Mrs. Nelia Magness, age 74, of Russellville, died Tuesday, December 15,1987 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. A daughter of the late Foster G. Forrest and the late Floy Elizabeth Peeler Forrest, she was born at Ola, AR. She was a retired employee of the International Shoe Company and was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Fay R. Magness; two sons, Joe Magness of Little Rock and Billy D. Magness of Atkins; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Thomas of Benton and Mrs. Pam Jones of Russellville; three brothers, Charlie Forrest, Odell Forrest and Roy Forrest all of Plainview; two sisters, Mrs. Jewell Partin of Russellville and Mrs. Flora Keener of Benton; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held December 17 at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Russellville, with Rev. Doug Little and Rev. Bob Rackley officiating. Mr. Opal Arthur Magness, age 88, of Benton, AR, formerly of Ola, AR died Friday, December 2, at the Benton Service Center in Benton. He was born July 1, 1906 in Bluffton, AR to the late William and Hattie Phillips Magness. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Bluffton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Hawkins Magness of Ola, AR; son, Bill Magness of Waldo, AR; three daughters, Mary Brothers of Benton, AR, Lillie Rhoades of Bluffton, AR and Ruby Shinn of Dumas, AR; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Virgil Magness, age 79, of Waldron, formerly of Gravelly, died Friday, April 1st at Yell County Hospital in Danville. He was a native of Bluffton, son of the late William and Lillie Cleveland Magness and a member of the Free Will Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Survivors are an aunt, sister-in-laws and cousins.

William Alex Magness, age 93, of Danville, died Thursday, February 17, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a retired farmer and a Methodist.
Survivors include two sons, Glynn Magness of Newport, KY and Jack Magness of Hot Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Dale Poulin of Hot Springs; a half-brother, Opal Magness of Bluffton; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Billy Lee Mahan, age 65 of Plainview, died Saturday, May 21 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Born November 6, 1945 in Danville, he was the son of the late John Franklin and Helen Irene Lipe Mahan. He was a logger for Deltic Timber and was of the Pentecostal Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elbert and Georgia Randall and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jo Ann Mahan; two sons, Michael Allen and David Lee Mahan both of Plainview; three grandchildren, Lakin Michelle Moore and Scott Allen Mahan of Plainview and Brayden Atkins of Ola; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Marie Jones and Bryce William Moore both of Plainview and three brothers and three sisters and many nephews and nieces.

Glenda J. Mahan, 69, of Belleville, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville. She was born August 14, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the retired owner and operator of Glenda's Drapery Shop.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carlos Purdom; step-father, Jimmy Bullington; daughter Shana Mahan; granddaughter, Angel Gaston; and half-sister, Kay Mann.

Jo Ann Mahan, age 66, of Plainview died Monday, May 16, 2016, at UAMS in Little Rock. She was born July 13, 1949, at Danville to the late Elbert and Georgia Blair Randle. She attended the Hilltop Church at Nimrod, she loved traveling, site seeing, gardening, dancing and most of all she loved her family and dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Billy Lee Mahan.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Allen Mahan and David Lee Mahan both of Nimrod; three grandchildren, Lakin Michelle Moore, Scott Allen Mahan both of Nimrod, Brayden Atkins of Ola; great grandchildren, Kayleigh Marie Jones of Ola, Bryce William Moore of Clarksville.

John Franklin Mahan, age 82, of Ola, AR died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. He was born August 15, 1915 in Casa, AR to the late Arthur and Maggie Rainey Mahan. He was a retired sawmill worker, an Army Veteran, 50 year 32nd degree Mason and member of the Ola Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lipe Mahan.

John Robert Mahan, age 41, of Houston AR passed this life September 16, 2014 at his home. He was born June 23, 1973 in North Little Rock, AR. He was the son of Charles and Linda Mahan. Shana Nicole Mahan, 25, passed away November 13, 2010. Born on January 21, 1985 in Little Rock to Wayne and Glenda Purdom Mahan, she was a 2001 graduate of Sylvan Hills High School and a member of The Apostolic Church in North Little Rock. Shana's life was spent giving worship and praise to the Lord.
She is survived by her parents of Danville; siblings, Starla Thomas (Larry) of North Little Rock, Kevin Childs (Joy) of Jonesboro, Sherry Bland (Greg), Donna George (John) and Karen Gaston (Steve), all of Belleville; grandmother, Helen Bullington of Higden; aunt, Carolyn Foster of Cabot; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Helen Mahan and grandfather, Jimmy Bullington.

Mrs. Chilili Mahon, age 75, of New Blaine, AR, widow of Leonard Mahon, died Friday, July 2, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville, AR. She was born April 12, 1924 in Leslie, Searcy County, Arkansas to the late William Noble and Floy Griffin Thomas. She was a homemaker and mother.
She is survived by two sons, Roy Mahon of Heber Springs, AR and Howard Mahon of Bay City, TX; three daughters, Lillian Elmore of Radcliff, KY, Emma Mullican of New Blaine, AR and Carolyn Brammer of La Porte, IN; one brother, Gordon Thomas of Russellville, AR; one sister, Atha Kelley of Pottsville, AR; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Hal Mahon, Jr., age 79 of Alva, OK, formerly of Plainview and Birta, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Share Medical Center in Alva, OK. He was born February 16, 1926 at Birta to the late Hal Mahon, Sr. and Nicy Lillian Lewis.
He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Flo Ann and all his siblings. He served in the Navy for two years then went into construction where he helped in building Bull Shoals Lake and Table Rock Lake Dams. While doing this, he met his wife Martha Bell. To this union three children were born Flo Ann, Hal Don and Ricky Claude Mahon. After construction, he worked for the State of Arkansas Highway Department. He moved to Alva, OK1 in 1996.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Hal Don and Barbara Mahon of Alva, OK, Ricky Claude and Regina Mahon of Alva, OK; five grandsons and two granddaughters.

Kevin Clyde Mainhart, age 46, of Dardanelle passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017. He was a wonderful, loving husband, a proud father, and caring son and brother who was taken away and is now in the presence of God. He was born September 15, 1970, in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania to Ron and Evelyn Winters Mainhart. He was a member of Dardanelle First Baptist Church. He was also a United States Air Force Veteran of Desert Storm, retired from West Memphis Police Department, and a Lt. Deputy for Yell County Sheriff s Office.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Clyde and Audrey Winters, paternal grandfather Albert Mainhart.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Holt Mainhart and son Lucas of Dardanelle; son, Cody and his wife Jessie of Lowell; parents, Ron and Evelyn Mainhart of Russellville; one brother, Keith, his wife Angie, and their son Kade of Russellville; one niece, Kileigh; two nephews, Keaton and Eli; paternal grandmother Esther Mainhart of Pennsylvania; and in-laws, Mike and Ann Craft of Dardanelle.

Edna Dell Majors, age 83, of Perry, Arkansas passed away on July 19, 2010. She was born March 1, 1927 at Belleville, AR to Lee and Jennie Moudy. Mrs. Majors was a homemaker, retired cosmetologist and a retired Postmaster of 27 years. She was a charter member of Second Baptist Church in Perryville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Jane Moudy, Anna Belle Moudy, and Elnora Sherman and grandson Kevin Bradley Majors.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph L. Majors of the home; daughter Linda Scroggin (Jon) of Little Rock; sons Danny Majors and Mike Majors of Perry and Gary Majors (Mary Ann) of Perryville; grandchildren Matt Scroggin, Stacey Scroggin, Gennifer Majors, Josh Majors and Isaac Majors; brothers Opal Lee Moudy of Jonesboro, Dr. Bob Moudy of Chaffee, Mo., Larry Moudy of Valley View Texas, plus many nieces and nephews.

Body of Sgt. Elwin Majors Discovered- Mr. and Mrs. Joe Majors of Belleville received a letter from the War Department last week telling them that the body of their son, Sgt. Elwin L. Majors had been discovered - nearly seven years after he had been reported missing in action. Mr. and Mrs. Majors received word in July, 1944 that Sgt. Majors, then 25 years of age and a gunner on a B-24, was missing in action when his plane was shot down over Germany on July 7. They had not received any further word from the government until May of 1950 when he was reported killed in action. German records had been found in May telling of the plane being shot down. Upon further investigation, Sgt. Majors remains were found in an isolated grave located in the Biechhammer Forest in Poland. They were disinterred by American Graves Registration personnel and removed to the U. S. Military Cemetery Neuvilleen Condroz near Liege, Belgium. Mr. Majors said that the body will be sent home for burial at Belleville. The Majors had learned that seven of the 10-man crew on the plane had parachuted down, were captured by the Germans, and returned home after the war. The German records which were found said that two men, including Sgt. Majors, were on the plane when it crashed. Majors was on his 39th mission when killed. Funeral services for Sgt. Elwin L. Majors will be held in the Baptist Church at Belleville at 7 p. m. Sunday, April 29, and burial will be in Upper Spring Creek cemetery. His remains, found with those of a comrade who died with him, in an isolated grave in the Blechhammer Forest in Poland early this year, will reach Belleville Thursday morning
Sgt. Majors, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Majors of Belleville, was born at Havana on May 28, 1919. He was a graduate of Belleville High School and attended Arkansas Polytechnic College. In 1939 he married Marcelle Payne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Payne of Belleville, He was with the 778th Squadron, 464th bomb group, 15th Air Force and was stationed at Foggia, Italy at the time of his death. He was killed when the plane, a B24 bomber on which he was serving as flight engineer, was hit by flak while bombing an oil refinery near Ober Glogau, Germany and crashed July 7, 1944.
Other members his family surviving him besides those mentioned above are a daughter, Anna Grace of Russellville; four sisters, Mrs. Buddy Thompson, Carlsbad, Mew Mexico, Mrs. E. D. Buckman, Chama, New Mexico, Mrs. E. L. Fair, Jr. El Dorado, and Iris of Belleville; and four brothers, Leland of Memphis, Tenn. J. L. Jr. of Forrest City, John of Ft Wayne, Indiana and Harold of Belleville. Harold Majors, Sr. 84, a longtime Belleville mail carrier, died last Sunday at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He worked for the U. S. Postal Service from 1947 until 1982 over a span of 35 years and carried the mail in Belleville for 33 straight years. Majors served in World War II in the Army Air Corps serving in the Pacific under the command of General McArthur. His duty carried him to several of the islands in that War Theater. Majors was a second generation mail carrier. His father, J. L. Majors, first started delivering the mail in Havana in 1918 and 1922 he began delivering the mail in the Belleville area. He retired in 1949. Harold Majors began delivering the mail the next day in Belleville after his father retired. Harold retired in 1982 ending 64 straight years the mail was carried by him and his father in the Belleville and Havana area. He actually began his postal career after returning from the service after World War II when he worked for the Railway Mail Service sorting mail on the Rock Island Railroad mail car between Booneville and McAlester, Ok. from 1947 to 1949. When he retired in 1982, Majors estimated that he had driven 1, 000, 000 miles, used over 40 vehicles, bought 400 new tires, changed over 1, 000 flats and never missed a delivery day from Monday through Saturday. He commented that some days did not pay as he had five flats on one day but only had three spares. Another time, he said one of the mounts broke on his motor, the engine fell sideways breaking an oil line inside the radiator; then the transmission began pumping fluid into the radiator and then pumped coolant back into the transmission. That incident cost him a transmission an almost a motor as well. Majors said when he retired that he would not have traded his experiences for anything especially the hundreds of families he knew along his route. "I watched kids grow up from the time they were born to when they had their own families ".

Harold Wright Majors, Sr. age 84 of Belleville died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Chambers Memorial Hospital at Danville. Born March 19, 1921 in Havana, he was the son of the late Joseph Ladd and Mattie Lampkins Majors. He was a member of the John Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Belleville for 75 years, where he served as deacon. He graduated from Belleville High School, was a WWII Army Corps, serving in the Pacific, and retired after 33 years with the U. S. Postal Service.

Mrs. Joe L. Majors, age55, of Belleville, died at her home Saturday, July 5, 1952 after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Majors has spent most of her life in or near Belleville. She was a member of the Grace Memorial Church, Home Demonstration Club, VFW Auxiliary and Rural Letter Carries Auxiliary.

John Fletcher Majors, Sr., 80, died December 24, 2011, at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was born June 24, 1931, at Stafford, Arkansas to Joseph Ladd Majors, Sr. and Mattie May Lampkins Majors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Leland Matthew Majors, Elwin Leroy Majors, and Harold Wright Majors, Sr. John was a Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Danville where he served as a deacon. He was also a mason. He was a retired owner of Universal Services, Inc. and a farmer.
He is survived by his wife Doris Jean Majors of the home; two children, Jeanne Baker and husband, John of Danville, John Majors Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Waldron; five grandchildren, Tonya Stanley and husband, Bob of Danville, Jennifer Chambers and husband Brad of El Paso, John Charles (Rocky) Zieammerman and wife Tara of Dardanelle, Joseph Harris Majors and Amy Valentine Majors of Waldron; five great-grandchildren, Hunter and Grace Ann Tucker of Hot Springs, Gage Chambers of El Paso, Zachery and Lydia Elise Stanley of Danville; four sisters, Elise Thompson of Carlsbad, NM, Pauline Fair of Little Rock, Francis Buckman of Dewitt, and Iris Susie Christy of George Town, Texas; one brother, J.L. Majors, Jr. of Perry; sister-in-law, Pauline Harris of Danville, sister-in-law, Mary Monroe and husband Joe of Danville; numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much and a host of great friends.
Pallbearers include Rick Wiser, Ron Wiser, Mitch Tate, Butch Bird, Dr. Forrest Moudy, and Butch Bowerman. He was born July 23, 1928 on Chickalah Mountain, Arkansas to the late Joseph Ladd & Mattie May Lamkpins Majors SR. He was a Charter Member of the Perryville Second Baptist Church. Joe retired as a station agent for Rock Island Railroad.

Joseph Ladd Majors Sr., aged 76, of Belleville died Tuesday, February 21. He was a member of the Dr. John Grace Memorial Baptist Church, The National Rural Letter Carriers Association, National Association of Retired Civil Employees and a Mason. He was a rural delivery postman for 30 years.
Survivors are four sons, Leland Majors of Memphis, Harold Majors of Belleville, Joseph L. Majors Jr. of Perry and John Majors of Danville, four daughters, Mrs. Polly Fair of Pine Bluff, Mrs. Elsie Thompson of New Mexico, Mrs. Francis Buckman of Plainview and Mrs. Iris Christy of Texas; two brothers, John Majors of Oklahoma and F.D. Majors of Dardanelle; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Stafford of Oklahoma; and twenty grandchildren.

Mrs. Majors, Longtime County Teacher, Dies - Rosiland Marguerite Waters Majors, of Little Rock and Belleville, who taught four generations in Oklahoma, Little Rock, Danville, Fourche Valley, Belleville and Havana, died Friday, June 19, 2009. She taught school for 69 years, and retired from Western Yell County High School in 2008 and moved to Little Rock. Her teaching career is one of the longest ever in Yell County and in the state of Arkansas. She was an inspiration for thousands of her high school students especially in Belleville and Havana (now Western Yell) School Districts. Began Teaching In 1939 Mrs. Majors was born in 1919 in Marietta, Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a major in home economics and a minor in business education. She began her teaching career before World War II, in 1939. Her father, R. L. Waters, was the first superintendent when the old Havana school building was brand new, in the early 1920s. She started to school at Havana the one that was torn down this year) at five years old and attended to the 6th grade, because her father was the superintendent. At age 15 she attended Arkansas Tech then went to college at Oklahoma State. She did not have to pay out of state tuition there because that was where she was born. Then she lived in Little Rock for two years and worked at Central High School. But Belleville was really her home because that was where her parents lived. Her dad was not only superintendent when the Havana school was built, he was also superintendent at Belleville, and held the position of County Superintendent, meaning, among other duties, the family had to regularly visit every school in the county.
Married In 1949 She and Harold, Sr. married in 1949, she was teaching in Little Rock and he was working for the U. S. Postal Train Mail Service. Harold took his dads position as rural mail carrier when he retired. Then Congressman Brooks Hays was helpful in that happening. Marguerite was always a devout Christian, and she always delighted in sharing the gospel. She was a member and church pianist of John Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Belleville, for 60 years. Rosiland Marguerite Waters Majors, of Little Rock and Belleville, died Friday, June 19, 2009. Marguerite was born September 19, 1919 in Marietta, OK to the late Robert F. and Ola OKelly Waters. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a degree in home economics and a minor in business education. She had a heart for children and teaching. During her 69 year teaching career, she taught in Oklahoma, Little Rock, Danville, Fourche Valley, Belleville and Havana. Donald (Don) Monroe Malick, 60, of Mt. George, AR passed away Monday, September 3, 2007. He was born February 25, 1947, in Morrilton, AR the son of the late Monroe D. and Katie Lynn McGuire Malick. He was a US Army Veteran of Viet Nam. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Malick and two grandchildren.

DANVILLE - Drexel Kenneth Malloy, age 65, of Danville died Sunday, February 8, 1987. He was a retired welder, son of the late Jormon and May Snow Malloy, and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one brother, Raymond Olinghouse of Illinois; two sisters, Myna Roper of California and Selma Almond of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
