Garret Jones Funeral is Impressive Service "Howdy, Friend! What can I do for you?" That was naturally the way Garrett Jones had of receiving people who went to see him during his busy life in Dardanelle. It was appropriately the text of his last rites. As many of his neighbors as his church would hold heard his pastor give beautiful words to their collective sentiment: He was their friend. The service conducted by Rev. William A. Stewart of the Methodist Church of Dardanelle at 4:00 p.m., Saturday was marked by the same kind of simplicity that was becoming to the man whose passing the Thursday before was so widely mourned. Rev. Stewart, deeply moved by his great personal and pastoral loss, sketched with constraint the monumental civic and religious record of the deceased, noting his service as a panel member of the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission, one of his many places vacated in State, County, Community and Church that will be tremendously difficult to fill. His substantial success in the fields of agriculture, industry, business and banking were by products of his innate friendliness rewarding sturdy talent and persevering dilgence, smiled upon by the Lord in whose fields he would always find time for labor. There could be no more eloquent tribute to the life of a man than was seen at Dardanelle when under a deep pall of mourning it respectfully laid away one of its most valuable citizens and thought of prepetuating his character, virtues and deeds as life goes on in the community he loved. Robert Garrett Jones was born at Dardanelle March 9,1899, the son of E. A. and Mrs. Ellen Fulton Jones, educated in the Dardanelle schools and in Arizona where the family lived for a time in his youth, and for more than thirty years experienced steady growth in the business, civic and spiritual enterprises to which he set himself without stint. He and Miss Evelyn Howell of a prominent Dardanelle family were married December 21, 1924 and their life partnership in mutual love and devotion combined harmoniously their generous capabilities. She remained faithfully at his side during his long illness and suffering, and survives him.
Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ellen Fulton Jones; two brothers, Ben of Detroit and Frank of Houston, Texas, and a sister, Mrs. R. E. Hiles, Arlington, VA. Burial was in Brearley cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Service.
