Wilson, Clifton C.

Clifton C. Wilson, Jr., 24, a former resident of Danville, was killed by a hitch hiker he had picked up on September 14. Wilson, an inspector for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture at a poultry plant in Gonzales, Texas was being transferred to a new job in Clinton, Okla. Ted Husser, publisher of the Jonesville Booster located at Jonesville, La., where Wilson's parents live, reported the following details regarding the killing: Wilson planned to stop at Jonesville enroute to his new job and left Gonzales September 14. He picked up Francis A. Clifton, 25, of Aberdeen, Ohio near Beaumont, Texas. As they neared Jonesville, Wilson told Clifton he was nearly home and Clifton pulled a gun and ordered Wilson to turn back toward Alexandria, La. near Glenmore, La., early in the morning of September 15, Clifton ordered Wilson to turn off on a gravel road, then walked him into the woods about 175 yards, where he shot him in the back of the head with a 22. pistol. Clifton took Wilson's car and went to Ohio, where he visited his wife and children, and from there to Detroit, Mich. At Detroit, he was picked up on a concealed weapons charge and held in jail. Investigation of the Louisiana car, and a report from Jonesville that Wilson was missing led to Clifton's confession of the killing. Clifton was flown back to Louisiana, where he led officers to the body about 6 a.m. on September 25, 10 days after the killing. Wilson's parents had not reported him missing until September 19, since they knew he was changing jobs. Clifton, who is on parole from prison in Ohio, is being held in Jail at Alexandria pending filing of formal charges. Wilson, Elton L. (Dr.)

Dr. Elton Wilson, of Carden Bottom; one of the best known and most popular physicians of Yell County, died suddenly last Thursday afternoon while making a professional call. Dr. Wilson had complained of feeling badly for several days prior to his death, but no serious consequences were expected and his sudden death was therefore a severe shock. Accompanied by his wife he had called on a patient and was in the act of preparing some medicine when stricken by heart failure, his death being almost instantaneous. Dr. Wilson, who was about 55 years of age, was born and reared in this city. He was a graduate ol Tulane Medical University, New Orleans, and for the past twenty years or more had practiced medicine in Carden Bottom. It was not the writer's good fortune to know Dr. Wilson intimately, but from the many splendid tributes paid to his generosity, his charity and his great love for humanity, we know him to have been a good, true man. And what higher encomium can be paid to any man? The night was never too cold and dark or the way too long for him to respond to the need and suffering of his fellows. While at his post of duty he met the Grim Reaper, engaged in a work of mercy, alleviating the sufferings of a patient, he received the final summons and paid the last great debt we each must pay. Dr.

Wilson is survived by his wife, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Matt Thomas, of Cumberland City, Tenn., Mrs. Will Sparling, of Little Rock, and Burke and Floyd Wilson of Little Rock. (WWW.YellCountyObits.org,Yell County Record Newspaper, Danville, Arkansas, Obituary was published on 1914)
