenneth Sparks of Tuttle, OK; Judy and Larry Elmore of Belleville, AR; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don and Glynelle Pool and Tracy Pool all of Danville; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Faye Pool of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Bert Wells Poole, age 68, of Russellville, died in the hospital there Sunday. He formerly lived at Ola and moved from Yell County about seven years ago. He operated at hatchery in Russellville. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Poole, Thomas J.

Dr. Thomas J. Poole [Pool], aged 69, prominent Yell County citizen and practicing physician, of Ola, died at a Little Rock hospital Wednesday. A native of Dutch Creek, Yell County, he was a captain in the Medical Corps in World War I, a former county health officer, a Mason and member of the American Legion.

Memorial services for William Ervie Poole, age 62, were held Friday. Sept. 14, 2007, in the Church of Christ in Lubbock. Officiating was George Hogland.

Mr. Poole died Sept. 12, 2007 in Lubbock. Born Dec 16, 1944 in Wheeler to Ervic and Eula (Boatman) Poole, he moved to Sunray in 1948. He graduated from Sunray High School in 1963 He received a BS degree in computer engineering from Texas Tech in 1996. He moved to Lubbock from Panama City, Fla in 1989. He married Mary L. Hunt in Paris. Tex. on Oct 23. 1987. He was retired from the Air Force. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; a son, Daynon Wayne Poole and his father-in-law, George Hunt.

Survivors include his wife Mary, of the home, two daughters, Elsie and Vern Steffey of Swink, OK, and Shayla Duncan of Cleveland, two sons, Brett and Jessica Poole of Lubbock and Dustin Duncan of Lubbock; his mother-in-law, Elsie Hun of Valliant, Okla.; three brothers, Kenneth and Debbie Poole of Clear Lake, Calif., Howard Poole and Roger Poole, both of Lubbock: a sister-in-law, JoAnn and Troy Gabehart of Dumas, Nephews, nieces and cousins, and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Rosetta Poplin, aged 63, wife of Horace Poplin, died Friday at a Russellville hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Yell County and was a member of the Plainview Assembly of God.

Mrs. Dora Porter, age 82 of Casa, AR died Thursday, January 2, 1997 at Mitchell Nursing Home in Danville. She was born in Hattieville, AR February 5, 1914, daughter of the late Dallas and Delia Hefiner Hayes. She was a mother and homemaker and the widow of Travis Porter.

Survivors include three sons, William Porter of Casa, Harlon Porter of Ola and Loyd Carroll Porter of Mesa, AZ; a brother, George Hayes of Perryville, AR; two sisters, Mamie Wise and Mary Marcum both of Casa, AR; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Porter, Jerry Wayne

Jerry Wayne Porter, 70, of Pottsville, died Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Russellville. He was born February 21, 1945, in Appleton, to Loy Ernest and Loetta Fay Wilson Porter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother- in-law, Wanda and Jimmy Austin.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon Bryant Porter; a son, and daughter-in-law, Jerry Jr. and Mitzi Porter; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Kevin Guinn; a brother, Ernest Porter; and three grandchildren, Amber, Logan and Colton.

Service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Shinn Chapel. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery in Pottsville and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. Porterfield, Diana Lynn

Diana Lynn Porterfield, age 41 of Ola, died March 14, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. Born October 9, 1965, in Liberty, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Melvis and Tina Tidwell Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ricky Porterfield, her parents, brother, Donnie Johnson, and son, Robert Beaver.

Edward Clinton Post, 62, of Ola, died at his home Sunday, March 20. He was a retired merchant seaman.

Glen Poteet, a former lifelong resident of Plainview, Arkansas died November 27, 2003 in the Park's Edge Nursing Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 10 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sally Watson Poteet, in 1985.

He is survived by one daughter, Virginia Simco and husband, Joe of Springdale, Arkansas; one son, Robert Poteet and wife, Linda of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Clarence Poteet of Steele, Missouri; one sister, Mary Belle Poteet of Caruthersville, Missouri; 6 granddaughters, 6 great-grandsons and 1 great granddaughter and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a member of the Salem Methodist Church and is buried in the Salem Cemetery. Poteet, John Thomas

John Thomas Poteet was born February 28, 1881 near Guntown, Miss. He moved to Plainview when just a young man. There he met and married Francis Ophelia Patterson June 4, 1914, daughter of Renold Patterson of Balloon, Ark.

To this union was born eight children of whom five still are living Mrs. James Day, Luxora, Ark. Thomas Ozell of Union City Tenn. Opal L and Patsy Ruth of the home and Pvt. J. C. Poteet in the army stationed in Japan. He also leaves four brothers and one sister, Sam, Creig, White and Ozell Poteet of Guntown, Miss, and India Cayson of Tupelo, Miss. three grand children and a number of nieces and nephews.

He had been in poor health for about 14 months. He had a heart attack about one month ago and another April the 8th, 1949 which took him away. He joined the Christian Church at an early age in Mississippi.

Poteet, Niecy Agnes Patterson

Niecy Agnes Patterson Poteet was born March 2, 1884 at Ola and passed away her home in Stelle, MO on December 24 at the age of 64 years. She was united in marriage to James Albert Poteet on December 6, 1905. To this union there was born seven children Bert, Hobart, Clarence, and Mary Belle of Steele, Mrs. Cline Page of Steel and Glenn and Leonard of Luxora, Ark. all of whom survived. Her husband preceded her in death January 13, 1925.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. In addition to her children she is survived by 10 grand children, 3 sisters, Mrs. O. L. Green, Mrs. Tom Watson of Plainview, and Mrs. Tom Poteet of Luxora, and a brother, Tom Patterson also of Plainview. She has a host of other relatives and many friends who respected her highly, and loved her much.

LITTLE ROCK - Mrs. Peggy Fulton Poteet, 46, died October 24. 1980. She was a native of Dardanelle, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Fulton, Little Rock, Mrs. Poteet was a secretary for the Little Rock School District vocational educational department, a member of the Lion Tamers Club; and was a Baptist.

Survivors are her husband, J. L. Poteet Jr.; a daughter, Miss Renee M. Poteet, Little Rock; a son, Jonathan L. Poteet III, Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Claude Fulton, Little Rock; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Jo Adcock, Vacaville, Calif., and Mrs. Joe Dillahunty, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Poteet is a niece of Venus and Boyd George and Mrs. George Daniels, Dardanelle.

OLA - Mrs. Sally E. Poteet, age 72, of Route 1, Ola, died Wednesday, April 17, 1985. She was a native of Plainview, daughter of the late Thomas A. and Jessie Rogers Watson, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Plainview.

Survivors include her husband, Glen Poteet; a son, Robert Poteet of Tulsa, Okla. a daughter, Mary Virginia Simco of Springdale; five brothers, Thomas H. Poteet, W. E. "Gene"

W. E. "Gene" Poteet, age 74, of Yukon, OK passed away Saturday, March 27, 1999 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 18, 1924 in Yeager, OK to Ned and Mary Etta Poteet. He served in the army in WWII in the Philippines at General Douglas Mac Arthur's headquarters. On July 3, 1947 he married Jo Helen Rogers in Seminole, OK. Gene worked in the lumber business in OK for 55 years. He was past president of the Okla. Lumberman's Assoc. and the Civitan Club, a past member of Portland Ave Baptist Church and current member of Trinity Baptist Church in Yukon. Throughout his adult life he was very active in many phases of church work.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Mary Etta, formerly of Belleville, AR. His grandparents were the late James Manning Davidson and Emma Izora Hearn Davidson who are buried in the Riley Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jo Helen Rogers Poteet of the home; six children, JaReesa Bryan and husband Phil of Edmond, Wilson Poteet and wife Belen of Pensacola, FL, Becky Kuhns of OKC, Gordon Poteet of Bethany, Carol Hampton and husband Brent of Sugarland, TX and Roger Poteet of Bethany; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Cox of Lancaster, CA, Eunice Havens of Lawton and Pauline White of Midwest City and a cousin, Walter Davidson and wife, Phyllis of Ft. Tavake Poti, age 71, of Havana passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born September 14, 1945, in America Samoa to the late Poti & Puava Poti.

Alma Potter, 93, of Danville, formerly of McGehee, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2004. She was born December 31, 1910 to the late John and Donie Jones of Old Hickory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Potter, a son, a granddaughter and a grandson.

Survivors are her son, A. D. Potter of Dermott; two daughters, Montine Oliver of McGehee, Alta Hester of Danville; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Billy Potter Jr.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Whitener; six brothers and one sister.

Service will be Thursday, September 13, 2001 at 2:00 p. m. Aly Community Church with Rev. Henry Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Havana Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
