Wehunt, Estle J. (E. J. )

Dr. Estle J. (E. J.) Wehunt, P. H. D., 81, passed away on October 20, 2009 at his home in Avondale Estates, GA from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. E. J. was born on October 8, 1928, to Coy Marcus and Nancy Hicks) Wehunt in Briggsville, Arkansas. After graduating from Ola High School in 1946, E. J. served 4 years in the U. S. Navy. Upon discharge, he attended the University of Arkansas, receiving a Bachelor Degree in General Agriculture and a Master's Degree in Agronomy. He then attended Louisiana State University, graduating with a Doctorate Degree in Plant Pathology in 1958. E. J. began his career as a Nematologist, working for the United Fruit Company in La Lima, Honduras. After returning to the United States in 1967, he worked for the USDA in Byron, Georgia and then in Booneville, Arkansas. After retiring in 1989, E. J. and his wife Lena, moved to Perry, Georgia and enjoyed their retirement playing golf and serving for several years on the Board of Directors at the Perry Country Club. E. J. was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather and brother.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Reed Wehunt; son and daughter-in-law, Coy and Karen Wehunt; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Crowe; grandchildren, Kirk and Lisbeth Barker, along with a brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p. m. on November 5, 2009 in Briggsville, AR, officiated by his nephew, David Reed. Wehunt, Fay Malcolm Fm

Mr. Fay Malcolm FM Wehunt, age 70, of Carlsbad, NM. died July 6, 1995 at Guadalupe Medical Center. He was born April 24, 1925 to parents, Coy and Nancy Wehunt in Aplin, AR. He grew up in Yell County, AR. He met Norma Pugh in Dumas and they were united in marriage October 18, 1952 in Caraway, AR. They moved to Carlsbad in 1953, he worked for U. S. Borax for 22 years and for Kerr McGee for 15 years. After retiring from the mines he became the Go-For for his wife's cake decorating business and he changed his title to the purchasing agent. After retiring from the cake business he became co-owner of the Road Runner Car Wash. He was a member of the Blodgett Street Baptist Church.

Survivors wife, Norma Pugh Wehunt of Carlsbad; two sons, Mark Wehunt and Lynn Wehunt both of Carlsbad; one daughter, Sue Basking of Carlsbad; his mother, Nancy Wehunt Montgomery of Carlsbad; one brother, E. J. Wehunt of Perry, GA; four grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.

Services were July 10 at the West Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Wolf of Blodgett Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Carlsbad Cemetery. Pallbearers were Howard Hearn, David Leos, Martin Navarrete, Ivan Ruiz, Michael Sowers, Mark Crow, Dale Murray, David Derrington and Leon Looney. Honorary all old friends and co-workers U. S. Wehunt, Laura Leah

Mrs. Laura Leah Wehunt, age 48, died January 8 at her home in Hot Springs. Mrs. Wehunt formerly of Yell County had resided in Hot Springs for the past37 years. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and the Hot Springs Chapter No. 69, Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, Jake Wehunt; four sons, S. Sgt Perry Jake Wehunt, Camp Chaffee; Glynn Bill, Rex and Max all of Hot Springs; a sister, Mrs. Ray Spencer, Rover, three brothers, Otis, Hays and A. J. Wehunt, Lena (Reed)

Lena Reed Wehunt, 83, passed away in her sleep on July 8, 2013 at her home in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Lena was the youngest of 11 children, born on February 26, 1930, to James Reed and Harriet Barrows Reed, in Aly, Arkansas. After retiring in 1989, Lena and E.J. moved to Perry, Georgia, and spent their time playing golf, enjoying family and being active in the church.

Lena was preceded in death by her hsband, father, mother, seven brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Coy and Karen Wehunt; daughter and son-in- law, Nancy and Dennis Crowe; grandson and granddaughter, Kirk and Lisbeth Barker; great grandson, Gavin Barker; three sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm. Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the chapel of Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Home. A private burial will be Sunday, July 14, in Briggsville AR. Wehunt, Marie

Marie Wehunt, age 85 of Danville, died Thursday, August 29, 2002 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. Mrs. Wehunt was born October 30, 1916 in Danville, Arkansas to the late William Solomon and Roxie Ann Crabb Power. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Bertie Power and Opal Simpson and a granddaughter, Donna Maughn.

Survivors are her husband of 53 years, Vernon Wehunt; sons and daughters-in-law, Loyd and Helen Maughn of Danville, AR, Edward and Yvonne Maughn of San Jose, California; a daughter, Mary Hograve of Troy, Ohio; a sister, Dovie Hefner of Danville; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday, August 31, 2002, 10:00 a. m. at First Baptist Church, Danville with Rev. Hulon Wiser officiating. Interment was in Earl Ladd Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville. Wehunt, Perry J.

Perry J. Wehunt, 39, died August 23 of a heart attack at his home in San Antonio, Texas. Wehunt is a former resident of Fourche Valley, and only recently retired as a staff sergeant after 21 years service in the army.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nell Wehunt, San Antonio, two sons, Ronnie of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Joe of Benton, his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wehunt, Hot Springs, three brothers. Bill of Atlanta, Ga. Wehunt, Vernon Allen

Vernon Allen Wehunt, age 84 of Danville, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was born January 24, 1919 in Waveland, Arkansas to the late James Brittian and Mary Frances Self Wehunt. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Wehunt; a son, Loyd Maughn and a granddaughter, Donna Maughn.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Hograve of Wilson, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Yvonee Maughn of San Jose, California; daughter in law, Hellen Maughn of Danville, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren.

Services were Friday, December 19, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. Jamie Staley officiating. Interment was in Earl Ladd Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville. Weir, Rheba Nora

Rheba Nora Weir, 87, of London passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Russellville, AR. She was born October 26, 1922 in the Augsburg community outside of London to Dora Ethel Pless Bauman and Gustaf A. Bauman, both of whom have preceded her in death. During her life, Mrs. Weir was very active in Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a founding member of the Pless Community Extension Home-makers Club, a Pope County Cattlewoman, and a member of the Gideon's International Auxiliary.

Also preceding her in death was James H. Moore, Jr. her first son-in-law married to Linda Paulette Weir.

Mrs. Weir is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul Edison Weir, two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Joe Williams of Choctaw, OK, and Anita and Arnie Burk of London; three granddaughters and their husbands, Kim and Nathan Knight of Clarksville, Brittney and Lance Garner of Russellville, and Jamie and Brent Abbott of London; two grandsons and their wives, Michael and Misty Moore, and A. J. and Natalie Burk, both of Russellville; and fifteen great grandchildren, Campbell, Payton, Moriah, Hannah, Caraline, Zach, Haley, Taylor, Carter, Brooks, Harmony, Tori, Brenna, Cate, and Sydney.

Funeral service was May 17, 2010 at the Mt. Carmel Cumberland Presbyterian Church north of London in the Pless Community. Burial was in Mt. Welch, Eliza Ann (Bagwell) (Mrs.)

Mrs. Eliza Ann Bagwell Welch, born at Banner, Miss., December 28, 1861, died at Havana, January 15, 1941. She united with the Missionary Baptist church at the age of 13. United in marriage to the late G. F. Welch in 1886. To this union were born nine children, of which five survive her: Hermon, Little Rock; Jim, Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs. Edna Westherall, Paso Robles, California; Mrs. Lillian Waters, Waynesboro, Miss., and Mrs. Lucille Rogers of the home, also there are nine grandchildren.

Welch, Evelyn Butler

HAVANA - Mrs. Evelyn Butler Welch, age 58, of Havana, wife of. J. B. Welch, a retired employee of the state Home Extension Service, died Wednesday. (June 14) Mrs. Welch was a member of Havana Presbyterian Church.

Others surviving are a son, Jeff Welch of Sikeston. Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Engelberger of West Germany, Mrs. Caroline Kestner of Mena and Miss Rebecca Welch of North Little Rock; a brother, William Butler of Prospect. Tenn.; two sister; Mrs. Helen Groce of Benton and Mrs. Mildred Rogers of El Dorado and four grandchildron.

Welch, Ewell Ferguson

Ewell Ferguson Welch, age 86, of Havana, AR died Saturday, August 19, 2006. He was born October 2, 1919 in Havana, AR, he was the son of the late Jeff D. Sr. and Maude Ferguson Welch. He was a 1937 Havana High School graduate; Arkansas Tech University and University of Arkansas graduate. He was elder and treasurer of Havana Presbyterian Church and 32nd Degree Mason and was currently serving as Worshipful Master of Christian Lodge in Belleville. His many accomplishments include an Army veteran; Agriculture teacher; cattle and poultry farmer; charter member and President of the WYC Ruritan; Charter member of Mt. View Lion's Club; member and President, Chamber Memorial Hospital, 17 years; member and President Havana School Board, member of Yell County Farm Bureau board; member Yell County Farm Services Agency committee.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Reba Welch.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lavoy Martin Welch; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Larry Hall of Fayetteville, AR; son and daughter-in-law, Ewell Ray and Deanna Welch of No. Little Rock, AR; brother, J. D. Welch of Havana, AR; grandchildren, Brian and Denise Hall, Sarah Hall, Wesley Welch, David and Natalie Sims and two great-grandchildren, Preston and Parker Hall.

Funeral service was August 22 at the Danville Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Havana Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. Welch, Ewell Havana Community Leader

Ewell Welch, age 86, of Havana, a longtime community leader in Havana and Yell County, died Saturday, August 19, 2006. Welch was a longtime Agricultural teacher and a cattle and poultry farmer. He graduated from Havana in 1937 and was a charter member and president of Western Yell County Ruritan Club, member of Yell County Farm Bureau, and a member of the Yell County Farm Services Agency Committee. He was an Army veteran, and a member of Chambers Memorial Hospital for 17 years, serving as chairman of the board for many years and a member and president of Havana School Board.

Welch, James Ray

James Ray Welch, age 75, of Danville, AR died Thursday, March 12, 1998 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. He was born February 17, 1923 at Havana, AR son of the late R. L. and Orpha Ray Welch. He was retired from Continental Grain; he was a Marine Corp Veteran of World War II, having served in four major companies with the 2nd and 3rd Raider Battalions. He was a corporate pilot, past president of the Arkansas Egg Council and a member of the Rotary International.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wright Welch; four sons and daughters-in-law, James Ray and Carlene Welch of Rogers, Jeffery Paul and Jody Welch of Helena, MT, John and Diane Welch of Hot Springs, AR and Justin and Belinda Welch of Sheridan, AR; one sister, Christene Dearrington of Tulsa, OK; nine granddaughters; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was March 14, 1998 at the Danville United Methodist Church with Rev. Wade Shownes officiating. Burial was in the Havana Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville, AR. Welch, Jeff D.

Jeff D. Welch, Jr., age 94, of Fayetteville died Sunday, September 30, 2012, in Fayetteville. He was born January 22, 1918, in Havana, Arkansas, to Jeff Davis Welch Sr. and Maude Ferguson Welch. He was a World War II veteran; a longtime Vocational Agriculture teacher; and an Elder in the Havana Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Butler Welch, his parents; one sister, Reba Laverne Welch and one brother, Ewell Ferguson Welch.

He is survived by three daughters, Martha Ann Engelberger and her husband Charles of Springfield, Virginia; Caroline Kestner and her husband Rodney of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Rebecca Jane Doncer and her husband Richard of North Little Rock, Arkansas; one son, Jeff Butler Welch and his wife Sherian L. of Jacksonville, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Charles Engelberger III, John Engelberger, Kevin Kestner, Brent Kestner, Lauren Meeks, Phillip Doncer, Jeff Welch II, Olivia Welch, and eight great grandchildren. Family will receive guests 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday, October 5, 2012 at Havana Presbyterian Church.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Western Yell County Church of Christ in Havana, Arkansas with burial at Havana Cemetery under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville, Arkansas. Welch, Justin Franklin

Justin Franklin Welch of Sheridan, Arkansas, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Sheridan at the age of 48 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born June 28, 1957 at Denton, Texas the son of the late James Ray and Mary Francis Wright Welch. He was a member of Harmony Primitive Baptist Church at Donaldson. "Coach" Welch taught in Newark and Perryville before moving to Sheridan in 1986. He was currently the Senior High boys track and cross country coach, assistant Junior High football coach and was the Art teacher at Sheridan Junior High. In 1994 and 1995 he led the Senior High boys track team to back to back State Championships. He was also a member of the Arkansas Coaches Association. Most of all, "Coach" Welch was a loving husband and a very special "Daddy" to his girls.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife Belinda Gail Becker Welch; three daughters, Whitney Rae, Willow Eve and Wynn Nicole Welch all of Sheridan; three brothers, James Ray Welch of Rogers, Jeffrey Paul Welch of Helena, Montana and John Steven Welch of Lake Hamilton; aunt and uncle: Betty and Mike Fry of Clinton, OK, father and mother-in-law: Joe and Ruth Becker of Russellville, also numerous nieces and nephews, students, and friends.

Funeral services was Friday at First Baptist Church of Sheridan with Bro. Neal Phalan, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Sheridan. Lavoy Martin Welch, age 86, of Havana passed away December 23, 2013 at Salem Place Nursing & Rehab in Conway. She was born June 23, 1927 in Danville, AR to the late John Wiley & Dailia Mae Haney Shinn Martin. She was a retired teacher from Western Yell County School.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ewell F. Welch and brother Virgil Shinn.

Welch, March (Mary) Francis

March (Mary) Francis Welch, age 77 of Danville, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Chambers Memorial Hospital. She was born May 24, 1925, in Butler, Oklahoma to the late Marvin Lucian and Clara A. Pope Wright. Mrs. Welch taught 3rd grade for 31 years, most of those in the Danville School District. She was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teacher's Association and the Danville United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Welch.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, James Ray and Carlene Welch of Rogers, AR, Jeffery Paul and Jody Welch of Helena, Montana, John and Diane Welch of Hot Springs, AR, Justin and Belinda Welch of Sheridan, AR; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and David Fry of Clinton, OK; sister-in-law, Christine Dearrington of Tulsa, OK; 9 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 5 great grandchildren.

Maude E. Welch, age 93, of Havana, died Wednesday, February 12, 1986 at Yell County Hospital in Danville. She was a former teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff D. Welch, and a daughter, Reba L. Welch,

Survivors include two sons, J. D. Welch and Ewell Welch, both of Havana; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Shelby of Danville and Audie Moffett of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Welch, R. L. "Lester"

R. L. "Lester" Welch, age 98, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Havana, died Tuesday, January 6, 1987 at Oakdale Nursing Home at Tulsa. He was a native of Havana, son of the late James and Martha Walkup Welch, and a retired employee of Joe Ray Poultry Co.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Orpha Ray Welch.

Survivors include a son, James Welch of Danville; a daughter, Mrs. R. E. (Christine) Dearrington of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a. m. Friday at Havana Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Ragsdale. Burial will be in Havana Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service of Danville. Baldwyn: Eva Elizabeth Sheppard Weldon, 84, died Saturday 19 May 1990 at the Baldwyn Medical Unit. She was a homemaker, a baby sitter and the widow of Marshal J. S. Weldon. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and Eastern Star.

Services will be at 2 p. m. today at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Riley, the Rev. Jerry Osburn and the Rev. Sammy Coker officiating. Burial will be in the Baldwyn Masonic Cemetery.

Slim Weldon Dies Friday -- Rites Held Sunday At Waters Chapel, Baldwyn -- J. S. (Slim) Weldon, age 73, died at 10:10 p. m. Friday 7 Mar 1975 at Baldwyn Medical Unit.

Weldon, Milas

Man Dies While Driving Truck - Milas Weldon, 57, of Waveland died of a heart attack early this morning while driving his pickup truck on the Lone Pine road north and east of Danville. Mrs. Weldon, who was riding in the truck with him, said that he dented a fender as he crossed a bridge and said that he felt funny. She told him to pull over and stop for a while, but before he could do it he slumped over the wheel. The truck went through a fence and out into a pasture. Mrs. Weldon was not hurt. Services for Nolan D. Weldon, 81, of Oxford will be Wednesday at 11 a. m. at Gray Brown Service & Mortuary Crematory Chapel in Anniston with Rev. Jerry Foote and Dr. Dave Roberts officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Gray Brown Service & Mortuary Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Weldon died in Alexander City.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Kent Weldon; two daughters and their husbands, Renaie and Jim Farish of Greensville, S. C. and Kimberly and Barry Owens of Greer, S. C.; a son, Danny Weldon of Oxford; two step-sons, Don Kent of Munford and Ronald Kent and his wife, Loretta, of Heflin; a brother, Sam Weldon of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Edna Knowles of Oxford; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a caregiver Kevin Whorton.

Pallbearers will be Jim Farish, Barry Owens, Brad Owens, Justin Owens, Lee sterns and Mike Gallahar. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Auditorium Sunday School Class of Gladeview Baptist Church of Saks.

Mr. Weldon, an Arkansas native, had lived in Baldwyn, Miss. before moving to Anniston. He joined the Navy during World War II and served in the South Pacific. He owned and operated the No Me Bowling Lanes for 25 years until his retirement 20 years ago.

Mr. Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, O'Dell and Eva Weldon; a sister, Eva Bowden; and a stepdaughter, Margaret Higginbotham. Weldon, Ruby Jewel (Morphew)

Ruby Jewel Weldon, 90, of Victoria, passed away January 16, 2012. She was born November 21, 1921, in Summerfield, Oklahoma, to the late Rhina "Lucy" Pepper and Melvin Franklin Morphew. Her legacy of love includes caring for many family members and giving up her own needs to make their lives more comfortable. She leaves many memories of sacrifices she made for others.

She truly lived as Christ commanded: "Love others as I have loved you." She is survived by her sisters, Mamie Murphy of Coker Creek, TN, Orangie Kelley of Morristown, TN, Hazel Dacke of Brazoria, and Grace Beaty of Crosby. She also leaves seven children and their spouses, Glen and Patsy Weldon of Victoria, Lois and Bob Yawn of Havana, AR, LaVerne and Harol Lowery of Havana, AR, Elaine and Carl Cole of Collins, MS, Calvin Weldon of Seabrook, Margaret and Jim Greenfield of Vancouver, WA, and David and Cathey Weldon of Victoria. She is "Granny" to 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She joins her parents and brothers, Charles Edward Cradic, Lloyd Allen Cradic and Lawrence "Jack" Cradic; her daughter, Louise Bitner; and her husband, Victor Weldon in their heavenly home.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Moore's Chapel Church with Bro. Funeral arrangements are pending at Myers Chapel for Walter Weldon of Poplar who died this morning in a local hospital.

Survivors include his wife Ruby. Graveside service for Walter Cecil Weldon was held today at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Terry Williams of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Myers Chapel.

Weldon, 80, died Tuesday 19 Apr 1983 in a local hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Arkansas and a Porterville resident for 42 years. He was employed as an agricultural laborer.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Weldon; two step-sons, Grady Paul of Jefferson, Ore. Frank Welker, age 64, died at his home in Rover of Hodgkins's disease November 5, 1954 after a year's illness. He moved to Plainview in 1912 and has spent the remainder of his life in this section of the county. He was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Quinton Red Eye Welker, age 64, of Rover, AR, died Sunday, December 2, 1990 at a Little Rock Hospital. Wells, Benjamin Wallace

Benjamin Wallace Wells, age 92, of Dardanelle, AR died Monday, May 15, 2006 at Dardanelle Hospital. He was born May 24, 1913 at Yell County to the late Roe and Mary Frances Workman Wells. He was a member of the Centerville First Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Wells, parents, a son, Wallace Ray Wells, grandson, Brian Wells, brother Roscoe Wells and son-in-law, J. D. Parker.

Survivors include two daughters, Ema Lea Coffey of Dardanelle, Frances Parker of Delaware; sister Ruthie Crow of Dardanelle; daughter-in-law, Corelia Wells of Dardanelle; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 17, 2006 at Cornwell Funeral Chapel, Dardanelle with Reverend Charles Lewis and Reverend Wylie Jones officiating. Internment was held in New. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Wells, Kenneth Wells, Jerry Wayne Wells, David Hallum, Tommy Mans, and Steven Smith.
