Loyd Wayne Bowen, age 72, of Booneville, AR passed away Sunday, February 20, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was a founding member of the gospel singing group "The Believers" and was the assistant manager at Town Country Supermarket in Booneville. He was also the chairman of the deacon board at Parkview Baptist Church in Booneville and was the music director at the church. He spent most of his life in both the grocery business and singing gospel music. He met his wife, Carolyn, as a member of the "Sunshine Trio" and they would form "The Believers together in 1968, recording eight albums and touring the country extensively. His first employment in the area was at Shipley Baking Company in Fort Smith and from there he opened Loyd's Food Mart in Booneville and he and his wife also built East Mart IGA, and were the owners-operators of Quality Discount Furniture before he returned to the grocery industry as an assistant manager at John's IGA in Booneville. He was a graduate of Danville High School.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, Home and Willa Mills) Bowen and a brother-in-law, A. C. Tygart.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bowen of Booneville, AR; one sister, Roberta Esterling of Booneville, AR; two nephews and nieces-in-law, Mike and Sammy Tygart and Phil and Carol Tygart; one niece and nephew-in-law, Karen and Reza Ghassimi; a sister-in-law, Wendy Tygart; his mother-in-law, Willie Wright; six great-nephews; chosen family, Janet and Harold Heslep and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday, February 24, at Parkview Baptist Church with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in; Booneville, AR. Pallbearers will be, Reza Ghassimi, Mike Tygart, Phil Tygart, Wesley Fish, Ben Springer, Mike Walker, Raymond Bull and Scott VanDevender. Honorary will be the deacons at Parkview Baptist Church and employees of John's IGA and Town Country Supermarket. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkview Baptist Church. Orval Dixon "Cottontop" Bowen, age 88, of Rover died early Thursday morning, March 4, 1982 in the Yell County Hospital at Danville. He was a native of Rover, son of the late W.D, (Will) and Amanda Umphers Bowen, He was a lifelong resident of Rover, a retired farmer and construction worker, a member of the Rover Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Willine Bowen Childres.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Inez Cathey Bowen of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Monroe Hunt of Plainview and Miss Laveana Bowen of Conway; one brother, Tucker Bowen of Hot Springs; two sisters, Miss Lottie Bowen and Mrs. Benard (Sue) James, both of Hot Springs; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, at the Rover Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Milles and Rev Jack McKennon officiating. Interment was In the Hunt Memorial Cemetery in Rover. Mrs. Susan Leta Bowen, age 80, died in a Little Rock hospital Monday, March 30, 1959. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and had lived most of her life in Yell County.

William D. Bowen, age 70, native of Rover, Yell County, died in Hot Springs Friday night. He was a native of Rover and served as representative of Yell County in the state assembly in 1932. He was a retired carpenter.

Bennett Eugene Bowerman, age 43, of Magazine, AR passed away June 11, 2005 near Magazine, AR. He loved hunting, fishing and working in the garden. He was a rock layer.

Charlie Dwight Bowerman, age 76, of Danville, died Sunday, March 22, 1987 at the Yell County Nursing Home in Ola. He was a retired Thermogas Co. employee and the son of the late Levi and Elizabeth Denton Bowerman.

Kerry Joe Bowers, age 44, of Jonesboro, AR died July 8, 2000 in Mtn. Home, AR in Lake Norfork. His body was recovered July 19th in 144 of water. He was born November 13, 1957 in Aurora, IL to Barbara Dobbs. He graduated in 1974 from Jonesboro High School and was owner and operator of University Signs Company in Jonesboro. He was a member of Greater Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce and was of the Pentecostal belief.
He is survived by, his long time loving companion, Marsha Medlock of Jonesboro, AR; his mother, Barbara Dobbs of Dardanelle, AR; two brothers, Ricky Lee Bowers and Paul Miller both of Jonesboro, AR; a sister, Ramona Dunnam of Russellville, AR; a niece, Angela Hunt of Plainview, AR; a nephew, Bubba Dunnam of Rover, AR and his beloved dogs.

Lorene Bowlan, age 83, of Shawnee, OK, died Thursday at a local nursing home. She was born September 13, 1915 near Ola, AR to Milton and Ollie Bishop Sullivan. She married Orvan Bowlan June 2, 1935 in Shawnee. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and lived in and around Shawnee most of her life.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Veld and Bob DeBolt of Tulsa, OK and Patricia McQuerry of Shawnee; sons and daughter-in-law, Royce Bowlan of Tulsa, OK and Steve and Kathy Bowlan of Shawnee; a sister, Ruby Wills on of Shawnee, OK; a daughter-in-law, Kitty Bowlan of Collinsville; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boye Bowman; two sisters, Bobbie Glen and Mary Bunting; one brother, Ricky Ben Hodges.

Burl Boyd, 85 of Danville, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016, at Chambers Memorial Hospital. He was born November 23, 1931, in Vilonia, Arkansas to the late Edgar Thomas and Erma (Baldwin) Boyd. Burl was a member of the Danville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He has also been a deacon of the Rye Hill Baptist Church in Fort Smith. He was a University of Arkansas graduate and a charter member of the Farm House Fraternity. Burl was an Army Veteran. He was instrumental in the development of the poultry industry in Yell County along with Senator Joe Ray and Leon Millsap. Burl was a former deputy for the Yell County Sheriff Department and later was an officer for the Danville City Police.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Melba Lemons Boyd.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Gwendolyn Boyd of Havana; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Randy Barrick of Danville, Julie and Jim Binam of Conway; brother, Larry Boyd of Dallas; sisters, Gail Jean Jones of West Monroe, Louisiana, Erma Jean Ebbs of Millington, Tennessee; grandchildren, Taylor and Thomas Franklin of Ft. Smith, Boyd Barrick of Russellville, Tyler Binam of Richmond, Virginia; and a great-grandson, John Thomas Franklin.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 2, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Earl Ladd Cemetery, Danville with Brother Clayton Sheets officiating. Emmaline "Emma" Boyd, 92, of Dardanelle, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 29, 2010. She was born May 31, 1917 to James F. and Lillie Bell Cossey of Russellville. Prior to moving to the Dardanelle Nursing Center, Mrs. Boyd spent many happy years in Russellville, Danville, London and Dover with her husband, the late Jesse Jewel Boyd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister, Ina Cossey Hill of Russellville.
She is survived by her three brothers, Buddy Cossey of Dardanelle, Lonnie Cossey of Moreland, Jesse Cossey of Dover; three children, Charlene Lile of Russellville, Jean Trimberger of Centerton, Jesse Leon Boyd of Dardanelle; five grandchildren; six step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Melba Dean Lemons Boyd, age 69, of Danville passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at her home. Mrs. Boyd was born December 22, 1932 in Gravelly, Yell County, Arkansas to the late James Ethredge and Moliccie Hunnicutt Lemons. She graduated from Fourche Valley High School and earned a degree in Home Economics at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She became the first director of the first Head Start Program in the United States, housed at the foot of Danville Mountain. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Arkansas Tech in Russellville and after teaching two short years at Danville Elementary School she returned to college earning a Master's Degree in Elementary Administration and served as principal in the Danville School District for 26 years when she retired due to her failing health. She was active in the Danville Parent Teacher Organization and the Arkansas Elementary Principal's Association. She was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

Ora Oralene Carr Boydston died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Chambers Memorial Hospital. She had resided in Dardanelle Rehab Nursing for the past three months, coming from her home in Van Buren, AR for the past 35 years. She was born in the Gum Springs Community, and attended a rural school there and school in Dardanelle. She retired from Wards Furniture Company after 35 years of service, she worked many years in the plant, and the last 10 years as a first aid nurse.
She was preceded in death by her husband T. J. Boydston; her son, Harold Gene Carter; her parents, Oliver Perry (Cap) Carr and Imogene Carr; two half-brothers, Andy Perry Carr and Ray Carr; one half-sister, Amanda Myers; her brothers, John Perry Carr, James (Pug) Carr; her sisters, Alyene Scott and Sarah Krehbiel.
Survivors include one brother, Charles (Chock) Carr and one sister, Wanda Louise Carr both reside in Danville.

Boyers, 79, Dead Of Heart Attack - Thomas Boyers III, judge of the 9th Circuit Court and member of a distinguished Sumner County family, died Saturday at his home in Gallatin from an apparent heart attack. His funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, elder and was presently serving as a trustee. Burial will be in Gallatin City Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Moffatt, pastor at First Presbyterian, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Thomas Garrott, Robert Alexander, Eugene Branham Jr., Tommy Perkins, Felix Fly, J.T. Warden, D.H. Jenkins and Alvin Ford. Donoho-Legge-Newby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Boyers was appointed circuit judge in 1965 by then-Gov. Frank Clement, succeeding Judge Will Puryear who was elevated to the Court of Civil Appeals. The 79-year-old jurist carried a full case load and only Friday had spent the day in Springfield on the bench. He covered Sumner, Robertson and Montgomery counties. Gov. Lamar Alexander has the option of appointing an interim judge to fill Boyers' position until the 1982 elections. Should he choose not to appoint, the chief justice of the state Supreme Court could designate someone to fill in. Boyers had indicated he'd not seek another term and his son, Thomas Boyers IV, Gallatin city attorney, had been mentioned as a candidate to run for the position.
The Boyers family has been in Sumner County for at least six generations. His great-grandfather, R.M. Boyers, was a businessman who constructed and occupied a building where Parks Realty now is located. According to a marker erected a decade ago, the now-bricked log building was put up in 1814. Boyers also donated the land for First Presbyterian Church to be built on. His grandfather, the first Thomas Boyers, became a newspaper editor and publisher. He was editor of the 10th Legion, a Gallatin weekly in the late 1840's was editor, then editor and publisher of the Daily Centre State American in Nashville for nearly a decade. He returned to Gallatin in the late 1850s and organized the Gallatin Examiner. He was paymaster in the provisional Army of Tennessee, later an officer in the Confederate Army.
Throughout the years, the Boyers have been active in the Democratic Party in the county and state. Thomas Boyers Sr. was a member of the Democratic state executive committee. Judge Boyers graduated from Vanderbilt Law School. While an undergraduate, he met his wife, Johnnie Mae Harkey, a coed from Arkansas. They were married 57 years. After graduation the couple moved to Texas and then to Arkansas where Boyers practiced law. He also was a member of the Legislature in Arkansas.
Survivors besides Mrs. Boyers and Thomas IV are another son, John Boyers, an officer with First and Peoples Bank in Gallatin; a daughter, Betty Ann Boyers; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Doyle Upchurch and Martin Boyle; an infant daughter; one son; two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Martha Boyte, age 77, formerly of Ola, passed away December 5, 1956 at the home of her daughter in Tulsa, Okla. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Ola and had spent most of her life in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
