McGee, Kathleen Joyce "Kay"

Kay died on August 23rd, 2011 in Los Alamitos, California after a short illness. She was born May 22, 1939 in Pueblo, Colorado and moved to California with her parents, Allen and Lois (Smith) McGee who predeceased her, as a small child. Kay was raised in Long Beach, California being among the first of the graduating classes in each of her schools; Elementary, Junior High and High Schools. She was active in Student Government, student radio and various other school activities. She showed her musical talents being part of the school band and orchestra as well as participating in the Long Beach Junior Concert Band and their various performances. She was also a member of Long Beach all girl's band participating in their numerous parades including Pasadena's Rose Parades. She attended Long Beach City College, Whittier College and graduated from Arizona State University. Although most people say Kay was outgoing, she was a shy person who used her real interest in others to bridge the way. She enjoyed listening to stories, being intrigued with some of the family stories she heard from her Grandparents and other family members as a young child. These stories started her lifetime involvement and research of genealogy, both to answer some of our family history mysteries and help others in their search. Kay had embraced technology / computers in early days, using the Internet to greatly expand both her genealogy search and gaining a wonderful network of fellow researchers and newly found family.

Kay is survived by her sisters, Karen McGee and Sharon Kalionzes, brother-in-law Bill Kalionzes and nephew's Alex (Cindy) and Andrew Kalionzes, Aunt and Uncles and numerous cousins. Under the direction of Rose Hills Company, Whittier, CA. (WWW.YellCountyObits.org,This Obituary was published 2 Sep 2011, On-Line @ Rose Hills Company, Whittier, California. )
