Mcvey, Giles Jackson

Giles Jackson McVey, age 79 of Dardanelle, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born September 21, 1930 in Fort Madison, Iowa, to the late Ivan and Vera Lamm McVey. He was a chicken grower for 21 years after retiring from the United States Air Force, was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Russellville, the Dardanelle Lions Club and the Srudebaker Club in Conway.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul McVey; and one sister, Shirley Hatch.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy "Dot" McVey of Dardanelle; four sons, Steve and Terry McVey both of Fort Madison, Iowa, Roland McVey and wife Angela of Dardanelle and Greg McVey and wife Marci of Ola; one daughter, Linda Morris and husband Ronny of Center Ridge; one brother, Gerald McVey and wife Myrna of West Point, Iowa; nine grand children; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be Friday, February 5, 2010, 10:00 a. m. at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Russellville with Bro. Eddie Rogers officiating. Mcvey, Toy Marie

Toy Marie McVey, age 64 of Dardanelle, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. She was born October 12, 1940 in Dardanelle. Her parents were Barness Hicks Coffey and the late George Thomas Coffey. She retired after 17 years from ALCO and was a homemaker and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Neil McVey and a brother, Garland Dale Coffey.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Hopkins of Dardanelle, mother, Barness Hicks Coffey of Dardanelle; brother, Toby Coffey of Dardanelle; sister Sara Adams of Dardanelle; grandson, Jesse Hopkins, Dardanelle; granddaughter, Carly Hopkins, Dardanelle.

Services were Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle, with Rev. Wylie Jones officiating. Internment in Oakland Cemetery in Atkins by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle. Mead, Charles F.

Charles F. Mead, age 83, of Russellville, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at St Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. A son of the late Edwin Charles and Evelyn Croggen Mead, he was born August 23, 1918, at Washington, D. C. He attended West Point, was a heavy equipment rigger doing work in oil exploration, a United States Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a Mason and attended London First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Longing Mead; three sons, William Mead of Phoenix, Arizona, Bob Mead of College Place, Washington, and Mike Mead of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Carolyn Tana Mead of Russellville and her son, Michael T. McKillips of St. Petersburg Beach, Florida; two step-sons, Maxie Longing of London, and Ernie Longing of Russellville; three step-daughters, JoAnn Canady and Kathy Longing, both of Russellville, and Kay Havens of Conway; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A memorial service was conducted August 1, 2002, at the Shinn Chapel with Rev. Danny Green, Maxie Longing and Bob Mead officiating. Meadors, Mcfayette

-Former County Resident Killed in Auto Accident Near Bluffton -- McFayette Meadors, age 29, Ft Smith, was killed instantly at 1 a.m. today when his auto failed to make a curve and struck the iron banister of a bridge about 2 miles east of Bluffton on Highway 28. Meadors had passed an auto occupied by Troy Guinn and Perry James Jr., both of Gravelly, near the Fourche Valley High School. When they arrived at the bridge they discovered the wreckage and body and reported the accident to officials. The body was taken by Cornwell Funeral Home, after investigation of the accident by county officials.

Meadors was formerly of Yell County and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Phel Meadors, both deceased. He is survived by his wife, who lives in Ft. Smith, and two sisters, Eva Meadors and Marie Meadors, both of Little Rock. Meadows, Maurice "Pete"

Maurice "Pete" Meadows, age 80, of Memphis, TN, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, in Memphis. He was born August 28, 1916 in Yell County, where he lived until he was an adult. He was a member and deacon of Forrest Hill Baptist Church in Germantown, TN and was retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass.

Survivors are his wife, Ava "Penny" Meadows; daughter, Pat Shannon of Porterville, CA; two granddaughters; a niece and nephew and several cousins in Arkansas.

Service was April 9 at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Chapel in Little Rock with interment in the Pine Crest Cemetery near Little Rock with Dr. Walby Owens officiating. Meadows, Wanda Nacoma

EL RENO Funeral services for Wanda Nacoma Meadows, age 84, of El Reno, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. John V. Chennault, pastor officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Garden, 100 W. Strothers, Seminole. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Meadows died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at Manor Care Nursing Center in Warr Acres. She was born Feb. 10, 1918 in Belleville, Ark., Yell County, to James L. and Gertrude Hunt Hays. She was a 1936 graduate of Wolf High School and a 1941 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University. Mrs. Meadows married C. Chalon Meadows on May 24, 1942 in Seminole and taught elementary school in Meeker, Seminole, Pryor, El Reno, and Carlsbad, N.M. She taught elementary school at Lincoln and Hillcrest Public Schools in El Reno for 17 years before she retired in 1983. She enjoyed her family very much, and loved singing and playing the piano anytime, anywhere and various nursing homes. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Meadows is preceded in death by her husband, Chalon; her parents, J.L. and Gertrude Hays; and a brother, Fair Hays.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Slane and husband, Richard, of El Reno; a son, David Meadows and wife, Donita, of Desoto, Texas; three brothers, James L. Hays and wife, Carolyn, of Norman, Bob Hays of wife, Bonnie, of Lyon, Miss., and Mrs. Bonnie Fair Hays of Clarksdale, Miss.; a sister, Ruby Reece of Semiole; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Means, Lori Lea

Mrs. Lori Lea Means, age 33 of Danville, AR died Saturday, March 1, 1997 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Van Buren. She was born February 23, 1964 in Ft. Smith, AR. She was a waitress, homemaker, mother and member of the Danville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley Means of Danville, AR; two sons, Wesley and Eric Means both of Danville; two daughters, Amanda Means of Van Buren, AR and Jamie Lea Means of Danville, AR; her father, Gary Chamblee of Ft. Glen Jonathan Medaris, age 95, of Danville, AR, widow of Libby Medaris, died Monday, August 30, 1999 at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville. He was born October 15, 1906 in Kalispel, Montana to the late Fredrick and Emily Medaris. He was a logger and member of the Wilson Free Will Baptist Church in Belleville, AR.

He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Glen Medaris.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbie Cole of El Paso, TX and Lynn Hayes of Danville, AR; two adopted sons, Raymond Grubbs of Twin Falls, ID and Walter Graham of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Martin Medina-Mondragon, age 24, of Havana, AR died Wednesday, June 23, 1999. He was born March 3, 1975 in Coroneto, GTO, Mexico. He was a lineworker for Wayne Farms in Danville and a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle McConnell; two daughters, Jasmine A. Medina-Mondragon and Selena C. Medina-Mondragon both of the home; one brother, Angel Medina-Mondragon of Mexico; five sisters, Reyna Maya of Grannis, AR, Carmela Medina-Mondragon, Josefin Medina-Mondragon, Adela Medina-Mondragon and Ignacia Medina-Mondragon all of Mexico.

Meek, Carroll Stickney

Col. Carroll Stickney Meek, age 79 of Russellville, formerly of Dardanelle, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at his home. He was born May 24, 1927, at Fort Smith, AR to the late Feder Stickney Meek and Lee Sims Meek Barger.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Baker Meek, and his parents, Feder Stickney Meek and Lee Sims Meek Barger.

He was a graduate of Kemper Military School and College where he was Past President. He graduated from West Point in 1949 and was the first officer to mount artillery on barges during Vietnam, which changed the way battles were fought. He was shot down seven times in Vietnam. Medals he received were Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Meritorious Service, Army Commendation, Army of Occupation and World War II Victory Medal.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Lee Meek (Smith) of Houston, TX; son and daughter-in-law, James and Sharon Meek of Little Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas "Tommy" Linley and Kay Warren Baker; granddaughters, Ariel Alexandra Smith of Fayetteville, AR and McKenzie Shea Meek of Beecher, Illinois.

Meeks, Edgar L.

Edgar L. Meeks, age 85, of Pensacola, Fla., died August 27, 1986 in Pensacola. He was born September 13, 1900, in Belleville, AR., he was raised and educated in Belleville, graduating from the Belleville High School. He was employed by a merchantile store in Arkansas. He moved to Carlsbad in 1936, and began his employment with Bryan Food Stores. In 1944, he began his employment with civil service at Port Hueneme, CA. In 1954, he was transferred to the naval air station at Pensacola, Fla. He retired in 1970, and continued to make his home in Pensacola.

Meeler, James Austin

James Austin Meeler, age 69, of the Fort Smith area, formerly of Danville, AR died April 25, 2004 at UAMS in Little Rock, AR. He was born in Morrilton, AR on July 22, 1934. He was the son of the late Harmon and Ular Meeler. He was an Army Veteran, worked for Shell Oil Company, Firestone, and was City Manager for Danville for 20 years, employed 26 years. He retired July 1997.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Mourot and two nephews Ricky and Eddie Mourot.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tarnera Jean and Ricky Quattlebaum and a grandson Benjamin Austin Quattlebaum of Benton; three nephews, Wayne, Jimmy and Gary Mourot all of Morrilton; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Beverly Meeler of South Milwaukee, WI and cousins and friends.

Meers, Bessie Jo

DARDANELLE - Bessie Jo Meers, age 89 of Dardanelle died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1919, at Wilmott to the late John Frank and Cora Reed Roswell. She is preceded in death by her husband Whitnell Woodside Lawrence. Mrs. Meers was a member of the First Baptist Church to Dardanelle. She was a member of the Arkansas Gold Star Wives and of the Dardanelle Garden club. She was a radio talk show host on KCAB radio and a reporter for the Courier Democrat at one time in her life, She served On We Human Services Commission of the Rim Valley and was active retired Teachers Association. She was also active in PRWE, the organization that helped to develop the Gazebo Park area in downtown Dardanelle. She received her B.A. degree from Arkansas Tech at age 58. She started the first Kindergarten class in Dardanelle, called The Little log Cabin Kindergarten. When kindergarten was state mandated, she became a teacher in the Dardanelle Public Schools.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Frank and Marcia Lawrence of Russellville, Dr. Paul S. Meers of Beirut, Lebanon; David and Mary Ann Meers of Idaho; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dr. Robert Wilson of Heber Springs; a sister, Ruth Waldrop currently living in Russellville; grandsons, Dr. Robert L Wilson of Heber Springs, Matthew Wilson of Miami, Fla., Frank Lawrence Jr. of Little Rock, Dr. George Lawrence of Mountain Home; 12 great- grandchildren. Meinke, Mary Lynn Hancock

Mary Lynn Hancock Meinke, 29, formerly of Danville, AR passed away Monday, June 13, 2005 in Houston, TX. She was born in Danville but grew up in Lake Jackson, TX. She was a poet and aspiring artist with the voice of an angel. She was a free spirit full of joy. Singing and entertaining others brought joy to her life.

She is survived by a beautiful daughter, Jade Sanora Meinke of Metairie, LA and one son, Landon Troy Beeson, of Lake Jackson, TX; her parents, Garry and Mary Hancock of Lake Jackson, TX, formerly of Danville; brother, John Wesley Hancock of Lake Jackson, TX; grandfather, Keith Leon Hancock, Sr. of Danville and many other loving relatives and friends.

Bradley Ray Meirndorf, infant son of Mark Edward and Donna Renee Spears Meirndorf, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, AR.

Meirndorf, Mark Edward

Mark Edward Meirndorf, age 32 of Danville, died Saturday October 1, 2005. He was born in Redding, CA on September 20, 1971. He was an employee of Petit Jean Poultry, a member of the Dutch Creek Fire Department and belonged to the Lake View Full Gospel Church in Perryville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Edward Meirndorf, a son Bradley Meirndorf, and a brother, Alfred Brooks.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Meirndorf, a son Mark E. Mark Edward Meirndorf, age 32 of Danville died Saturday October 1, 2005. He was born in Redding, CA on September 20, 1971. He was an employee of Petit Jean Poultry, a member of the Dutch Creek Fire Department and belonged to the Lake View Full Gospel Church in Perryville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Edward Meirndorf, a son Bradley Meirndorf, and a brother, Alfred Brooks.
