Robert M. Baskin, age 57, of Hackett, formerly of Ola, died Sunday, February 2, 1986 at Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. He was a native of Adona, a retired member of the U. S. Navy, and the son of the late John and Nora Baskin.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frankie Baskin; three sons, Ronald and Kenneth Baskin of Virginia, and Wayne Baskin of Rhode Island; a daughter, Marilyn Baskin of Virginia; two brothers, Don Baskin of Danville and Vernon Baskin of Ola; two sisters, Dottie Brewer of Ola and Helen Bowers of Oklahoma City, and five grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday, February 4, at Birta Cemetery by the Rev. John Holbrook. Burial will be by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. Thomas "Tommy" Wayne Baskin of McAlester, OK, formerly of Ola, AR (Yell County), went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2011. Born June 22, 1942, he was a member of the Myrtle Lodge #145 of Oklahoma City, OK where he achieved many goals and became Grandmaster.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen Bowers of Oklahoma City and Truman Baskin of Centerville, and a brother, Bobby Baskin of Plainview.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Baskin of Ola and a grandson, Kaleb Baskin also of Ola, along with many other friends and family.
Cremation was by Bishop Funeral Home of McAlester, OK. Memorial service and burial was in Birta Cemetery May 17th, 2011 with Pastor Norman Chenowith officiating. Vernon Baskin, age 86, of Ola died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born February 18, 1930 in Adona to Johnny McClellan and Nora Eden Barrett Baskin. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War where he drove an Ammo Truck. He was a loving father and husband.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Helen Baskin, McClellan Baskin, Mary Sue McAnally, Bill Baskin and Dottie Brewer; one grandson, Jimmy Edmond Baskin, Jr.; and a great-grandson, Jeffrey Wayne White.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bonnie Baskin; six sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Tina Baskin of Andrews, Texas, Tony and Vickie Baskin of Ola; Timothy Baskin of Centerville; Shawn and LaDona Baskin of Ola; Jeff and Nikki Baskin of Ola; and Chris Baskin of Ola; six daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Butch Harger of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Sharon and C.L. Davis of Russellville; Sheila and Tommy Porter of Ola; Sue and Rick Arnold of Lamar; Sharlotte and LeRoy Cole of Henderson, Tennessee; and Kim and Eddy Silcott of Rogers; a brother, Donald Baskin of Longview, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.
at the Shinn Funeral Service in Russellville. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Ola First Baptist Church with Bro. Charles Lewis and the Rev. William Hatfield officiating. Burial with military honors was held at the Birta Cemetery in Ola and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. Pallbearers were Adam Davis, Jason Davis, Ryan Cole, Cody Adams, Jonathan Baskin and Blake Baskin. Honorary pallbearers were be all of the remaining grandchildren. William D. "W. D." Baskin, Jr. age 79, of Casa, AR died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at the Dardanelle Nursing Center. He was born October 12, 1921 in Casa to the late William D. Sr. and Ora Mae Harkey Baskin. He was a graduate of Arkansas Tech and earned his masters degrees from UCA at Conway. He retired after 41 years as the superintendent of the Perry-Casa School District. He also coached basketball at Perry-Casa for 17 years, he was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Casa, a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Casa Masonic Lodge and Avid sports fan, having played and pitched for several professional baseball teams, including the Navy, Hagerstown Maryland, Gadsden Alabama and the Memphis Chicks baseball teams. He also played baseball at Arkansas Tech and with a semi-pro team at Danville.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Oleta English Baskin; two daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Gail and Robert "Bob" Baugh of Raleigh, NC and Patti Baskin of Russellville, AR; one sister, Elizabeth Louis Greinke of Casa, AR; two grandchildren, Courtney Allison Baugh of Raleigh, NC and David Matthew Baugh of Durham, NC.
Service was January 7, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Casa with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Interment was in the Casa Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville, AR. Pallbearers were Marvin Rainey, Jeremy Rainey, Luther Hance, Don Dodson, James Townsell and Alan Harris. Honorary were former students of the Perry-Casa School District. He was a native of Casa, a son of the late Thomas E. and Eliza Smith Baskin. He was a veteran of World War I, a mason and a member of the Casa Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ora M. Harkey Baskin; one son, William D Baskin, Jr.; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Greinke of Rochester, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Sandra and Patty Baskin; one nephew and three nieces.

Joseph Arnold Bass, aged 73, Dutch Creek, died at his home Monday October 11, 1954. He was born at Denning, Ark. December 29, 1880, but spent most of his life in Yell County.

He is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Lynn Batchelor; daughter, Lorinda Joyce Batchelor Hiemer; brother, Guy Edward Batchelor; and parents.

Kenneth Neil Batchelor age 72 of Russellville died at his home. He was born January 27, 1939 at Russellville to Stanley Guy Batchelor and Edna Mae Hutson Batchelor. He retired from Arkla Gas in 1999 after 32 years. Kenneth was a member of Pottsville Masonic Lodge #333 since 1978 and was past worshipful master.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Lynn Batchelor; his daughter, Lorinda Joyce Batchelor Hiemer; his brother, Guy Edward Batchelor and both his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Glenda Sue Lawrence Batchelor of Russellville, AR; his son Jack Neil Batchelor of Lonoke, AR; his daughters-in-law, Rebecca Baker of Russellville and Celeste Batchelor Bailey and husband Ray of Conway, AR; his grandchildren, Kyle Lee Hiemer of Russellville, Brittany Marie Hiemer Schluterman and husband Carl of Oklahoma, Autum Rae Batchelor and Jack Neil Batchelor of Russellville, Kenneth James Batchelor, Anthony Joseph Batchelor, Ryan Patrick Bailey and Sarah Elizabeth Bailey of Conway, and his great grandchildren, Kane Lynn Hiemer, Kaeden Lane Batchelor and Lorilei Marie Schluterman.

Mary Esther Batchelor age 96 of Dardanelle died Monday, July 15, 2002 at the Dardanelle Hospital. Mrs. Batchelor was born December 27, 1905 in Centerville, Arkansas to the late Walter Nelson and Mary Petillo Benefield. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Len Batchelor.

Stanley Guy Batchelor, age 81, of Route 1, Russellville died Sunday, October 7, 1984. He was a native of Yell County and a retired farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Edward Batchelor of Flint, Mich. and Kenneth Batchelor of Russellville; five daughters, Ouita June Wesselhoft and Barbara Ann Thrasher of Texarkana, Texas, Doris Jean Kimbrough and Sanda Sotomayor of Russellville, and Mary Joyce Pledger of Dardanelle; 24 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Andrew S. Bates, age 48, of Russellville, AR, formerly of New York City, New York, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. The son of Edward and Mildred Hojer Bates, he was born on February 26, 1962 in New York City. He married Stephanie Schickle Bates on June 7, 1986 in Honolulu, HI. He served proudly in the U. S. Navy for 9 years. He was a former Nuclear Reactor Operator with Entergy. He was a proud father and husband and couldnt wait to see his son's name in lights. Andrew enjoyed the peace and frustration of golf, and the agony of 41 years as a fan of the New York Jets. He was passionate about the eternal pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert W. Bates.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Bates of Russellville; son, Matthew Bates of Russellville; brother, Edward K. Bates & wife Becky of Baldswinsville, NY; mother, Mildred Shinault of Russellville; father, Edward C. Mrs. Bernice Elizabeth Bates, age 75, of Centerville died Wednesday, May 8, 1985, at Memorial Hospital in North Little Rock. She was a native of Pope County, a retired employee of the Dardanelle processing plant of Tasty bird Foods, daughter of the late Ad Shinn and Willie Gaydon Shinn, and was a member of Slaty Crossing Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Montie Bates; two daughters, Melba Standridge of North Little Rock and Patsy Pedigo of Little Rock; a sister, Adleigh Eubanks of Burney, Calif. and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at Humphrey Chapel by the Rev. Gary Huett. Burial will be in New Hope, Cemetery at Dardanelle by Humphrey Funeral Service. Jimmie Ray Bates, age 74, of Dardanelle died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1933 at Chickalah to the late Amos Brown and Ruby Ulena Higgins Bates. He was a member of the Chickalah Church of Christ and an avid bowler, involved in numerous bowling leagues throughout his life. He was a machinist in the aircraft industry. He loved water skiing, camping, and his hot tub.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lesley Manuel Bates and Wesley Leon Bates.
Survivors include his wife of seven years, Jane Bates of Dardanelle; sons, William Robert "Bill" Bates and Guy Keith Bates both of Santa Barbara, CA; daughters Lesley Avon Steams of Santa Barbara, CA, Mary Beth Balsa of Allburn, WA, Crystal Corinne Kerns of Huntington Beach, CA; five step children; Mike Sanders of Yreka, CA, Tom Sanders of Springdale, Carol Romine of Clearwater, FL, Judy Woodward of Merrita, CA, Kathy Dipple of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Presley and Mary Lee Bates of Prairieville, LA; sister, Linda Johnson of Covina, CA; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and three on the way; thirteen step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p. m. at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle with Gene Littleton officiating. Interment will be in Harkey's Valley Cemetery. Larry Neill Bates 79 of Plainview passed away April 5, 2014. He was born January 23, 1935 in Foss, Oklahoma to Fred Bates and Juanita Scott Bates. Mr. Bates is survived by his wife of 47 Years Mary Nell Smith Bates, of Plainview, children Diane and Bob Lindsey of Canyon, Texas, Lane McNelley of Pampa, Texas, Dewayne and Ginny Bates of Grovetown, Georgia, Sharon Burfield of Plainview and Tommy Via of Plainview.
Other survivors include 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Bates served his country in the United State Army, and was a native of Amarillo, Texas where he worked as a salesman before retiring. He and Mary made Plainview their home in 2001. He attended Jesus Name Pentecostal Church and was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He will be deeply missed.

Peggy Nan Gilmore Bates, age 55, of Little Rock, AR, died Monday, September 16, 1996. She was a member and former church secretary of Markham Street United Methodist Church. She was a retired educator of thirty-one years and principal with Pulaski County Special School District at Joe T. Robinson and Lawson Elementary Schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Bates and her mother, Maxine Gilmore.
She is survived by a son, James R. Bates, Jr. of Little Rock; her father, Cecil Gilmore of Danville, AR; two sisters, Wanda Tester of Clinton and Rosemary Williams of Springdale; and a brother-in-law, Donald Bates of Little Rock.

Mrs. Betty Alley Batson, aged 66, widow of the late Mr. Samuel S. Batson, died at the family home on North Second Street Sunday after an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Sam B. Wiggins, of Conway, assisted, by Rev. E. E. Stevenson, pastor of the local Methodist Church, were held Monday afternoon, the business houses of the city being closed during the funeral hour. Burial was in Brearley Cemetery. Mrs. Batson, who had been a resident of Dardanelle nearly all of her life, was loved and admired by all who knew her. Since girlhood she had been a member of the Methodist Church. She was also a member of Joe Wheeler Chapter, U. D. C. Mrs.
Batson is survived by three sons, Messrs. Calvin A., Reese and Lester; one daughter, Mrs. R. L. Harkey; two sisters, Mrs. Virgil Keathley, of Danville, and Mrs. Carl Moore, of Henryetta, Okla.; four brothers, Messrs. T. C. and J. R. Though not unexpected, announcement of the death of Mr. Calvin A. Batson, aged 50 years, which occurred at his home on North Second Street at 3:45 o'clock Sunday afternoon, June 25th, 1939, brought sadness and regret to every home in the city. Due to a heart ailment, Mr. Batson had not been in robust health for a year, or more, but only during the past ten days had his condition been regarded as critical.
Awaiting the arrival of his son, Calvin ("Sonny") Batson, Jr., who was enroute home from Venezuela by air at the time of his father's death, the funeral was not held until Tuesday evening at 5 o'clock. The service was conducted at the family home by Rev. Ethan Dodgen, pastor of the Methodist Church, of which deceased was a member, assisted by Rev. John E. Parse, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. A large concourse of sorrowing friends from all sections of the County was present, to pay a last tribute of respect and devotion, and so extensive was the wealth of floral tribute that an extra conveyance was required to carry it to the cemetery. Calvin Batson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Batson, was born in Dardanelle, where he spent his entire life. Modest and unassuming, he was yet a man of strong character, fair and generous in his dealings with his fellows, sympathetic and kindly and considerate, he won and held the warm friendship and respect of all with whom he came in contact. Associated with his brother, Reese Batson, in the firm of Batson Bros., highway contractors, he played no small part in the building of Arkansas' splendid system of highways. Lester Fred Batson, aged 42 years, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Batson and brother of Mayor Reese Batson, of this city, died suddenly at his room in a Little Rock hotel last Thursday night. He was an employee of the Government Ordnance Plant at Jacksonville where he held a responsible post as inspector.
The remains were brought to Dardanelle where the funeral service, conducted by Rev. E. W. Faulkner, Pastor of the local Methodist Church, of which deceased was a member, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reese Batson at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Pallbearers were: Joe D. Jault, Garrett Jones, Robert Campbell, George Phillips, Frank Phillips and Geo. F. Upton. Lester Batson, affectionately known to his friends as "Bushy", was born and reared in Dardanelle. Reese Ellis Batson, aged 71, former mayor of Dardanelle for 21 years died Tuesday at a Russellville hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Dardanelle. For 18 years he was a maintenance superintendent with the state Highway Department.

Mr. S. S. Batson, aged 72 years, died at his home on North Front Street at 7:15 a. m. Monday, August 20, 1934. News of the passing of this popular and respected citizen was a distinct shock to his friends throughout Yell County, for while he had not been in robust health for some time, it was only within the past two or three weeks that he had been confined to his home, and few knew that his condition was critical.
The funeral was held at the family home at 5 o'clock Tuesday evening, the beautiful and touching sermon being preached by Rev. Sam B. Wiggins, of Jonesboro, former pastor of deceased, assisted by Rev. Chas. F. Wilkins, Pastor of the local Baptist Church. The handsome casket bearing the earthly remains of one who for more than three-score years had lived and labored honorably and uprightly among us was borne from the home to the waiting funeral car by Messrs. Joe D. Gault, Aubrey Love, Dalton Stubbs, Robert Campbell, Garrett Jones and Robert Pierce. And as grandchildren of deceased, Misses Martha Jean Batson, Selma Elizabeth Harkey, Corinne Batson and Annette Batson, and Calvin Batson, Jr., and R. L. Harkey, Jr., followed with a wealth of flowers, all heads were bowed. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery. Samuel S. Batson was born October 26th, 1862, in Waverly, Tenn. He came to Dardanelle at the age of eight years, since which time he had continued to make this city his home. For more than 40 years he had been engaged in buying cotton, and perhaps no citizen of the County was so widely known among the business men and farmers. He was also extensively engaged in farming and his expert knowledge and close personal attention made him unusually successful in this avocation. Honest and upright in all of his dealings with his fellows, kindly and genial by nature, Mr. Batson won and held the friendship of all with whom he came in contact and his death has brought sorrow and regret to most of the homes of Yell County. Besides his widow, Mr.
Batson is survived by one daughter, Mrs. R. L. Harkey, and three sons, Messrs. Calvin, Reese and Lester Batson, all of this city; also by six grandchildren.
