Brewer, Opal

Opel Brewer, age 84, of Danville, AR died Monday, December 17, 1990 at the Yell County Hospital. He was a native of Havana, AR, son of the late Thadus and Mary Jane Farrington Brewer. He was a retired poultry farm worker, and a member of the Havana Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Bland Brewer of Danville; one sister, Inez Robinson of Danville and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 19th in the Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Danville with Bro. Luther Riddle officiating. Burial was in the Havana Cemetery at Havana, AR. Brewer, Reita M.

Reita M. Brewer, age 93, of Danville, AR went to be with her God on September 17, 2007 in Little Rock, AR. She was born October 10, 1913 in Sheridan, AR. Her parents were George Franklin and Anna Rebecca Hood McCool of Prattsville, AR. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, TN for many years. She was also pianist at First Baptist Church in Heber Springs, AR for many before she retired.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Morris Smith and Denton Brewer; a daughter Nedra (Brewer) Rose; two brothers W. Carl McCool and Bob McCool; two sisters Mildred Rayburn and Gladys Fish.

Survivors include two grandsons Mark and John Rose; a granddaughter Rebecca Bowdie; great grandsons Christopher, Joshua, and Kimmy Hanke; great granddaughters Lucia and Liliana Hanke, Amber and Alexis Rose; nephew Bobby B. McCool; niece Carol Ann Baker; special friend Clyde Apple, and numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Danville First Baptist Church with the Bro. Bobby Walker and Bro. Jamie Staley officiating. Burial was held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, September 25, at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens in Heber Springs, AR. Pallbearers were Gary Pickens, Stan Garner, Charles Davis, Rocky Foster, Waymon Sides, and Charles Palmer. Brewer, Tony Lee

Mr. Tony Lee Brewer, age 58, of Dardanelle, AR died Sunday, April 27, 1997. He was a retired farmer and former employee of Bruce Oakley. He attended the Assembly of God Church, was born May 4, 1938 in Havana, AR to the late Bud and Vera May Apple Brewer.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Brewer of Ola; a son, Jarred Brewer of Ola; three daughters, Brenda, Linda and Carla Brewer all of Ola; two brothers, Charles Brewer of Dardanelle and Johnny Raymond Brewer of Missouri; three sisters, Jewell M. Barber of Casa, Billie Joe Brewer and Betty Jean Brewer both of Dardanelle; three grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be today, April 30th at the Lower Spring Creek Cemetery by the Rev. True Fitch. Services under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle. Brewer, Vera Mae (Apple) (Mrs.)

Mrs. Vera Mae Brewer, age 54, of near Dardanelle, died at a Dardanelle hospital February 7. Mrs. Brewer was the wife of Bud Brewer. She was a native of Havana, a daughter of the late Melvin and Elva Mason Apple.

Other survivors are four sons, all of Dardanelle, Tony Brewer, Charles Ray Brewer, Jackie Lynn Brewer, and Johnny Raymone Brewer; three daughters, Mrs. Billie Jo Litsey, Mr. Jewel Ramey and Miss Betty Jean Brewer all of Dardanelle; two brothers, Jack Apple and Jonn R. Apple, both of Dardanelle; two sisters, Mrs. Atha Lott of Dardanelle and Mrs. Grace Nuchois of England; and seven grandchildren.

Wanda Mae Brewer, age 92, of Dardanelle died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at River Valley Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1921 at New Blaine to the late Oran B. and Emma Ann McReynolds Birkhead. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Brewer; brothers, Lowell Birkhead, Wayne Birkhead, Keith Birkhead and sister, Zola Pilgreen.

Survivors include three nephews, Dean Birkhead and wife Janis of Dardanelle, Larry Birkhead of Dallas, TX, Terry Pilgreen and wife Sherri of Wichita, KS; two nieces, Mavis Welsh and husband Don of Maumelle, Becky Birkhead of Springdale; five great nieces and nephews; eight great great nieces and nephews and seven great great great nieces and nephews. Wanda was a lifelong resident of the Dardanelle Community, with a temporary move to Wichita, Kansas when she worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company during World War II. She also was employed for many years at Love's Flower Shop in Dardanelle.

Brewster, Violet Frances (Simmons)

Violet Frances Brewster, of Hot Springs, passed from this life surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 3, 2013, after a brief illness at the age of 89. She was born on January 31, 1923, in Plainview, Arkansas, the daughter of H.G. Simmons and Malinda Raper Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Nina Gale Curtis Williams; three husbands, James Alvin Curtis, John A. Miller and Jewel H. Brewster; four brothers, William, Gene, R.L. and Kenneth Simmons; and one sister, Oral Raper. She and her family moved to Hot Springs from Plainview in 1934. She was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church. She loved watching basketball; it was her favorite pastime, especially the Lakers.

She is survived by her five children, Lynn Curtis Young (Joe David), Rex Curtis, Jonne Miller Doster (John), Jeannie Miller Huegel (Greg) and Janice Brewster; one son-in-law, Stanley H. Williams; her sister and best friend, Ina Burton; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, January 7, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, with Alan Coker and Dale Justus officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Sunday afternoon. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Connie Fay Bridges, age 90, of Dardanelle died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Russellville Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born January 9, 1927, at Clinton to the late Cecil Owen and Vinny Cossey Bridges.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Leona Bridges.

Hays Bridges age 89, a resident of Plainview, AR died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at his home. He was born October 4, 1910 at Plainview, AR to Matthew and Eva (Stahl) Bridges. He married Imogene Leach on May 3, 1941 at Plainview, AR. He was a farmer, member of the First United Methodist Church of Plainview, was a 32nd degree Mason, a 35 year committeeman with the Farm Services Agency at Danville and a member of the Ola Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters and two brothers.

She was born July 4, 1916 in Plainview, AR to Barbra Allen and Ola Breashears Leach. She was a homemaker and farmer and a member of Plainview United Methodist Church. For many years she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and Home Demonstration Club.

Matt Bridges, 83, of Plainview died Tuesday, November 21, in the Yell County Hospital at Danville. He was a native of New Albany, Miss., and was a retired farmer.

Smith, Arthur of California, and Lamar Bridges of Little Rock; two daughters, Mrs. Jewel Kacalek of California and Mrs. Helen Smith of Little Rock; a brother, Bob Bridges of Jacksonville, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bridges, William "Bill"

William "Bill" Bridges, 54, of Fort Smith died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at a Fort Smith hospital. He retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant serving with the 188th Fighter Wing. He was a graduate of Plainview-Rover High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He joined the Air Force and served as a communications technician in Japan during the Vietnam War, a recipient of the Mayor's Good Neighbor Award and a member of Southside Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hayes Bridges.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Bridges; a son, Chris Bridges of Fort Smith; a daughter, Heather Bridges of Fort Smith; his mother, Imogene Bridges of Little Rock; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Ann Bridges of Wayne, Pa.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Dale Zank of Marshall, Mo. and Judy and Charles Chastain of Little Rock; several nephews and nieces; and a great-niece.

The funeral was Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Ocker Memorial Chapel at Van Buren. Burial was in Gill Cemetery by Ocker Funeral Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxy Brigance.

William (Willie) B. Brigance, 94, of Waldron, Arkansas passed away on August 27, 2014 at the Waldron Nursing Center. He was born January 22, 1920 in Tate, Arkansas to the late William A. and Ollie (Taylor) Brigance.

He is survived by his wife Katie Brigance of Texarkana, Arkansas, four children; Lenora Caldwell of Havana, Arkansas, Jay Brigance and wife Loulla of Waldron, Arkansas, Gene Brig- ance and wife Laura of Booneville, Arkansas, Shaney Watts and husband Kenny of Waldron, daughter-in-law, Linda Brigance of Booneville, Arkansas, several step-children, 15 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren, several great- great grand children, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other family.

William is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Veva Brigance, one son, William Arnold Brigance, his parents, great-grandson Zack Caldwell and one son-in law, Dale Caldwell.

Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Miller Briggs was born May 18, 1922 to Ernest Lee and Betty Jane Tate Miller in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was raised and educated in Jonesboro before moving to Carlsbad as a young woman. Dorothy and Robert D. "R.D." Briggs were married on March 10, 1947 in Carlsbad. Dottie worked in the fabric department of J.C. Penney's, Tempo, Ray's Fabric and Jill's Fabric for many years prior to her retirement. Her favorite pastimes included cooking, sewing and caring for her grandchildren. She was also a long time member of First United Methodist Church. Dottie's love in life was always her family, she cherished the times with them as did all her family cherish her. She spent many hours listening to Christian music and enjoyed and shared many memories of her early years in Arkansas. Words alone could never express the kindness and love that Dottie gave from her heart to all who knew her. Dottie's beautiful smile and gentle heart will never be lost or forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her husband, daughters: Linda Briggs and Cheryl Parham, brothers: Claude Miller, Ray Miller and sister Dovie Crow.

Dorothy is survived by sons: Skipper and wife Susan Briggs and Mark and wife Diane Briggs, all of Carlsbad; daughter: Debbie Kimbley and husband Hayden of Loving, NM; son in law: Johnny Parham of El Paso, TX; sister in laws: Rosy Miller, Carlina Briggs and Evelyn Briggs; grandchildren: Gary Gidak and wife Angel, Rob Briggs and Tosha, Melissa Maas and husband Justin, Scott Briggs, Parker Kimbley, Gentry Hughes and husband Trent, Matt Briggs, Shea Briggs and Cody, Lisa Calder and husband Justin, Misti Frazier and Mandi Whitehead; great grandchildren: Jennifer Brendel, Kyla, Brayden and Rylon Hughes, Tayden Kimbley, Henry Alan Maas, Jaxon Rich, Zack Frazier, Ryan, Nick and Faith Whitehead, Bryce Temple and 4 great- great grandchildren. Briggs, J. B. - Stricken With Polio

J. B. Briggs Is Stricken With Polio - J. B. Briggs, Danville resident and former Yell County Circuit Clerk, was stricken with polio last week and is now a patient at St Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock. Briggs was taken to the hospital in Little Rock last Wednesday paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors at first believed that a rupture disk was causing the paralysis, but Saturday when his breathing became difficult and his temperature continued to rise, it was definitely established as polio. Briggs passed the crisis early Sunday morning after he had temporarily been placed in an iron lung. His fever broke and breathing became easier after that time. The exact extent of the paralysis will not be known for several days, but he is not paralyzed above the waist. Briggs, who is now an employee of the Arkansas Power & Light Co. was Yell County Chairman of the March of Dimes drive for polio for three years. James Budgar Briggs, age 82, of Briggsville died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1976 at his home. He was a retired farmer, and was a Mason and a member of the Briggsville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bertha Briggs; a son, 0. L. Briggs of Briggsville; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Baltz of North Little Rock; a brother, C. S. Briggs of Oregon; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A member of the Teamsters Union, James "Pat" P. Briggs, died in La Center on Monday, July 10, 2000. He was 67. He was a truck driver for VanWater and Rogers. Mr. Briggs was born April 6, 1933, in Longview and lived in Clark County for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, at home; two daughters, Denise Briggs of Portland and Kristy Bork of Amboy; one son, Jim of Amboy; one sister, Betty Oakes of McMinnville, Ore.; and three grandchildren. Mr. Briggs was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed hunting, camping, water skiing and four-wheel driving. He also liked watching television. There will be a service from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday that will include a potluck barbecue at 35011 N.E. 119th Ave., La Center.

Briggs, Laveda (Bailey)

Laveda B. Briggs, 73, of Fort Smith, Ark. died June 13, 2011. She was born December 31, 1937 in Magazine the daughter of Frank Mack and Mamie Irene (Plank) Bailey. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Magazine and loved serving others and her community. Laveda worked as a nurse's aide for ten years at Oak Manor Nursing Center, a member of the Magazine Garden Club, Blue Mountain EH Club and Magazine Community Improvement Club. Pleasures in her life were singing, traveling and fishing. She was dearly loved by her family and was a wonderful wife and mom. Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, R.D. Bailey and a sister, Francis Green.

Survivors are her husband of ten years, Lloyd Briggs of the home; five daughters, Debra Dority and husband Randy of Fort Smith, Nancy Briggs of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, Rhonda Nicholson of Eric, Texas, Barbara Stewart and Brenda Briggs both of Fort Smith; four sons, Rickie Allan Robinson of Fort Smith, Gary Lynn Robinson and wife Trish of Magazine, Lloyd Robert Briggs and Michael John Briggs both of Eric, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde Ed "Red" Bailey of Sugar Grove; three nephews, Bobby and Jimmy Green, Clarence Rodrigues; a niece, Carla McAllister; a special cousin, Dick Ellington.

Briggs, Levi L.

Levi L. Briggs of Carlsbad, New Mexico, formerly of Briggsville, died at his home in Carlsbad at 1:00 a. m. Saturday, June 17, 1950 at the age of 77 years. His wife, who was Belle Compton before their marriage in 1902, preceded him in death in 1921.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lee Gray of Phoenix, Arizona and Mrs. Bob Calvani of Carlsbad; six sons, R. D., Buford, Compton, Hence, Harry Lee and Pat, all of Carlsbad.

He was a member of one of the oldest pioneer families of Yell County and a former sheriff of this county.

He retired from the military and the U.S. Forest Service. He was a cattle rancher and served on the Yell County Equalization Board for several years. He was a pioneer in the poultry industry in Yell County. He was a member of the Briggsville United Methodist Church, VFW, and Mason. He was a Fouche Valley School board member for many years and a Farm Bureau board member.

He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta McBride Briggs; brother, J.B. Briggs; sister, Frankie Jean Baltz.

Survivors include his sons & daughters-in-law. Jay & Dianne Briggs of Pottsville; Keith & Peggy Briggs of Bryant; daughter, Rita Kay Briggs of Briggsville; grandchildren, Chris & Lora Briggs of Briggsville; Marsha & Carl Thomas of Russellville; Jason & Leah Briggs of Fort Smith; great-grandchildren Halle, and Skyler; and a host of family and friends.
