Martin, Freamon Joel

Freamon Joel Martin, age 86, of Dardanelle passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at his home. He was born May 17, 1926, to Joseph Sears and Della Bogard (Blake) Martin at Caraway. Freamon installed chain link fences in the area for more than 30 years. He took great pride in pointing out the many fences he had built, knowing they would outlast him. He enjoyed excellent health his entire life and even walked his usual "mile or two" the day before his death. He never met a stranger and tried to feed all of his neighbors and anyone who stopped by his house. He and Thelma enjoyed gardening and canning to provide for their family and "because it just tasted better." He attributed his good health to eating "real food" not "junk food." He was a "regular feature" Bluegrass singer at the Wednesday morning County Line Sale for more than 30 years. He had an excellent memory, especially for song lyrics.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Thelma Kathleen Craig Martin; their daughter, Bettye Martin; infant great-granddaughter, Kaylee Taylor; and infant great-grandson, Joshua Brancecum; his sisters, Ruby Hunter, Marie Lamb, Hazel Blake, Nora Langley, Virgie Ford and Lillie Kee; and brothers, Robert Martin, John Martin and Floyd Blake.

He was also survived by his best friend and bluegrass buddy, Doice Horn, of Russellville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Dardanelle First Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery near Dardanelle, by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
