Quinton Clyde Applegate, age 27 died in a Little Rock Hospital November 8, 1948 after a long illness.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pauline Applegate, of Fort Smith; his mother Mrs. Lue Suggs, near Belleville; Mrs. Ina smith, of Hackett; two brothers, Clon, of Merced, Calif., Hison, of St. Paul, Nebraska. Also a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Margaret Tolson Appleton, age 85, of Dardanelle, AR formerly of Hot Springs, AR died Tuesday, August 4, 1998 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ray Appleton; a son, Lynn Edward Appleton; her parents, Benjamin and Willie H. Tolson; three brothers, Ralph, Wilburn and Juson Tolson and a son-in-law, Jim Woodall.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Jo Ann Woodall of Dardanelle and Mary Ann and Donnie Golden of Hot Springs; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body was cremated. Mrs. Sadie O. Evans Arbuckle, age 86 of Houston, TX, formerly of Dardanelle, AR, widow of John D. Arbuckle, died Saturday, January 17, 1998 in Houston, TX. She was born February 2, 1911 in Dardanelle, AR to the late Dermitt and Lettie B. Johnson Evans. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the Dardanelle Church of Christ.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Lyn Hickey of Houston, TX; brother, Bill Evans of Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Velma Cash of Centerville, OH and Emma Jo Choate of Atlanta, GA; two granddaughters & son-in-law, Jody and David Nixon of Cincinnati, OH and Leatha Rosenbaum of Houston, TX; four great grandchildren, Kimberly, Carrie and Jonathan Nixon and Lettie Rosenbaum.

Four County War Dead Arrive In U. S. Four Yell County World War II dead are among the 5,442 American dead due to arrive in New York on April 1 and 2. Being returned from military cemeteries at Henry Chapel, Belgium, and Valor's and Epical, France are the bodies of Pfc. Opal M. Archer, son of Idus R. Archer of Danville, Pvt. Jeff Black, son of Mrs. Veto Black of Bluffton and Pvt. Earnest O. Rolland, son of Mrs. Loud M. Rollans, Rt. 2 Belleville. Being returned from a D-Day cemetery in Normandy is the body of Cpl. Pat H. Lassiter, Jr. husband of Edna L. Lassiter of Belleville. Funeral services for Pfc. Opal M. Archer, who was killed in action in World War II and Danville, Friday morning, will whose body is due to arrive will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00o clock at Fitch cemetery, near Casa. Military rites will be conducted by the Danville American Legion Post.

Services held for PFC. Opal M. Archer - Services were conducted for Pfc. Opal Archer Sunday afternoon, with Rev. T. H. Teal officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Danville American Legion Post, with burial in Fitch cemetery near Casa.

Wanda Lucille Edwards Archer, 68, of Pine Bluff died Sunday in Redfield, AR. She was born August 14, 1936 to the late Arthur G. & Annie Davis Edwards of Lonoke County. She had been employed as a desk clerk for the Townhouse Motel and had served as a private caregiver for many years. She was a member of the Family Church and was a member of the Laura & James Pierce Home Group. She enjoyed reading and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleon Archer whom she married on Dec. 27, 1956. She was also preceded in death by six siblings and a step-son, Larry Archer.
Survivors include four children, Diane Staton, Linda Post and Tommy Archer all of Pine Bluff, and Regina Cole of Redfield; a sister, Aliene Burgess of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Lyndel Edwards of Danville, AR; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Betty B. Arlen, age 74, of Durant, OR, formerly of Plainview, AR died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at MCSO. Durrant, OK. She was born January 28, 1928 in Plainview, AR to the late Fred and Ella Ryals Blackstock. She was of the Methodist Faith, a homemaker and was active in the County Extension Club of Russellville, AR.
She was preceded in death b her parents and her husband. William H. Arlen.

Acie Alexander Armstrong was born September 4, 1915 in Bluffton, Arkansas. He was the youngest son of John Julian Armstrong and Susan La Nora Barnes Armstrong, who preceded him in death. He had nine brothers and sisters, who also preceded him in death. He went to be with his Heavenly Father, March 15, 2006. Acie became a Christian during his 20's and joined the Baptist faith, which he continued in until his death. He was a charter member and deacon of Trinity Baptist Church. Currently he was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Acie, was also a lifetime member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #123, Bluffton, Arkansas. He married Willene Mobley in Bluffton, Arkansas on February 2, 1936. After 52 years of marriage, Willene preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1988. He married Winfred Bonnie Menzler January 24, 1990; she preceded him in death on March 19, 2002.
Acie was the son of farmers, and spent his early years migrating between Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. After such experience he excelled at the art of farming. He loved to tell his family of his adventures. One adventure he remembered fondly was when he and a nephew, both age 13, decided they had had enough of south Texas and hopped a freight train to Arkansas. They found a boxcar with a layer of clean hay, and when the train began to move, they were soon sound asleep. After a good night's rest they poked their heads out in the morning to see where they were, only to discover that they were about 1/4 mile from where they had started, sitting on a siding. Eventually they did turn up in Arkansas, 1,000 miles away, to the relief of family. A self taught man of many skills, he was an excellent carpenter, mechanic and smithy. He took pride in being a dependable, hard worker, whose word was his bond, and that he was earning man's wages at the age of 12. In 1953 he went to work for the Final County Highway Department as a laborer. He soon earned the nickname of Governor as he insisted that the job be done right and safely. He retired 25 years later as road foreman for District Three based out of Casa Grande.
A devoted father and grandfather, he took great delight in family gatherings and hunting and fishing with his sons. His courage, love, humor and tenacity will be missed by all.
Acie and Willene had five children: Harry Vasco Armstrong (preceded him in death August 1951), Shirley Cook (Hollis) of Tombstone, AZ, Charles Armstrong (Arlene) of Casa Grande, AZ, Bobby Armstrong (Marsha) of Glendale, AZ and Jerry Armstrong of Casa Grande, AZ. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Bryan Armstrong (Dee) of Lovington, IL, Yvette Armstrong of Casa Grande, AZ, Holly Cook Massie (Timothy) of Fort Irwin, CA, Sonia Cook Gasho (David) of Pearce, AZ, and Chad Armstrong of Casa Grande, AZ (US Marines, Iraq); 12 great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Ch|oe & Acie Armstrong; Sara, Jessica, Ross & Noah Massie; Emily, Daniel & James Gasho; step-grandchildren: Jennifer Odom & Myranda Butler. Special friends, caregiver: Del & Terrance Delgado and Michael Tracey.

John M. Armstrong passed away last Thursday, August 2, 1923 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Kendall, on Horsehead creek west of Clarksville.
Mr. Armstrong was born August 18, 1834 in Henry County, Tennessee. He was the son of Captain Lynas Armstrong who was a soldier in the Mexican war. [ See note below regarding his who his father was.] When John M. was a small boy the Armstrong family moved to that part of Arkansas which is now Logan County. When a young man he went to Texas and was in that state when he enlisted in the army of the Civil War. He was a member of Company K of the llth Texas Cavalry and was wounded slightly both at Marysville, Tennessee and Elk Horn, Arkansas. After receiving his discharge he came back to Arkansas and soon located at his present home now occupied by his son, Lee, on Horsehead creek. On September 21st, 1865 he was married to Mary Elizabeth Hamilton. They were the parents of three children, Felix Lee, Mary Belle and Lillie. The last named died in infancy.
In 1874 Mr. Armstrong was elected sheriff of Johnson County. This was the year in which the present court house building was completed and during the turmoil of reconstruction and the days of open saloons, when to be the sheriff of a county meant much exposure and often hazardous encounters with both desperadoes and drunks. Mr. Armstrong served two terms, deporting himself well in that capacity. He was a member of the old Spring Hill Cumberland Presbyterian church having joined soon after its re-organization after the civil war. Mr. Armstrong was a public spirit man. He was always honorable in his dealings with men and out spoken and straight forward in expressing his opinion. He never swerved from that which he knew to be right. The upbuilding of the school and all public enterprises received his full support.
Mrs. Armstrong passed away on April 11, 1903. And most of the intervening years between her death and his, he spent at his old home with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Armstrong, however recently he went to the home of his daughter where he was when his spirit took its flight into that land from whence none ever return.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Boudra and Dr. E. Hefner. Mr. Armstrong belonged to the John C. Hill Camp of Civil War Veterans and Hon. E. T. McConnell and James G. Coffee each gave an address eulogizing in brief the splendid record of Mr. Armstrong both as a man and as a soldier. One of the veterans who attended this burial said that even though the day was a week day yet the concourse of persons present was as great if not out-numbering any he had ever seen in a rural cemetery. His grave was a blooming mound of beauty, thus attesting the esteem, in which he was held in the country where he has spent the most of his long life. Lee Armstrong, age 78, retired farmer, died at his home in the Spring Hill community, Thursday afternoon, March 16, after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, at 3 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church at Spring Hill with Rev. Burney Shell, Clarksville, officiating. Interment under the direction of the Evans Funeral Home, Paris, was in the Kendall Cemetery.
Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was active in church affairs, is survived by wife, Mrs. Laura Armstrong, 3 nephews, Otto Kendall, Hartman, Dane and Loren both of Clarksville; and one niece, Mrs. Roy Peters, Spring Hill. Mrs. Muffrey Arene "Muffle" Armstrong, age 78, of Blue Ball, Scott County, Arkansas, died Tuesday, September 1, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville, AR. She was born January 1, 1920 in Blue Ball, Scott Co. AR to the late William Thomas "Tom" and Oshie Garner Wilkins. She was a homemaker and mother, Charter member of the Gravelly Chapter 580 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Dottie Wilkins, Isabell Hicks, Monette Morgan and Lois Millard.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Armstrong; a son, David Armstrong of Blue Ball, AR; a daughter, Clara Sue Chambers of Blue Ball, AR; two brothers, Bill Wilkins and Roy Wilkins both of Danville, AR; five sisters, Elzadie Miller, Elvie James, Veoria Morgan and Betty Sue Woodard all of Danville, and Geneva Self of Waldron, AR; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Thomas "Tom" Armstrong, age 90, of Blue Ball, AR, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at his son's home in Blue Ball. He was born March 2, 1915 in Bonham, Texas to the late Thomas and Rosa Lea Dixon Armstrong. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge #41, Gravelly Masonic Lodge #741, earning a 50 year pin and Gravelly Eastern Star #580.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Regina Armstrong of Blue Ball; daughter and son-in-law, Clara Sue and Ken Glover of Muldrow, OK; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Louis Arnett, 79, of Ola, died Monday in a Danville hospital. He was a retired carpenter and was a native of Russellville. He was a member of Ola Baptist Church.

Charles Lee Curley Arnold, 69, of Newport died on Sunday May 24, 2009, at Harris Hospital in Newport. Born October 15, 1939, in Max, AR, he was the son of Vernon and Velma Blevins Arnold. He worked 20 years for Mobley Construction and at Riceland Foods before retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Vernon Tutor Arnold.

Edna "Morleen" Arnold, age 74, a resident of Russellville, AR, formerly of Danville, AR and Dimmitt, TX, died Friday, July 21, 2000 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center at Russellville. She was born November 13, 1925 at Dimmitt, TX to Richard and Bertha Dowell Greathouse. She served as secretary at First Baptist Church at Danville for 30 years. She was a graduate of Waveland Baptist University in Plainview, TX and West Texas University in Canyon, TX. She helped with the Danville Meals on Wheels, the ATU Baptist Student Union, and also served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, and the American Legion. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville for 36 years and Second Baptist of Russellville for the past two years. She was the widow of the late Lilburn Arnold and was also preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Arnold of Plainview, TX and Lynda Housley of Russellville, AR; three grandchildren, Kay & Perry Roberson, Angela Matheson and Donald Hinman and Blake Matheson all of Russellville, AR; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Newsted and Morgan Frazier both of Russellville, AR; a brother, Earl Greathouse of Honolulu, HI; two sisters, Elouise Kirklen of Lewisville, TX and Fayrene Easley of Brady, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was July 25, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Danville officiated by Bro. Bobby Walker. Jean Sumrow Asbill, age 83 of Danville, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Stella Manor Nursing Home in Russellville. She was born February 10, 1927 in Gainesville, Texas to the late Claude and Estelle Sumrow. She moved to Celeste, Texas as an infant and was a star basketball player for the Celeste Blue Devils High School Team. She was retired from the Yell County Library in Danville. She was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church.

Lester Ray Ashley, 86, of OKC, passed away Dec. 22, 2007. He was born Dec. 16, 1921 in Atwood, OK and raised in Sasakwa, OK by his parents, Arlee and Margaret (Haines) Ashley. Lester proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked in the oil industry as an executive before his retirement. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Wyvonne Ashley; sons, James and David Ashley; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, R.L. Ashley, Jr.; sister, Nina Holland; sister-in-law, Wyvetta Ortega; and numerous nieces and nephews.
